Title: 1732
Post by: specialist on March 14, 2019, 20:25:30
My purist approach to 18th century armies. When the printing is gone EVERY combination of colours is possible and the variety of uniforms of that time finally comes to life. Stay tuned because this thread is going to be huge!

Nice, one of my favourite era´s  :)

Removing the prints indeed leads to a much greater spectrum of possible combinations.
May I ask how you find the time to remove so many prints from so many parts from so many klickies? (I´m thinking of all your other purist-style customs as well, like the medieval ones) Do you use gums/erasers, superfine sanding paper, or something else?

The funny thing ist that for each colour-combination that looks good there actually is a uniform in history/that era.

I use erasers (the red-blue ones: blue side for erasing biros) and I do al lot of erasing in the evening sitting in front of rather boring TV programs. There are quite a lot of programs which work as "radio" as well  ;).

I've used Brasso on Lego minifigures. I think that works the quickest.

They all look good!  ;)

I haven´t checked what you post on KW lately. Are you doing mostly customs without prints these days (purist style, or close) or do you still do (a lot of) other figures?

Personally, I find it twofold with what Playmobil brings out these days. On one hand they come up with all kinds of new hats & accessories & vest-colours & etc. which is great, but on the other hand sometimes the printing is overdone (and not always removable, like when several prints overlap one another and you don´t want to erase them all) and also the newest "Southern-Europe" skincolour - which is very close to the "Asian" skincolour but just a bit darker - makes it more difficult to find the right arms & legs in the right colour. The newest skin-colour also complicates buying figure-parts without seeing them in reality, pictures must be of very good quality to still see the difference with the "Asian" skin-colour.

@Hadoque: my purist approach is right now limited to "Anno 1732" and part of my "Middle Ages" collection (and a few single figures). "Culloden","Napoleon in Egypt","Charles the Bold" and some smaller projects are more "realistic". And there is a topic "Anno 17.." on the way.

Love your soldiers, they aresimiliar to what I am trying to create in Playmobil for the Armies of Marholt (the role playing world I have been building for quite some time).   However, after seeing yours, I may elect a more minimalist look.  Right now, I am using the various printed torsos from the Pirate theme.

I have seven sets of white shorts with white stockings, but see that you have dozens.  I have tried to find more on Ebay, but have had no luck.  May I ask, how you came by so many sets and can you help me acquire some?

Thank you for sharing and the new idea on how to build my armies.

@rexalan: the soldier with the white trousers was availabe via the German DS but sadly it was not included in my last order. Is it really discontinued? I sometimes try again a few months later and suprisingly it is available then but there will come the day when the won't sell it anymore....or it is included in another set.

Today some civilians!

Ralf,
You give Playmobil all of your wonderful ideas for free.
And, what does Playmobil do? They sign a contract and pay for a Heidi license?
Ralf, please never stop sharing your fantastic creations.
There are lots of us out here who really do appreciate what you do.

Richard, I think my ideas (especially the purist figures) do not appeal to the target group of the company. Too much minimalism, too much history. But will Heidi be bought by kids or parents?

Ralf,
You and I both know that it’s the parents who select the toys to buy.
However, if the toys that the kids think that they want are heavily influenced by the TV shows and the movies that they’ve seen, then the kids then might be the ones who will convince the parents about which toys to buy.
LEGO seemed to be aware of that when they started buying licenses from Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Mickey Mouse, even before they all belonged to Disney.
Hans Beck was a minimalist much like you. He designed a basic figure with accessories that could become whatever the child imagined. Hans created an "educational toy" that appealed to the parents and was enjoyed by the children.
Horst Brandstätter was an entrepreneur who created a multibillion dollar company doing whatever was needed to grow the business. Sometimes Horst was a visionary. Other times he was a risk taker. As he grew older, he seemed a bit reluctant to leap into the world of buying any license. Why would he, if he could be successful without having to pay out percentages of his profits?
Playmobil was doing quite well in Germany. It is now undoubtedly the national toy of Germany!
The United States accounted for less than 5% of Playmobil’s income. Everything was fine in Germany and Horst had set up a foundation to continue the business when he would be gone.
The foundation’s mentality does not appear to have Lego’s experience or reputation.
With her education, experience and marketing background, had Andrea Schauer been given the freedom and the resources to openly compete with LEGO, things might have been very different today at Playmobil.
Regardless, it is now what it is, and we wish the foundation well. And, we are very thankful for you, Ralf, and your creations, so that we can all see what might have been.
All the best my friend,
Richard

I think geobra will not be able to rely on the German market forever to keep itself going, it will need to diversify and there seem to be signs of it doing that which is good.
