Title: Pynedor's Playmobil
Post by: Pynedor on March 03, 2012, 18:28:21
Hello!

I've decided to start a single, organised thread to tell of all the new things that I get and create! :) I hope that you enjoy it.

To start, today I got the last four figures of Series 1 that I wanted.

Although I don't like the wings very much, I do like the dragon knight's black crossbow, his cool shield design, the dark metal new-style sword, and, most of all, the new legs that he has! I hope that these legs make it on to more figures (than just this one, the eagle knights, and the red knight from the new carrying case), and I would like to see them in white too. His painted-on face is a bit unfortunate though...

The witch is much cooler than I thought, but it is a bit strange that her head is a different colour than her hands and feet. The sandals are cool though, and so is her hat!

The bandit-type figure is cool too, particularly his spurs! I do wish that he and the others came with some sort of cuffs though.

The girl highway bandit is definitely one of most unique of the group, and I like the printing on her, but I will probably give her a cape too. And her gun will promptly be switched out for a sword or knife of some sort. The markings on her face are an interesting touch too, and that adds to the uniqueness for sure!

Those look really good! BTW, has anyone posted a picture close up of each complete series here yet, because the pictures of the actual figures are much more tempting!

Today, my first DS order arrived!

I originally wanted many more Teutonic Knights, but when I placed my order, they only had one available, despite telling me that they had seven! :( I did get 10 pennants for my castle (soon to be properly claimed by the knights) though, and I'm really happy about that. Also, I got 4 walls so that I can create some jousting lists! Not many cuffs were in stock either, but I got some of those and plenty of swords and daggers! I also got some capes with pegs (to create some Teutonic archers, and because the full length white cloaks were also out of stock). Oh, and the helms of course!

It all came in a single bag, which was in an envelope.

He was eager to be the first out of the bag, and apparently started equipping himself in the bag. :hmm: I reckon he might be my first custom who gets taken apart... if I don't break him.

Here's the entire order. :)

Looks good. It usually takes multiple orders to get everything you want for a project.

Where's that white cape from?
It's from the Dragon Land take-along set, similar to the barbarian one we've been talking about in the other thread. It's set 4775. I thought that I had that set until I realised that I had no white capes with a peg for equipment... So I bought some, though I really wanted the full length white ones (which were out of stock)!

Yes, they are! I've already turned one of my Teutonic Knights into an archer with one. Unfortunately, I have one knight without a shield now since they were out of stock too, despite Playmobil also telling me that they had them! :( I also wanted to place some extra shields around the castle when I rechristen it in their name in a few days... Oh well.

Title: Re: Pynedor's Playmobil Purchases
Post by: tahra on March 25, 2012, 15:41:22
Too many kings in general... They come with castles, smaller sets, specials.. those have 3 of them at once...
Title: Re: Pynedor's Playmobil Purchases
Post by: Pynedor on March 25, 2012, 15:46:27
True, there are many kings. I got the set to use them more as non-warrior figures though, since most Medieval sets are full of those, and these three aren't that regal looking, especially considering what time they are supposed to be from. I do have probably five or so kings now, but most of them can easily be turned into unkingly characters with the taking of their crowns!

Take the white-robed king and give him (for instance) this hat http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-64-9702 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-64-9702) instead of a crown and you have a rich merchant or nobleman.

You have a good set to build from, Pynedor.

That is a good idea. I really want to put his crown to good use, since it looks a lot more Medieval than most of the other crowns. It's a really cool design.

Today I managed to find another Arab warrior Special, set 4691. ;)

I also - finally - got the Series 2 knight. He is much cooler than I originally thought. His shield looks nice with the wyrm (though the yellow arrows are sort of strange), and the face marking is a nice one (though mine doesn't have very good print quality :(). Also, has anyone else noticed that his armour is lighter than the armour of other figures? Someone mentioned that they might be using a different material to make them now, but this is the first time I've seen this. My knight's metal pieces - his helm, shield, arm pieces, gorget, belt, and sword - are completely of a lighter colour. It almost looks metallic really, and I actually like it. I still think that he would look better with armoured hands and different legs though.

I would have gotten some of the female figures too, but after a rather vexing ten minutes or so feeling the bags without ever finding the ones I wanted, I decided to leave and try again later.

Today I found yet another 5825 crusader pack... somehow. And I also got three crusader 4670 specials on sale! :)

I also tried (and failed) to use the so-called "Spanish method" to behead one of my crusaders. I twisted the band very tightly, yet the head really did not want to come off. The smashing method seems too violent and so I won't try that (I broke an unfortunate test figure's arm trying it earlier :hmm:). For now, I really want to just be able to take apart one so that I can customise a "leader" of sorts.

