I noticed that some sets have been said to be rare. What does that really mean? They have been made just for a short time or sold only in some countries? Is there any real rare Playmobils in my collection?

Pictures of all my sets can be found on Dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8vm5cz4omokgh0z/AABM7Pjf_E4lpw4_g3bFVcKZa?dl=0

'Rare' is a bit of a vague term that's thrown around to be honest - because what people normally mean when they say it is desirable or valuable. I doubt the two fully match up, due to some themes being much more popular than others.

That said, some sets did have a very brief life span (I think a lot of the Victorian sets were only produced 1990-92), and they probably were cancelled because they weren't selling. That said, some 'rare' sets were produced for years, so again the two don't always match up.

Nice collection JensL! And those dropbox pictures are a very handy reference.

There is a facility on Playmodb.org to create sets of set pictures from a list of set numbers. It's very easy to do (go to the home page, click on 'a set list of your choosing', paste the set list in the box- it can have text and numbers in it as the program can pick out the set numbers- click on 'submit' and the pictures are displayed in batches of 40) and you can see the results here There seem to be some duplicate numbers on your list!

Of course they are all extremely precious sets from your childhood! I would certainly love to have some of those sets in my own collection

The book Collector gives an indication of 'rarity' as decided by the author and other collectors. I suppose sets which were of limited availability are likely to be rarer, as are older sets. I checked the first 40 sets on the playmoDB list and found 3054, 3149, 3385, 3435, 3524 and 3570 all had a 4 out of 6 rarity rating (6 is the rarest), while 3050 and 3423 had a 5 out of 6 rating, so these are the rarest in the first 40 sets, according to Collector.
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)
