Glazz will have his trains at the Seattle Science Center the weekend of Jan 15 - 17 and suggests that if we want to meet on Saturday that we arrange to meet after 1:00 p.m. (He'll still be setting up his display until then.)
I have Saturday off so that would be a good day for me. I think that Tiermann also is wanting to meet on Saturday.
Who else wants to gather at the train show to see Glazz's trains and talk about Playmobil?

i'm in

Ok, so I plan on being there. I will drive Friday afternoon because I don't want to miss the fun Seattle work traffic. Music Experience Sci-Fi museum on Saturday morning (they open at 10) - they have a Battlestar Galactica exhibit on. Some sort of lunchy thing, and then the Science Center for the trains at 1. I believe that closes up at 5 PM? So maybe we can go have dinner or something. I have that gluten issue so I am researching but it looks like there are a couple of food-drink pub type places fairly close to there that would be fine for me, or there's a vegetarian Chinese place. Then on Sunday at 10 I am going to the Seattle Art Museum for a few hours, I have a timed ticket for the Picasso show for 10:40. After that probably lunch then either the Asian Art museum in the afternoon or back to the Science center trains or both or neither. I plan on driving home Sunday evening. I can go late though as I will have the morning off Monday.

Hi
As you well know this being some of the rare west coast mini-conventions we are jealous down south. :hissyfit:

so are we just visiting and discussing trains? or other PM stuff too? Should we bring any show-and-tell items ourselves?

Oh, definitely bring stuff! Especially your avatar. I think that Glazz will let our avatars go for a ride on the train. That will be a fun photo.
I don't know if we will have the space to try to bring things to trade since we'll be in a public place. Any ideas about that?
Dinner sounds like a good idea. Dragons are always hungry. ;D
-
I'm staying at the Travelodge by the Space Needle - so only a couple of blocks away from the event. I could host a little tradefest there if needed.
-
Sounds great you guys, the show will go on as planned.
Show hours are 10-6, Saturday, Sunday and Monday as well. (it will be just as busy all 3 days)
We will see you there.
-
Tim... it sounds like you are going to have a VERY busy few days in Seattle. It's very tempting to try to be there early enough to visit the Science Fiction Museum, too, but I know that I'd be exhausted by the end of the day. I'm going to be realistic and just get there for the train show and dinner afterward. I'm going to be on ferry, foot, and monorail so I don't think I'm going to carry much with me. Maybe just MamaDragon and the little bell for BlackPearl.
Oh, this is going to be fun! :)
-
Yep, it will be busy - hopefully it wont be a skating rink as well with the weather being like it has been lately.
A square dance friend of mine who lives in Seattle will be meeting me for the Sci-Fi museum in the morning and may hang on with me to the show.
-
I probably wont bring much if any trade stuff but if there is anything to type of thing you are looking for let me know and I can check for it on my trade shelf.
-
You must take pics to post here of your get-together! Is this the first time you guys have ever met in person?
-
I've been to one of these train shows in the past, Ronastoo was there as well. Rona and I have met a number of times now. The last time was in October in Eugene with Ronastoo, Martin Milner, and myself. Unfortunately Martin wont be able to make it to this event.
This will be the first time BlackPearl will be joining us at an event.
The only other online community collector I have met was MsOmega who used to post on Playmoboard a while back.

Anyone planning on also viewing the Harry Potter Exhibit? My daughter is a big fan and really wants to go.
The train show comes with general admission tickets (about 15dollars), but to view the Harry Potter is an additional ten or so (25dollars) but includes general admission (and the train show) as well. You can also view the Harry Potter exhibit seperately for about 20dollars (with no general admission for the regular exhibits). I thought about going maybe on a seperate day, but was wondering if anyone else was planning on going the same day as the trains or just focus only on the trains? Of course I wanna take my kids to see the rest of the science center exhibits as well. We'll probably get there earlier. Btw, my entourage includes a 14yr old teenage daughter, a preschool age son, and a pre-preschool aged daughter (by proxy). So I'll have my hands full, FYI.
I'll be bringing my Black Pearl and my avatar (Jack Sparrow) in the trunk of my car if anyone's interested in looking at it.
Anyone need anything Playmobil? I do have access to some good local shops here in Tacoma that have a lot of original-priced retired items still on shelves, including 5301 Mansion for $139, the wedding chapel $60 (I think), and lots of bagged spares/add-ons for various themes and sets. I have a pretty good mental inventory of what these stores carry so ask and I can usually tell if they have it or not ad can bring some up for anyone needing it.
-
We're getting close to train day! The weather is going to be rainy but that's much nicer than snowy or icy. I might even wear real shoes instead of sandals. (I bet most folks didn't realize that dragons even wore anything on their feet.)
Atto, thanks for the offer to pick up Playmo for us. I don't think I need anything right now.
Tim, have a safe journey and enjoy the Seattle traffic.
I'll see you on Saturday!