I use the "Hans on" method to customize my klickies and it works well.  With fat klickies, however, this method is somewhat difficult and I have broken a couple legs this way, so I use a pliers on the back of the head and it works well.  If you don't use masking tape, this method leaves a mark at the back of the head, but because the hair covers it, I don't see it as an issue.  Customizing klickies is one of my favorite things to do with Playmobil, as I can make each one exactly as I want it. :)

Sorry I was not more clear Justindo  :-[ Seeing all your custom work I kind of figured you had it figured out how best to take a figure apart.  8}  the English language

I think there is a great opportunity for some one to make a special set of pliers that are rubber coated, fit into the neck area of a Klicky and once pressure is applied it pops the heads off. No invention needed, just engenering. I think they would not only sell like hotcakes on auctions but would get Geobras attention. Better get the pattents all in order first though  ::)

I lifted the arms when I tried too... without success. The little tab on one of the arms of the sacrificial figure broke off. :(

That was a while ago, and I've not tried that method again. I went for the "Spanish method" with a Teutonic knight, but its head really would not come off. I didn't want to damage it, so I left it at that. I just want one apart though so I can use the grey inner piece from a Series figure to easily customise with the Teutonic knight tabard.

Great looking army.  Get over to the Kingdom Map and claim some land.

Thanks! I've looked at the map, and I was wondering whether it is possible to add more land to it. Like if I wanted a tiny island - do you reckon that would be okay? I only need a small place since I don't have a giant kingdom, and I'd like a little secluded island kingdom. Is there a rule against that?

His leg armour was given to the Teutonic knight standing next to him. I needed white tabard bottoms, and that set is the only one that includes them. I like the new platelegs, but they don't come with white tabard bottoms. The other knight standing by him has those, but they are black.

I finally got some more of the Fi?ures, some from series 2. I really like these two figures, and I think the flower headdress is particularly cool. I also got my first extra part - an extra grey Fi?ures skeleton! This is great because they are awesome to use for customs (if you use the Fi?ures heads too). :)

I also made my first painted custom, just a small one though. I painted this helm as a sort of experiment for my plans to make some figures with my own heraldry. I think it turned out alright, but I think I'll try to make any more that I do better than this one.

I got these three Fi?ures from series 3:

I was very surprised with the knight. I didn't think the samurai armour would look very good in silver on a knight, but it turned out to make quite a nice fantasy figure. And I think the dwarf is one of the best figures released in a while! He is really cool. The only things that I don't like about him are his thick wrists and the loose vambraces that go on them. :-\

I also used the extra skeleton that I had to upgrade my female knight. :)

That's really the reason why I tried this out. It'd be awesome to be able to have a chainmail coif bottom or other neck armour with a cape, but that isn't possible with the current styles of capes. :-\

Sure. It's quite simple in design really. I just cut a small piece of cape-shaped cloth and then cut a hole in it. The silver piece I used to go over it works really well to hold it in place.

I made it. It only took me a few minutes, so it isn't shaped perfectly. Since it turned out so well, I'll probably try to make some more that are better. :)

Awesome Pynedor! Thanks.

The only problem is it being a "fixed" piece.. At least I don't go popping klickys after they're done...  I suppose if the neckpiece wasn't fixed, it would be possible to use a non-fixed cape too....

Still, brilliant idea, and looks great :)

The way I get around this is to use the Fi?ures skeletons and heads in customs. They are made in a way that they can be popped off whenever needed, without using any of the old methods. They have somewhat rounded "lock-in" parts on the head pieces that allow for this. It's great for customising, and you can just pop them without worrying about doing any damage to them after they are complete. I know what you mean about finishing one and leaving it, but with the new Fi?ures parts, this can be basically forgotten. :)

I reckon I'll be using the Fi?ures heads and skeletons for all customs from now on, so I should be able to make many more and test out combinations much easier.

As another note - I haven't tried it since I don't really like to physically alter the parts - but I suppose the older heads could could filed down to allow for the same ease of subsequent poppings. They might be loose after this though, as they won't have been done perfectly by the moulds.

I love to use the F?gures skeletons that way, too. Makes it so much easier. I do that when I'm experimenting with a custom, so that i can take it apart and do it over several times if I don't quite like it. Also when I'm doing a photo story that invloves the klicky wearing different outfits so that I can take the same head and re-use it easily.

Alright. If you don't want to use the Fi?ures skeletons, I'm sure you could make a removable cloth cape if you spent some time making some sort of clasp or tie-around for it.

Yes, they really are cool. They come with a lot of great pieces, and I was surprised at how cool the archery target and horned helmet are. As I've said before, I wish the demon knight had gloved hands, but he doesn't look that bad with some vambraces added on.

The Eagle castle was my first one. This is that castle combined with some new pieces. All together it's the only castle I have. I've really taken a liking to the red roofs. Now I need more, muahaha. But really, I'll probably just aim to get a building for now to put inside the walls so they have somewhere to actually live.

Also, I wish that Playmobil castle walls were more like actual castles walls in thickness. I guess that'd be impractical for price reasons even if they were hollow or had passageways in them, but it sure would be awesome to have them like that. :-\

Looks great, banners are easy just print them up on the computer

Indeed, and I know someone who has digital versions of the heraldry that'd be easy to print.

