The Burharm Raiders and Novelmore Knights sound like sports teams.
They missed an obvious one: The Zirndorf Packers.

Miradero is, apparently, the Town that 'Spirit' is set in. I'm curious about a Christmas market/ 'in winter' sets in a Southern American setting though..... ???

It must be a high altitude one.

No it's the Southern part of the USA. Think Texas or New Mexico.

Oh, then it IS the US.. not South America...

Well, it's got to be north of the equator if Christmas is in winter.

This site https://www.animationsource.org/spirit/en/custom/&nump=9662 says Oregon!

This site https://spirit-riding-free-fan.fandom.com/wiki/Miradero says California! It says it's set in a state, not a territory, which rules out New Mexico and Arizona (and as I'm in New Mexico, I'll say the architecture and greenery is wrong for here). It also says they are within riding distance of the Pacific Ocean, which axes Texas and indeed anything but California, Oregon, or Washington. California is the most logical because there are some Spanish names in the show and because there are clear blue skies and sunshine (this is pre-smog).

Other sites say Texas?

So I did a little looking... Spirit is based upon Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron

So then I looked up Cimarron, where the wild mustangs roam,

What is the Cimarron?
Cimarron Territory refers to the area that is now the Oklahoma Panhandle, a strip of land 34 miles wide and 169 miles long.

Where does the movie Spirit take place?
The homeland of the mustangs and Lakotas is based on Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, and the Teton mountain range; the cavalry outpost was also based on Monument Valley.

The term frontier town makes me think it’s the Oklahoma location...

Good sleuthing, leefert. Proud of you  :sherlock:

Anyway, sorry to change a fascinating topic. New instructions available (but not on the official set-pages), so I thought I'd post here. Arctic adventure sets, Spielboxes, a fire set and the Pizzeria. No spare parts listed for any.

The fire set shows the level Playmobil have sunk to.  A burning barrel on a raft in the sea and they send a fire boat and a helicopter with water bucket.  Why not just let the fire burn itself out?

Perhaps it's as hard to pin down as Springfield, of Simpsons fame?

It does make it easier to tailor the setting to the needs of the plot, if it's not nailed down.

I knew about the movie, but I have no idea if the movie and the tv show are meant to be set in the same locations (not having watched any of this). The movie features several somewhat specific locations (per Wikipedia): a Kiger Mustang herd, a Lakota village, the Transcontinental Railroad, and the Grand Canyon. So is he starting in Oregon, going east to the Dakotas, south to the Railroad, farther south to the Grand Canyon, then back to the Dakotas, finally returning to Oregon? As far as I can find, the tv show is much less committed to specific locations; I imagine this greatly reduces the need for historical research. Has anyone watched any of this?

The fire set shows the level Playmobil have sunk to.  A burning barrel on a raft in the sea and they send a fire boat and a helicopter with water bucket.  Why not just let the fire burn itself out?
Maybe it's a training exercise? Otherwise, I can just imagine the exposés about wasted tax dollars. Is the boat shooting projectile weapons at the burning barrel?

Perhaps it's as hard to pin down as Springfield, of Simpsons fame?

Springfield is based on Portland, Oregon. Some of the characters are even named after Portland streets (e.g. Lovejoy and Terwilliger, to name two I know well). The nuclear plant is a reference to the Hanford plant, up the Columbia a ways from Portland.

Post by: GrahamB on November 30, 2019, 09:29:16
Thanks for that, Macruran! I had no idea the mystery had been solved! Every time a map of the States appears on The Simpsons, showing the location of Springfield, someone walks in front of it. You clearly have a skilful team of researchers helping solve this mystery!
Title: Re: Novelties 2020: Jul-Sep
Post by: Oliver on November 30, 2019, 12:40:50
Sorry, I did mean the 'south of the USA' rather than the continent of South America, which was slapdash of me.

Springfield is deliberately not meant to be anywhere, and the geography is impossible. But Matt Groening is from Portland, so it was the partial inspiration.

Yeah I'm not the one who figured it out, it's widely known (around PDX) and there's lots more info out there, tours and so on, for example: https://www.travelportland.com/culture/simpsons-landmarks-portland/

Scooby Doo

70361: Adventure in the Enchanted Mansion
70362: Adventure in the Graveyard
70363: Dinner with Shaggy
70364: Adventure in the Far West
70365: Adventure in Egypt
70366: Adventure in the Witch's Caldron

Ok, so it was HAUNTED Mansion.. a rehash of the lame spirit house. Wallet sighs with relief.

Saw it in several places (yes, on THAT site :( ), can't track the original...

Example: link (on THAT site) (https://www.facebook.com/playmobilbeurs/photos/a.560120294153688/1484907625008279/)

Yeah, it was all over Instagram this morning. I like it, note the bats in the corners of the front porch. It has some similarities to the Spirit house but it's actually a new structure. Full interior stairs and a different front layout.

I actually want to get several of it (one to keep original) and then several to fix and paint up in the Queen Anne style that it’s made to represent for my Christmas village
Title: Re: Novelties 2020: Jul-Sep
Post by: Tiermann on December 05, 2019, 20:23:31
Yeah it actually looks better than the Spirit one. The Spirit house is kind of unrealistic with towers hanging off the sides of the upper story. this one looks properly solid. Would be great to see it done in holiday colors for Christmas some time.

The Scooby Doo house looks like it would be potentially nice, if you gave it a spray paint and tidy up, but it's hard to judge if it exists beyond a facade - I guess good for building street scenes but not so much for play/building interiors. The other problem is that it's a big set that includes the van, so it will probably be on the expensive side. Hopefully it'll be one that turns up on the second hand market a lot (I feel like I see the Ghostbusters stuff a lot, and that's how I'll pick up the firehouse when I get around to it).