Please post some pics!!!!

Be sure to stick your avatar in your pocket for the train show, we will do a group avatar photo on the layout

We all met and had a great time. I will post more pictures tomorrow after I've had a chance to go through them. There should be some from the other participants as well.

Here is a short clip of part of Glazz's display with a cameo of our avatars. You can hear my wee one tugging at my shirttails as I shoot the video. Fun-filled day! Was really nice meeting everyone!

In that second video, did anyone else hear someone asking if it was lego? It was hard to make out, but that's what it sounded like.

Actually, throughout the show I heard several people refer to the Playmobil stuff as "oh, look, it's little lego people and a lego train!"
I always hear that, even when I'm in the store around playmobil, and when I sail my ships in public. People always mix it up for Lego. I don't bother correcting anyone.
-
Some people. I just don't see how they can get it mixed up. But then I forget most adults are not insanely obsessed over little plastic people!

I have one! I have one!
Here's a photo of Tim intently taking photos to share with us.

It was a great time.
I enjoyed meeting Atto and his kids. Tim and I got to "train-sit" the display while Quin and his wife went to lunch. I answered questions about Playmobil and made stuff up about Quin and his trains.
I hope we have a chance to do this again!
-
It seems you had a really great time guys!! Thanks for the pics!!! :)
-
oooh! It looks you all had a great time! Thanks for the pics!
BTW I identify everyone by their avatars, but who is the young couple in the picture ... of the real people? :P
-
Thanks for the pics :-) Great to see you all!
I will take a good look at the video's later!
-
I've put a caption under the people photo with our screen names. The young couple are Glazz and his wife who own the train layout.
-
Those are great videos, I'm glad you did them, I totally forgot to do any video. I will be posting some photos later today.

That's it for my pictures for this thread. Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed being there. Unlikely, but I suppose it's possible.

AMAZING!!!! all that is Gazz's???? It's a great layout! I wish I could have gone!!
Thanx for sharing Tim!!!!
-
Great pictures. The thing I like about the layout is the detail in the scenes around the table. You can stare at something for a few minutes, then you see the humor or unusal piece. Like the squirrels in the pine tree. Or notice that the school house is a custom - 3 floors not 2.
See the attached picture where the first floor had the corner piece on the left cut off.
-
It's an incredibly detailed layout! Really fantastic! :wow: :wow: :wow:
-
Wow! what a layout, this is brilliant, well done to Glazz
and thanks for sharing the photos Tim :thanks:

It is such an amazing setup and such a good excuse to be able to buy stuff from every modern theme :-) And there was some Steck as well!
Great pictures as well Tim, thanks a lot!
-
Glad you all had a good time, and thanks for the pictures of people - it's nice to be able to put faces to names,
Thanks, too, Tim, for the layout photos.

We had a great time this weekend at the show with a record turnout for the whole weekend. Its nice to see other pictures taken than by myself that provide different angles and details that I never took.
It was also nice hanging with some people here from the board that know the difference between Playmobil and Lego! Although Lou couldn't make it on Saturday he did mange to pay a visit with us on Sunday.
It was funny, a mother and her younger daughter had returned again on Monday and had asked me where the dragon and the dinosaur where moved to......it was cute.......but I had to let them know that they where just visiting.
Unfortunately we did loose a couple of smaller pieces to a few sticky fingers: the cow skull of which is the second time that it has been taken and the only thing that has ever been take, and a Victorian lady along with a hat and scarf near Coops street market. Not the end of the world considering how many thousands of people attended.
-
i was wondering about your losses. Amazing that you had only those couple casualties. I would have guessed it would have been more.
Awesome setup Glazz, and nice to meet you and your wife :) I have more pics too, I just haven't uploaded yet.