Thanks! Eventually I might be able to set up some scenery for them so it looks more realistic. :)

I keep thinking that, but whenever I imagine what I want, it can require a very large amount of Steck. I think I have about four pieces of Steck right now - a little broken wall with a spider-web in the window area from that one set with the two green barbarians.

I remember playing for HOURS with just the magician's workshop (my sister got that.. so the steck downfall is her fault!)

I've seen a lot of cool setups like yours, Rhalius. I might eventually get some Steck, but now I'd have to find it all used, and to get complete sets can be quite expensive. Especially since I was thinking more along the lines of that gigantic Steck Bastille that someone made a few years ago.

For the sake of the kingdom, here is a better (clearer) picture of the castle as it stands now:

At least as it stood before... this horde of evil-doers and other assorted miscreants decided to attack:

Unfortunately for the band of miscreants, Pynedor and his compatriots have dealt with this sort of thing before and can thus easily defend the kingdom:

As seen here though, they have yet to afford banners that actually look like banners and that are cut properly.

They also had some assistance from the kingdom's prominent denizens, who decided to gather in the small area within the castle walls and talk about what they should do. Meanwhile, the castle defenders were already dealing with the threat.

As you can see, the golden knight made an appearance donning his new Golden Dragonslaying Helm, in case the evil-doers were to summon any of the fearsome creatures. As I have no dragons, this is unlikely. :-\

That's the beauty of it - you do not need complete sets.  System X you really do for most buildings, but with Steck you can just use pieces here and there and add them together to make and expand your own creations.

Another good thing about Steck is that it takes up a lot less space when you disassemble it.

Hmm, I've gotten a few new things in the last few months. I got the Medieval House and barn Add-On, which is awesome. I only had time to build it once and then take it apart again, but I am liking the Steck. I knew I would, but it does seem to be harder to find nowadays!

I also got some Fi?ures from series 5 (Thanks, Tiermann).

Lastly, I got two of the dragon bags for the figures. I wanted to make sure that I got one of the new bows, a guandao, and a dao sword. I really like these new weapons. They are awesome! I was a bit surprised that the dao is flexible though; I think it'd have been better if it weren't. The only other things from this theme I think I'll get are the expansion figure packs and maybe some spare parts.

I'm also looking forward to the Scottish Highlander from Fi?ures series 6, as he has a claymore with a painted leather-wrapped hilt! These historical items make the future look very good for historical releases! :)

And here is just another picture of some of my favourite figures:

Well, Playmobil Hype decided that since I bought Hype: The Time Quest more than two years ago, I might as well get around to saving his virtual self and his betrothed... So I finally got around to installing the game, and it is really awesome, actually. I would play the Playmobil World MMORPG even if it had graphics of this quality, just because it is that cool to play in this world. And if it were designed with even half the quality that this game was, it would surely be awesome.

I wasn't expecting it at all, but the voice acting and music in the game is absolutely fantastic. I've only played it for a few minutes, but I plan to aid Hype in his struggle all the way to the end when I have time.

It's also just great to see all the actual figures that are in the game!

If you can get ahold of this game, I definitely recommend it. I bought my copy new, still in the shrink wrap, and it was actually quite cheap. Of course, I opened it right away, haha, and they seem to be going for a higher price now. Anyway, it can be a tad difficult to install and play the game on newer operating systems, but if anyone has any issues with that, just ask me, and I should be able to help you out!

It looks quite cute, think I saw parts of a playthrough somewhere once.

Graphics do look a little dated, would be great if a new game like this was released with graphics a bit better. Doesnt need to be anything too special though, just enough to capture the details of the figures better and a little more details in the enviroment.

I really do think that playmobil has the potential of creating games similar to the lego games.. that kind of quirky fun but without being bound by a license.

The controls can be a bit difficult to master, but so far I've only fought a few wild boars and a band of highwaymen as in the pictures. :D It's cool to know that there will be some difficult enemies later! It is definitely a much more involved game than I had thought. I think it's a lot better than the newer games (the Knight and Pirates ones).

Hmm, I was going to suggest firstly to install the games on an older system and then transfer the files to your Windows 7, but you've already tried that it seems. Unless you mean that you attempted to run the game in compatibility modes for those operating systems, which probably wouldn't work. The easiest way to get it onto your 64 bit system would be to directly download the files instead of trying to use the packaged installer.

If you can do that:

Inside the folders, there should be an application file called MAID3DVR_BLEU. Run that to play the game. The introduction movie may not play (the files are inside the game folders though, so you can watch the movies whenever you want). In any case, press [ESC] to skip to a Ubisoft loading screen when you hear music playing or the introduction movie. After that (it should take only a second or so to load on your Windows 7, tahra), the game will start.

Keep in mind that you will need to insert the game disc or use a copy of the ISO image in a virtual drive to actually play.

