Title: 5246 western goldmine review
Post by: Elric on October 06, 2012, 14:48:13
I have had this set for about a month and thought i would share. There are some nice parts in here. Normal price is 75 dollars unless you catch it on sale.

The back.

Here is the base. The base goes over the rocks. Sorry i got excited and opened everythjng before i took pics.

Both big rocks feed from underneath the base. The big rock in the middle has a hollowed out spot. This could be used in other themes like caveman and indian dio.

Kinda dark but here is the top. There is a beam that is built across the gap. There is a piece on top you move and the beam crashes down. This is were all the loose rocks go.

Here are the accessories.

I love the donkey and the carry system. The rubber straps keep them snug but probably wont pass the test of time.

Here is a dynamite box that will explode.

These two parts right here are my fav. I have not seen a silver six shooter. Not sure if has been made before. I love the lantern on the crate. It does not come off because the crate is the battery base. It lights up!

Here are the klickies. The prisoner looks a whole lot better than the prisoner from the suprise figs. The other two are fine klickies too.

It does look like a great set. I have avoided it due to the price but know we will be getting it. I like how they made the cart track lye flat on the floor. On the old mine you could not add track well as it would want to be off the ground due to the base height. I do hope they fit together

I agree that this prisoner looks better and  I see he is not that bad off in your mine. He is watching the other feller do the work  :P

I did not know about the silver gun also and the boys will covet it as it will also be the first one we have.

Thanks for the pictures and review

Thanks for the review, Elric.

That lantern and box will look good on a railway station.

Could we have some photos of the truck, please and the distance between the tracks?

Excellent review, Elric!

Its a real nice looking set. The decking boards on the porch could have done with being brown, but I suppose it's cheaper to make the base all the same colour.

I love the figures and accessories. Is that blood all over that guy??

I love the lantern on the box, and I agree with you Gordon, it would look excellent on your railway setup

Its a shame that there are no straight tracks to be able to extend. Do you Elric, or anyone else, have the old goldmine to check the tracks to see whether they are compatible? as there was a straight piece included in the old set if I remember correctly. (the trucks looks the same, so it might be possible)

Damo :)

I thought that at my first glance too. I suppose it's only mud though.

Its mud to me

The track looks the same and has the same connector. I doubt Geobra would spend the money to make a new mining cart so hopefully it is the same. I want to use these new humpted tracks for customs . Next we need a switch so we can make elaborate mines. The old mine is still available so I will have to stock up on straights.

Thanks Elric for all the great pictures and info

Thanks for the excellent review!
I'm not sure yet weither or not to get this set, it is quite pricey and not my theme but it has several interesting parts... :-\

Is the klicky's blue cap in the same darkblue as the caps from the previous generation Yankee-soldiers?

The blue cap is the same color as the old caps but no printing. Just plain bkue.

why just a third barrel? could just as well lay the dynamite crate on top of it with two clickies sitting on it with their mining equipment.  >:D

Just kidding.  Although it does make me curious about how much you could stack on top of the donkey or horse this way.
Great review, it looks like a very nice set. Was there only one gun? they used to come in sets of five.

 work that animal  :woohoo: :whip:

It just looks like it was intended to have a third. If you look at the saddle you can see it is concave in the middle right were a barrel would lye . Mind you yes a full barrel of this size is approx 60 gallons. If they were filled with water @ 8 lbs per gallon you have approx 500lbs each, times 3 is 1500 pounds. If you use the traditional body weight ratio of 30 to 40% that donkey would have to weight in at 5000 lbs. Even if the barrels were empty they would be close to 300lbs making the donkeys weight needing to be around 1000lbs. of course back then they could care less if the beast of burden would be subject to back problems so I am sure they just used and abused them.  :'(

I too wish the guns came as they used to, in a spruce of five. The way guns fall out of the holster so easily its nice to have a well stocked gun shop.

I think you could fit two more on top. I put two if the bigger green barrels on top but its unstable.

I think you mean KETPA (Klickies for the Ethical Treatment of Plastic Animals)

I passed on this set at the TRU 25% off sale because of the price. There are a few things in it I really like, but not enough to justify such a high price for me. It is growing on me though and I may give in eventually. There are other sets I want more first though including the Fort. I don't have any fort yet really just s few wall pieces
