7450 Float Plane
This is a really great little airplane. She's as much at home in the Pacific Northwest as she is in the Caribbean!
Float planes can land on lakes, inlets, bays or just about any place where there's some fairly calm water.
This plane was originally released as set 3866 back in 1996!
(http://www.gardenwargamer.com/images/3866 Float Plane.jpg)
I also have the 3866 version. And 7450 is a faithful copy and I am thrilled that Playmobil re-released it!
Before we begin this "Review", I just had to take her up for a "flight" ...
The new 7450 Float Plane soars high over the Virgin Islands!

 HI Richard. Amazing Pic!!!! :)9

Excellent background choice, Richard :)9! While you're up in the sky on your test flight, why don't you land in my swimming pool for a cup of coffee? BTW, this was always one of my favorites that retired :(!

Hi Richard.

Thank you for your encouraging comments, El Jefe, Bill and Jimbo!

First let's talk price ... the 7450 isn't inexpensive (especially for a "classic").
The little float plane is $20.99 from Playmobil USA! I bought two of them, so that put a pretty good size dent in my annual Playmobil budget!

Assembly is rather straightforward.
The float plane comes with separate floats and a landing gear struts assembly piece. The top of the landing gear simply snaps onto the fuselage. However, the bottom of the landing gear assembly attaches to the floats with SystemX connectors which are molded as part of the landing gear. (I can't remember if the original 3866 float plane had "normal" SystemX connectors or if they were also molded into the landing gear. My 3866 is at our Canada house, so I can't check.)
The wings snap onto the upper part of the fuselage and are easily removable. The prop is held in place with a snap fitted nose cone.
The plane holds a pilot and a passenger. There is also a very small cargo space. The fuel tank has a cover that flips up for "refueling".

All in all this is a very nice model ... although a bit pricey.
Regardless, Geobra's prop planes are very nicely made and make a splendid addition to any Playmobil collection!
Hope everyone enjoyed the review.
Watch for this plane in a possible Island adventure from the Caribbean.
It will probably be joined by a couple of 5859 flying boats ...

Sort of reminds me of someone I know and his Playmobil fire engines ... ;D
Thanks again and all the best old friend,
Richard

Thanks for the compliments and thanks for the info on the molded connectors, Flatcat!
(I just couldn't remember and I was about to go to Heather's DB to see if I could find out.)
All the best,
Richard
Edit: Fixed typo.

That is a very cool plane! :yup:
Though not my area of collecting,
I am sure my sister would love one...
Maybe you have just given me an idea for her christmas present. 0)

My pleasure, Richard. I must say that I find the prop planes very attractive, especially the little biplane.
Just noticed this on eBay but I don't think it is what it says and even the seller seems unsure:

I saw that too Playmofire, definatly not Playmo so guessing it is from some kids TV show or something.
The Playmobil prop planes are awesome :inlove:

Great review of a great seaplane Richard!
This isn't really my theme either, but I got one of the original 3866 planes (second hand off eBay) because it's such a classic design, and so useful for those trips into the jungles of the Amazon basin.

Great review of a great seaplane Richard!
Thank you, Martin!

I hope that you're not going to put me in different clothes because it's cold where you are.

it is indeed a beautiful sea-plane richard. :)
i have always loved sea-planes.
"some" people don't usually like tham and say they are poor flyers and poor swimmers. ::)
never-the-less being capable of doing both things is one of the things i love about them - specially this "little" ones. :yup:

We're very fortunate, Cachalote. On both VIs (Vancouver Island (http://www.harbour-air.com/fleet.php) and Virgin Islands (http://www.seaborneairlines.com/index.php)) we have float planes as transportation!
And, I was also very fortunate to fly a flying boat (http://www.uscg.mil/history/WEBAIRCRAFT/hu16photogallery.asp) during my US Coast Guard days!
Like you, I love sea planes!
All the best,
Richard

A great review Richard and superb photos. (my 'praise' emoticon has disappeared)
I was always envious of a friend of mine who lives in Prince Rupert who used to talk about getting a float plane when she went shopping!

Don't worry about the emoticons, Elaine!
The words are more than enough. Thank you!