(maybe you should open a new thread about this? I wonder if there aren't more people out there with the same problem  :-[ )

If you really think so, then I probably could. A quick search shows that the game has been discussed a few times on the forum briefly already. I would really just suggest what I have above for now. :D Check your private messages though, tahra. I have included a bit more information for you there.

As far as getting your other older games to work, I would suggest trying to install them on an older system to transfer the files. You could always use a virtual machine to install an older operating system and try that route if you don't have access to an older machine any longer, but that would probably be much more difficult for most people.

It really is quite fun! :) I'll probably post some more images if I find anything really interesting in the game world as I play through it.

Also, today I got these two awesome cars. They are sort of based on the real 1986 Suzuki Swift GTi, considering that they've got emblems on the back that say "Swift GSi". To me, they look just as much like the Volkswagen Mk2 or Renault 5 Supercinq. I'll be fine just considering them to be cool fantasy hatchbacks of the Playmobil world though. I have always wanted to get some of these older Playmobil vehicles, and I'm glad that I chose these ones to be my first modern items. I just need modern people to drive them and ride in them now, ha!

It's hard to tell in the picture, but the one on the left is a bit faded, and the one on the right is essentially mint. I'll be keeping that one as it is, and I eventually plan to customise the faded one.

Uh, thanks, tahra.

*Hype: The Time Quest spoilers follow*

Hmm, in the Hype game I encountered some Knights Templar! I wasn't expecting them to make an appearance in the game! It was great. I met one named Talboth, sprung him from the dungeon, and then he turned out to be a traitor, so I had to fight off the lot of the Templars at their monastery fortress.

The Templars look great in the game. Seeing all of these familiar figures is fantastic. At every turn there pops up a Medieval peasant or Special figure that I recognise from some set. I actually wonder whether some of them were created because of this game. I know at least that the Hype special was, and I always wondered why that Special (4616 if you're wondering) was so unique, what with that sword and all.

This game gets better and better, but it makes me wish even more for the MMORPG that never turned up. I would play that all the time!

Nice cars the one you've customised is already looking very smart just for being repainted in that nice grey colour, I'm not a car expert so the nearest thing I can draw comparison to is the toy Saab car which I had as a kid it's certainly got a good sleek shape to it. Guess shouldn't be to surprised the Templar Talboth was a traitor after all you did spring him from jail so there must be reason why he got there in the first place unless someone just didn't like Templars

Yes! After talking to you about the dragons in your thread, I remembered wondering whether they fit when I bought the bags. So I went and made this quick custom right away. It does fit and looks cool, but he can't sit, of course. I'll have to try out some other things.

Sure thing. :) The mouse isn't used in the game from what I've seen. I'd say getting used to the controls are the most difficult thing about the game. I was thinking about buying a USB controller just to make this game more enjoyable.

Thanks, Erik. As I'm sure you guys have seen, I really like this Sugarloaf style helm and probably overuse it. But I did try the one you mentioned along with several others, and a lot of them look really good. I'm not sure which one to go with for the final version of this custom though. First, I need to find some donor legs for it since currently that is a Templar underneath the armour (you can see his swordbelt that I've covered with the plate), and I don't want to sacrifice one of them. Legs with those small shoes aren't on any of the newer figures though.

The black knight's helmet is called a sugarloaf?     As I've said before, I'm not fond of helmets that cover the face  :-[

Yup, because it looks like a sugarloaf.

Just to clarify, you meant the black knight as in the Special 4517, right? The one he has, along with the Dragon Slayer helm and the one that my white knight and new silver have are the sugarloaf ones. The one that my black knight with the cape has isn't. ;)

That's quite a team you have there, though you might want to give that poor girl some more equipment! already no helmet for her, and she only gets a kitchen knife as a weapon while the others get big swords, flails and axes.  ;)

Nice pictures of your hype knight fighting the templars too!

Thanks, Rhalius. I considered giving her one of those fire staves, but it didn't look right. Somehow I've just not been able to find a weapon that fits well, and I like the flowers better than any helm I've tried on her. She's so agile that it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks, Giorginetto. :) The leg armour parts are from the new Asian Dragonland bags. They are supposed to be for the equippable dragons, but they do fit the older, narrow legs. According to the parts sheet:

30 25 6163 Silver Leg Armour
30 25 6173 Silver Pauldron, Shoulder Armour

The helms and tail armour don't fit human figures.

Great customs, Pynedor! I've got some of the asian dragons too and it didn't come up in my mind the leg armour would fit a klicky. The silver guy looks best without shield.. when you have armour and sword like that, who needs a shield?

Thank you, Lynx. :) And I agree with you. He does look best without a shield. As I was putting him together, I thought that the best weapon for him could be the new claymore from the Highlander Fi?ure, which obviously he wouldn't need a shield for since it is a two-handed weapon! Once I get one, I'll have to try it out.

