Title: 5137 Pirate Boat with Hammerhead
Post by: Wolf Knight on August 31, 2011, 15:03:33
I love this set for two reasons:

1 Maori-like tattoo pirate
2 the hammerhead shark  ;D ;D ;D

So here is the box front and back:

Lets see the klickies up close

Isnt the maori-like tattoo pirate awesome?  :D

...But... the black head band is easy to bent, rubber like... and the skull sign can come off easily if you squeeze it a lot of times  :-\

the boat...

nice touch to set the cannon on the boat!!!

and a final scene...

Dont worry the hammerhead wont get caught... he'll flip over the boat before the pirate manages to release his spear (which is the one used in many knight sets...)

Hammerhead

I like the tattoed klicky too, but I find the boat ridiculous, with that stupid looking cannon... wouldn't it be blown to pieces when the cannon fired?

Oh, and who's that near the boat? I see a fuzzy hand!

the "shaped thingy" for the clickies' feet in the boat...is that new? how does it work? maybe it is also for making them stand while the boat is on the water? ???

Yeaps thats the reason for being there, the klicky can stand up.

Unfortunately the design f this boat does not make it convinient for klickyes to sit in the middle of the rowseat...

btw, this mold is the same as 4295 - Treasure Transporter with Row Boat (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4295)

I don't think the cannon would blow up the boat, but the recoil would be something very interesting to see :cham:.

That's a great shark.
The cannon does make the boat seem awkward - how does it stay afloat? Some sort of ballast at the rear?

It is also to act as a foot "rest" for anyone rowing the boat and keeps the klicky in place on the seat..  It has been in other rowing boats but to a different design, and the boat will take two rowers on the seat.

I forgot to mention the cannon - a ridiculous size for the boat.

She's gorgeous

I meant with the recoil, yes, not the firing itself.

I already find the gorgeous 4444 too small for a cannon.. bot on this one, it's REALLY ridiculous. Not that I KNOW about it either way.. but it sure looks far too small for it.

I like the cannon thought it would be better for them to put it not that much in the front. That boat is going down nose first like the Titanic.
I really like the set as I said bfore, but I CAN'T STAND those cannon balls... cannon bullets, whatever the name is.  >:( >:(

The way things are going, we'll soon have cannons strapped to the klickies  ::)

The figures are very very nice. I have to see the soft plastic/bandanna issue however ... and whether itll become brittle in the long run.

Thanks for these reviews WK!

Its my birthday soon, and I promised my family I wont be buying PM before then, so ...  ::) ::) ::)

real tall ships often have smaller cannons called swivel guns mounted on the railing.

they should have used this instead of a full-size barrel on this boat.  i swear playmobil already had swivel guns but i cant remember...

Here:

30 29 5600 - Cannon mount, U-shaped with swivel (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-29-5600)

I think the new knight superset has them too (I don't like cannons in knights :( )

can you take a comparison pic of the hammerhead vs. the normal shark?  Did they remould the entire shark?  Or did they just add hammerhead extensions on the normal shark?

and is there still a metal ballast?  or is it all plastic? on the shark?  (older sharks have metal, the newer ones dont)
Title: Re: 5137 Pirate Boat with Hammerhead
Post by: Wolf Knight on August 31, 2011, 21:56:59
Its a whole new mould, but I have no idea for the ballast.. I dont know if the shark from the pirate lagoon is an old one, I mean is there an older one than the lagoon shark? but here is how they float...

wow, thanks!  Seems the regular shark is a tad bigger?  (hard to tell from perspective).

Just seeing them swimming around together in your bowl looks ominous and creepy!  I'd hate for a clicky to fall into that bowl of doom!

I want an army of sharks (both styles) to infest my piratical waters!  I hope they sell it as an add-on at some point.  Heck, I have to wait a whole year for the entire new pirate theme to get to the US, darn it!

Shark from the lagoon set has a metal ballast I believe.  I recently got a newer shark (can't remember which set it came from) and I noticed the ballast was just solid plastic, not metal anymore.  Much like the metal anchors being replaced with plastic.  Seems to still get the job done though.

I bought a bowl exactly like that one a few days ago....

;) i can't help thinking the tattoed klicky would make a perfect moby dick's queequeg.

p.s. to blackpearl2006 - the swivel gun was already used in the 4136 set (one of my preferred playmo sets) - http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=4690.15

isnt this swivel gun the same size as a normal cannon barrel?  I swear I saw a smaller one than this mounted on someone's 3050...though it might have been a custom.

I was going to get this set the other day but they wanted $18 - 20% off and it still seemed to much for a shark and a tattooed klicky. The boat w/cannon is very silly not only the size of the cannon but I never like using red rowboats. I will have to break down and get a few boxed sets but I really want to order dozens of the klicky. The shark I have a feeling will get used in a lot of sets like the old shark and over time collectors will end up with schools of them, so no DS orders needed.

Now that you mentioned it there really should be a smaller cannon since there isn't one. Like the scale in the previous picture, about 1/2 the size of the current one. I would not even care if it shot but it would look a lot better on a 4444 sized boat. This dingy boat should not have any cannon, even a 1/2 sized one in my opinion, just armed to the teeth pirates  :captain:

A mounted harpoon gun might have made more sense considering the included shark.

Great little boat and figures.  I scooped one  up a while back at target.
The gun is a bit big, but I like it......I may try to make a smaller one and see if it works
out.  Thanks for the picture of the real cannon, Black Pearl.

I have passed on this set a few times in the last few days.  I love the tatoo'ed pirate bt the boat is... me'ah.  I really an not interested in the shark.  I bought s set last year that had a small rowboat, island and a shark.  I have no idea where the island and shark got packed away too.  I will probably order the pirates through DS after I see how my first request goes (unless TRU marks it down more)
Off-topic - anyone know when the stone age sets will be available in the US, or did I blink and miss them?

The stone age sets just came out in Germany a month or two ago, so we have a while to go before they come out here. It's usually a year, unless Toys R Us gets them early.