So much useful stuff there. Another old medieval hat by the looks too, a red version of the green one worn by the bear dancing guy, unless it's the kid's hat, hard to tell. Nice to see the helmet with the three feathers on the top making a comeback, they've become hard to find.

The horses of the Scooby Doo Western stagecoach have the wrong saddles!!

They are waring this type:

Instead of this type:

Thanks for the pics!

Love the Heidi sets - I was planning on getting the other sleigh they made recently, but this one in brown is much better.

I like the Scooby Doo witch with the giant cauldron. Plus they have some nice pieces - the brown chairs (who'd have thought that the best way to reign in their addiction to crazy colours was TV tie ins?!), the bats (I think I prefer the sleeping ones in the graveyard to the flying ones) and a few other accessories. And the grave yard is generally kind of cool.

Not only that, but I think the Heidi sets have produced the first ever brown/wooden bed in Playmobil history? (maybe an expert can correct me...)

I think the Heidi snowball set has brown squirrels, which is new I think - though I didn't know brown squirrels existed, so maybe they're actually red.

I think it's been mentioned elsewhere, but is the rule that you can order spare parts from the licensed sets but not the figures? I definitely ordered parts from Spirit house, so I hope that's the case

I suspect it owes something to the "holdon" knight's helmet:

...and then had a visor stuck on it. That helmet is a norman helmet with the flared skirt meant to be the chainmail neck protector - which is how such helmets were commonly portrayed a few decades back.

True: those are available in all shops. Where it differs is what they do with requests for non-listed or out-of-stock parts (received via form or e-mail with attachment). In my experience Playmobil UK is very generous and sells you anything you ask for. Germany, by contrast, is very strict: the purchase of figures and figure components is here strictly verboten. >:(

Since when is that? Is it a recent policy?
I haven´t ordered figures through the belgian DS for a while, but in the past I (almost) always got what I ordered as long as they were still in stock. I´ve always assumed it worked exactly the same way in Germany...

If you have the ETN for a part (8 figure number), it is worth requesting it from DS, even if it is not shown on 'Find Spare Parts'. This includes figures (though some Licensed figures are not available this way, but Novelmore figures are). The U.K. System does seem to have very few parts it will not supply, at least for current and recent sets.

Another reason for asking for what you want, even if it's not listed, is because the DS staff do have lists of 'alternative' parts which they can supply (though they do look things up on PlaymoDB to find alternatives too!).

One final tip; don't order spare parts until after Christmas, they only offer a skeleton service at busy times.

I think it's part of the Heidi stuff, so they are meant to be Victorian  :D

I think so too. I have a couple other Heidi sets on my mental wish list for the Victorian klickies and parts.

Not only that, but I think the Heidi sets have produced the first ever brown/wooden bed in Playmobil history? (maybe an expert can correct me...)

I'm not sure about that shade of brown. There has been light brown and red-brown. They are the exception, rather than the rule though.

Since when is that? Is it a recent policy?

Like, forever? Falling at the mercy of German DS after enjoying UK services greatly added to my sense of a paradise lost, and the policy (nor the feeling  :-[) hasn't changed in the 4 ½ years since.

Since when is that? Is it a recent policy?

As far as Italy is concerned, I distinctly remember being able to order figures in the past (that's how I got a couple Carabinieri). I can't pinpoint when things changed, but for the last few years, Italian DS has been operating exactly like the German one: you don't stand a chance requesting klickies, whether they are licensed or not.

Hmm... then I should do a klickies-order with DS Benelux soon, to see whether things have changed or not here too.
I did some parts orders this year, but haven´t ordered any klickies with those.

By the names, that's what I'm assuming. The Adventkalender 70260 is in the German catalogue, and the regular set, 70261, in the Belgian one. The official pictures are identical - that's what I'm using in the DB.

The 1-2-3 catalogue is out too and has these new sets in it. No pictures yet, but you can peek in the catalogue at https://www.playmobil.de/content/katalogviewer123/KatalogViewer123.html (https://www.playmobil.de/content/katalogviewer123/KatalogViewer123.html).

Sets released in 2020/09/30 in theme 1-2-3 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=70399,70400,70401,70402,70403,70404,70405,70406,70407,70408,70409,70410;title=Sets%20released%20in%202020%2F09%2F30%20in%20theme%201-2-3)

And the answer....

By the names, that's what I'm assuming.

Leefert, you are clearly NOT the only one! I love your footnote -  "I'm glad that I'm not the only one." I would have to steal it if you weren't already using it!

(GrahamB - so true - confidence in numbers!)

The Zoo sets have spare parts in Belgium. No new numbers for new animals, but it does show which animals they're re-using. And the elephant ears are available from DS, both sizes, for anyone with broken-eared elephants.

Zoo Sets Released In 2020 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=70341,70343,70347,70348,70349,70354,70355,70356,70357,70358,70360,70324,70342,70344,70345,70346,70350,70351,70352,70353,70359;title=Zoo%20Sets%20Released%20In%202020)

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, if it has feel free to take it down. But I actually came across this link with that includes some missing photos (like the princess castle)

https://www.testsieger-vergleiche.de/baby-und-kinder/playmobil/playmobil-neuheiten-im-katalog-2020/ (https://www.testsieger-vergleiche.de/baby-und-kinder/playmobil/playmobil-neuheiten-im-katalog-2020/)

I'm actually kind of disappointed by the overall structure. It looks just like 5142, which I already own, but with an extra tower and built in extension. It's cool that Playmobil is scaling up again though. And it appears that the color schemes are getting more balance with the interior sets...for the most part. Still a LOT of pink.

Also that beach hotel is to die for!  Special thanks to amclicks for providing the princess castle's number so I could find this page.