I got a few new things today. The prices sure seem to be increasing lately, especially with the Specials Plus. I'd rather have just the figures without the added things for a lower price... :-\

I got the guard on the upper left for parts mainly since I already have one.

Nice purchases it's annoying if they keep raising the prices but, I've gotta say I do quite like the look of that special plus figure and those accessories that hairpeice is interesting, the Mongolian warrior also looks very nice I like the colour scheme on him as well  :)

The Special Plus is definitely cool and will fit with the other Green Dragon Knights that all use that colour scheme. I think they are finally turning away from that though. And the Mongolian warrior special is great too. That and the other older Special (bought for parts) were on sale! :)

I tried some of the things that you guys suggested and some other random ideas.

I am fond of this magical ice sword :D:

This is the only helm that looked alright on her:

I tried some different arm guards on this custom:

Then I tried the great helm with some black pieces:

...and a red dragon slayer helm:

I also tested out a custom dragonhide-armoured archer. This one will need some adjusting too, but the red and black colour combination turned out better than I expected. I'm not sure if I want to keep that or go with dark metal and black or just black. :-\

I haven't had much time to get anything new lately, but I did get some new parts a long time ago that I finally got around to looking at.

I got a new silver jeweled shield for Pynedor, a new dagger for him (I really like the new dagger style, though this isn't in the picture), got some new armguards for the female knight, updated my archer so that he is finished, and added a magic caster to the group (I think she turned out well for being assembled out of spare parts :)).

I do seem to be running very low on arrows though. They don't seem to ever be in stock, in any colour. :(

After seeing the next wave of stuff that's on the way, I decided that I'd try to find some of the stuff that's still available that I want. I found these three Fi?ures, all ones that I really wanted and hadn't found yet! :)

The king is pretty ordinary, but the printing on the crown surprised me; it looks great!. The Aladdin figure is cool. I don't have any of the Native Americans with those legs and was wondering how they'd be, but they seem fine to me. The Maleficent figure is a lot better than I had imagined, especially with the awesome green head turned to the good side! :D

I always try to keep my sets complete, and I try to get other parts together whenever I make customs. Well, when I opened the Maleficent figure that I just showed, I found that the package contained two of the green heads! This made me think of a cool idea for a custom using the extra head that could join my other fantasy customs, and so I put this together!

I tried to get some cool pictures. These two are the best. :)

Thanks, Birdie. I haven't exactly figured out where he fits into my group of characters yet. I was thinking that he could be some kind of spirit who wanders the forest (like the Green Knight from Sir Gawain and the Green Knight) or who is enchanted (he does have a magical ice sword), or even a goblin knight from faraway or something.

Cool buys I agree about the legs on the Alladin figure being good for an Indian brave not so much for an Arab figure btu, forutnately it's not all that noticeable. Really like that custom Knight you've made with the green head he looks good with his magic sword and you've got some good ideas for his story as well, I managed to get a similar shot with the light reflecting of one of my knights on horseback a while back it can work quite well provided it doens't blind out the subject

I don't think so. I almost considered something like that, but it just didn't look right. I also tried making a plant stem look like a magical arrow or something. The next time that I try to order some of the normal arrows, I plan to try to get some of those flaming arrows (the individual ones) also.

Problem with those is that they won't fit in the quivers... only good to stick somewhere, of for them to hold - the non flaming ones!

Luckily I managed to get some more quivers and arrows, and I did not actually get any of the individual ones! :) Hopefully I'll be able to make a lot more custom archers soon.

It's been a while since I've had some time to post some more figures that I made. Here are a few that I made over the recent months.

These three fantasy Vikings will hopefully have a ship soon!

The black and red figure didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped, but I like the simple black and gold king.

I finally gathered enough parts to make a second golden dragon knight!

I also made a small green goblin-like figure to join my fantasy characters. :)

I reckon this armoured knight turned out well!

My hooded archer got a new bow, and I made another archer (mostly from the Eagle Castle archer).

And... lastly some familiar faces came out to enjoy the winter season. ;)

Thanks, Tiermann! I agree. I like simple designs, and I almost think the red and black one is too bizarre, haha. I don't think that one will stay like it is.

Some grogeous klickys there - good use of the green arms with the red line.. :)

I think the gold+black guy turned out great, and so did the golden dragon knights

Great idea on the goblin too!

I mean normal arms that have coloured hands - like all silver or gold, or white or black sleeves with metal-gloved or other solid colour hands... basically any arm that doesn't have skin-coloured hands.

I keep putting designs together and find that I have no suitable arms.

Yes! Now I'm trying to find 5166 at a reasonable price. I'm going to buy like 10 of them for the parts. It has to be the ultimate DuoPack for parts. :D I need a ton of those black leather vambraces, and the new black longbow, white swordbelt, and white platelegs are amazing!

I'm working on this one now which could probably use those platelegs (and not sure about whether to remove the plate printing; too bad it's not the lighter silver!).

