They are indeed, Sylvia, and thank you from me, too.  The detail in them is excellent and quite amusing in places, for example, the small child in the pianist one more interested in his toys than the music.

My pleasure! :)

There does seem to be quite a lot going on in the pictures. :yup:

I've been trying to work out whether the boy in the 5404 diorama is begging. If not, I guess he could be in charge of selling the paintings which are lined up against the fence.

I found a few other old sets with dioramas on the back which I will upload later this week. :)

I think your second guess is right - he's the artist's son, in charge of sales while his dad continues painting.

Wonderful detail those dioramas, lots f charm and character, and I wish I'd bought some at the time.

I like the two Policeman shots - just one figure has been changed, but the ceowd are all the same! I guess French and German civilians in that era dressed much the same?

Is it too much to hope that Playmobil might re-release some of these sets as an Anniversary celebration, as they did with some Western sets? I'd especially love to have some of those children with their toys - the boy with a paper hat & the toy cannon is a wonderful piece!

i just realized i don't know when that aniversary should be, martin.  :-[
i always thought playmobil started to sell sets in 1974 but the 25 year's special edition schooner - 3133 piratenschiff - was released, as far as i know, in 2001 (although it says 2002 in collectobil).  8}
could 1976 be the "official" year? 1975?  ???
that would postpone the next important aniversary (35 years) to 2011 or 2010.  :'(
i am confused...
  :hmm:

2004 was the 30th anniversary and that makes 1974 the first year.  Sample figures appeared at the 1974 Nuremburg Toy Fair and the first sets were in the shops in the autumn of that year.