I WANT that bow too (a Black Radly!) and the red klicky, shields, and the white belt, yes... And the white neckpiece! If you want to get rid of those, look no further ;)

I suppose the legs will do, but like I told you, I'm not fond of either of the plated ones. I prefer the first ones.

Hmm, I never liked that style of neckpiece much. I feel like it's always loose. And I'm not sure whether I'll be getting any of the main line of red falcon knights, so those shields might be unused too. Perhaps some kind of trade will be in the future. :D

Haha, I know. I kept switching between the two, and I can't decide which style I like most. The special for the older one is hard to find. And yes, bracers as you call them, for the wrists. ;) The archer has one on his right arm, hidden behind the shield.

Nice figures your new Knight and the black and red/black and gold figures have a nice simple design but, they look good. The Goblins a great idea nice colours and I like the Vikings great choice of shirt particularly the white one with the blue and yellow collar. I really like your other new Knight with the big Highlanders sword and the blue sword the Roman torso works nicely as does the interesting angle on the first photo, I see what you mean about the printing it looks good personally I think the wings could work as a nice design to add some light and shade.

That Duopack does look like it contains some reasonably nice useful figures. It's good to see your golden Dragons Knights again looking good and the idea for Summoning the Skeletons from the grave works well in the snow

I finally managed to get some Series 8 Fi?ures. I found a place that had an untouched box and got all four of the Crusaders, wizards, and kings and a few Vikings. :)

I haven't had too much time lately to make new custom figures, but I did change around some of the pieces for a nice crossbowman and an ice wizard:

I like to have most of my figures be able to stow their accessories on their backs or on belts or straps if possible to keep their hands free whilst not actively engaging in combat or other activities. However, I am unfortunately out of weapon clips (the kind that go on capes and such with pegs), and my magic staff users mostly use these. So until I can find more of those, I'll likely not be making much progress on more mages or wizards or the like. :-\

Ha! Yes, they do look sort of strange and over colourful and printed. That's one of the reasons why I like the DuoPack 5166 so much. The red figure is very basic and can be used in many different factions. He reminds me of the older Knights. And the white figure is really just a giant source of parts. I might keep two or so of them as they are. The DuoPack really does have a great amount of parts; this was clear when I opened the first one and laid out all the pieces. :)

It's nice, I like some aspects of it, but I don't like the way it stays low to the ground and can't sit up very high. Likewise I don't like the hands that can't grip objects in the same way as a klicky. My favorite is still the first really large black dragon.

I found more of the 5166 DuoPack. :D

I've thought of a few ideas for what to do with the figures after pillaging them for parts. As I mentioned, the red figures are great for many factions. I've turned some of mine into crossbowmen for now.

I was also trying to think of what to do with the blue figures. I don't particularly like either of the new faction designs (and consequently the shields from the set), and I wasn't sure of the gold and silver clash on these figures at first. But... then I tried a few things, and I came up with the idea to make some of them into dual swordsmen.

I also thought they would make a nice addition to the unicorn knights. :)

Just the other day I got the new Mongolian figure and his back seems a mess with a quiver and a large sheathe for his katana, this seems like a better use for such a neckpiece.

That (GORGEOUS) neckpiece has two pegs in the back - same pegs as those straps that appeared with the vikings.

You can put two "loops" there and hold two swords... Or use those "grabbers" and put a bow... a shield.. whatever.

The same neckpiece is also used for wings.

(btw, Pynedor, if you are looking to get rid of those neckpieces.... let me know ;) )

He looks very nice :)

Thanks! :)

I had time to send a few of the DuoPack parts to some others too. My archer received his long-awaited black longbow. I think that I can say he is finally complete!

And the perhaps equally long-awaited white platelegs...

I'm still not entirely sure about the dark metal plate. It looks okay, but it would be perfect if it were the lighter silver.

And the last one for now - a dark metal and crimson knight. :)

Great additions and customs, Pynedor! That ice wizard looks awesome! Did not notice the white knight of the duo pack has such great platelegs! I don't really like the new knight sets but this one is an exception. Have to get a few, I guess.

Did you rub the blue stripes away for your avatar? The new dwarf king has a torso which would fit well for green dragon officers or kings, I think.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Rhalius. I can see why you would say that. Perhaps I equip too many knights with the Sugarloaf helm.

Thank you, Lynx. I agree about the new Knight sets; the DuoPack is definitely my favourite of the lot. And yes, I did clean off the blue stripes.

I've yet to get any Fi?ures from Series 9, so I don't have the new dwarf yet. Thanks for the idea though! :) I have many Green Dragon warriors and have been collecting more.

Yes! I wish it were available in more colours. It really isn't that bad in pink for this figure though, and I do prefer a magical staff over a wand. ;)

Well, though the color DOES match, in this case, I find it ridiculous to have a pink transparent wand. Like the wizard staff :(  And both have such amazing sculpts, mostly ruined by the silly color :(

It's a magical wand. A wand is like a magical staff, just much smaller.

a magical staff

Ahum...  ;D

Sorry, couldn´t resist  :P
Thanks for explaining, and the meaning of the word "wand", which I didn´t know. I would have had to look up "wand", in Dutch/Flemish it means "wall". I insist the piece looks akward, even as a magical wand for sorcerers etc.

Aha, then you should be familiar with: "The wand chooses the wizzard, Harry."  8-)

I accept the pinkness of the wand for a brightly coloured witch, the translucency is quite nice. If only they'd do wands in other colours too for a change!!  >:(

I have a lot of parts lying around from 5166 DuoPacks and from Series 8 King figures, and I finally made some figures out of them.

I made these dual-sword knights:

The black bows went to some of my archers:

A white belt and one of the king's two-handed swords went to this knight:

I turned the kings into fantasy-style flamberge knights:

I also put together this dark metal and yellow knight:

Sugarloaf helms abound as usual on my knights...

I might make a few minor changes, but overall, I feel like this batch of customs turned out great. :D DuoPack 5166 is fantastic for gathering parts for simple, clean, classic-looking knights, and DuoPack 6847 looks to be another great one. Hopefully I'll find some of those soon.

I completely agree, very nice customs, and those DuoPacks are a great resource!

I particularly like the last, dark metal & yellow knight - great idea to use the legs from 4435/4438! Too bad that not all parts are available in all colours. I would have been utterly perfect if the belt had matched the other shade of yellow.

Best wishes

Thanks! And yes, I wish the belt were the exact shade of yellow too. There's a pirate sash in the same yellow, but it wouldn't fit with the hood and wouldn't look right on a knight. :-\

I finally found some Series 10 Fi?ures. The Fire Mage and Fantasy Archer really make this an awesome series, and the giant ghost pirate was surprisingly cooler than I expected (see low quality glow-in-the-dark picture below :)). The rice farmer's conical hat is great too, but the fairy warrior's printed face doesn't look very good (and mine was terribly off-centred...).

That is a common face in the fairies... I never know which way it works, but you may try that silly crooked hair on the off face.. I was lucky, and my misprinted heads were off in the right direction :D

The picture may make it look a bit better than it is, but one eye is about at the edge of the mouth, and the other eye is nowhere close to lined up with the edge of the mouth. :-\

The only acceptable solution to the printed head problem that I've found is to replace all of them with moulded ones. Even ones that aren't off-centred usually look bad.

It is a shame, that they moved to this cheap painted ones. Especially cause printing quality has been steadily decreasing for years :(

I've had some time to put a few more figures together (some fully-armoured knights this time).

First, I tried using the new Super 4 pauldrons for these two knights:

I really like the new pauldrons. I'll probably try to find some without the lion printing (especially for the knight on the left). I could take the printing off of some, but I'd rather not in case I find a better use for them.

I also made this white knight, a lot of the parts for whom came from DuoPacks 5166 and 6847. The one thing that I might change is to give him a silver swordbelt instead of the white one.

Better not clean them - they cost a fortune, compared with the non printed ones...

Hey, everyone! It has been a few years since I've posted here regularly. I'm happy to be back and to talk with all of you again! I just spent a few hours reading through all of the great posts that I've missed. :)

Since this thread is about my collection, I'll also note that I've definitely not stopped collecting Playmobil and have increased the size of my collection by quite a lot over the last few years. Many of my new purchases have remained unopened though, since I haven't had as much time lately to open them or to make many custom figures. In a way, I suppose I've started to become more of a collector of unopened new sets. That doesn't mean that I don't open or plan to open them, but I usually only open a set when I have at least two of the same one. Recently, I purchased two more copies of my first set - Set 5792, the Blue Knight Playmobil Pal. I don't plan to open them, because I already opened my first one, which started all of this!

I've missed you all, and I look forward to posting here again! :D

Those are some of my favourite shields! :D I've been looking for more of the blue and purple jewels for them, but they are quite difficult to find.

You can find the silver version in Set 4147, Set 5670, and Set 70187.

Apologies for the double post, but I wanted to add to the previous post that I ordered several of the silver shields as parts years ago. You can also order the jewels separately, which come on sticker paper and can be added to the shields.

Thanks for the info! 💜 The purple jewel in 70187 is very fancy!   I don't really collect the knights/medieval sets (if space & funds allowed I would) but I know I'll get sucked in more at some point.  it's just a matter of time..  I think I'm going to look for some armour for a custom figure I have in mind, i'm blaming you.  :P

Playmobil skirted the concept with Super 4 but an actual rpg type fantasy theme with parties of adventurers would tie in all their fantasy themes. I wouldn't expect a guild hall but an entire fi?ures range dedicated to fantasy characters is a must.
Your customs are great as is your adventurer group.

That would be excellent. They have certainly released plenty of nice fantasy figures and parts (like the ones related to the green dragon knights in Macruran's thread), but more would certainly be welcome.

And, of course, there was the Playmobil World MMORPG (https://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=10585.msg196352#msg196352) that was never released. :(

Thanks! I'm glad that you like them. My camera is quite old, so I use natural light when I can to get somewhat decent pictures.

Here is a new one. It took a few years to get all of the parts together for this knight.

First in this next group are some armoured knights; one is a ghostly version!

A knight like this is what first came to mind when I saw the newer DuoPack Set 70821. I might try out some different helms, but gold ones are not so common. I wish there were a golden sugarloaf helm (there is one in the dragon slayer style with a green plume, but a normal one would be great)!

Thanks! I really like the different magical swords and other items. It would be great if more were made, especially in varieties that make use of smaller blade or other item moulds. Most of the existing magical swords are quite large and can look oversized at times.

I really like the black ones, and that unusual purple.

Thanks! The black and white ones are some of my favourites. :)

The purple one came about after I bought some of those purple staves and wizard hats. I have been trying to order the black staves (from the green wizard in Fi?ures Series 4) without luck for years, so I finally tried to order some of the other colours and ended up with a few purple ones. Similarly, the purple hats were the only ones I could find for a long time, but I've had better luck with the different hats lately.

Thanks! That doesn't seem to be a common colour, so it was nice to see that the turban with the new DuoPack Set 70821 matched something.

Pynedor,

Catching up on about 2 months worth of your pics:

Nice use of lighting, on the translucent weapons especially!

I LOVE the look of your adventuring party. A good mix, aesthetically.  The flower crown is more flattering than the dragon helm on your lady in white, IMO, but I could see how the helm might be safer work gear.... glad the party's archer found a friend.  More ranged weapons are always a plus!

I always wondered what the green translucent bracers were  good for...  Necromancy!!  Who woulda thunk it?

Really liked the various liches and wights.  Good use of frost giant and undead pirates.

And generally: great use of parts!  As previously mentioned, the blue-ish turban works great.

Always happy to see some high fantasy creations from you.  Keep 'em coming!

Yes! I thought that the mask would work in a fantasy sort of setting too. It might not provide the best visibility for actual fighting, but it looks cool. :D I also used the chestplate from that figure on the warrior with the axe.

The Series 22 (Set 70734) knight has some really nice parts. Here are some figures made using the torso.

As many have said, unlike most pieces the torso is printed on both sides. The printing isn't perfect, but it looks really nice!

The arms with silver hands are particularly nice too. Here is another knight.

One figure I was missing for a long time was the space warrior from Series 19 (Set 70566). The cape and hood have a really nice colour. I finally found two of them and opened one; one of the arms was moulded incorrectly and unusable, but at least the hood and cape were alright! :-\ I think they go well with the spear from Set 70187.

Thank you! :)

Series 22 has some great figures. I think the series bags are likely some of the best selling sets (though maybe not the most profitable), but, with those new My Fi?ures sets coming out soon, I wonder whether the normal series releases will continue. They have been my main source of parts over the last several years, but it can be difficult keeping up with the new releases, especially when it is becoming more and more rare to find them in person.

I am not a fan of that leg mold, but it works beautifully in your customs

Some great combinations there, with some pretty uncommon parts. Really like the woman with the Rembrandt torso and the bat fairy helmet. Great combination.

Thanks! I think that that leg style can look good on fully armoured knights, and I think that these black ones with the gold markings can look good on a greater variety of figures when used with some matching parts.

Thank you! :) I've been collecting different parts that I thought would work well with these colours.

Great glowing eyes, didn't notice them before.

Thanks! The head on the last figure with the red and yellow eyes is from the Series 21 (Set 70732) vampire. :)

Wow, all those black/white/gold ones are so dramatic & really gorgeous.  Love the pale pink hair (is that from the fox mask DJ? I have some of those on the way & it looks SO much better on your lady!) & darn, I want some of those black kris type swords, they are very cool!!

Yes, it is! :) I'd like to use the fox mask at some point too, but I need to find the right figure for it.

I want some of those black kris type swords, they are very cool!!

You might still be able to order them as parts. I've also found that Set 70076 is an excellent value for parts (and it includes the Black Knight with the sword).

Several of the figures in black and white clothing use the arms with the black sleeves and white trim and hands from the Lady Nightmare figure from EverDreamerz Series 2 (Set 70478). I think that the robe bottom from that figure can look alright if the white lines are thought to be folds of the robe (instead of an outline of legs). The one on the right has this robe bottom.

I may have missed the lady nightmare nightmarish skirt used on the wizard! I will need to try that, since I never did figure out what to do with it!

And I love the female unicorn one with the annual peasant's torso!

Thank you!

I put together the parts from various sources, so the figures are not from any one particular set. The legs on both of those figures are the same ones from the knight in Set 3971 if that's what you meant though. That figure is also in a few other sets, and I've used parts from it in some other figures earlier in this thread too. The gold parts on it have been released in both the older and newer gold colours as well. :)
