Title: 4081 Safari Set
Post by: Tiermann on September 25, 2006, 14:57:24
Here is my promised review of this great set.

This is a new set available in Germany. I have no idea if it will make it to the export markets, hopefully so. This is a great set and will go really well with the last Safari set released.
This set consists of two large landscape formations, a zebra theme jeep, and various African animals - including a brand new baby zebra.

I really like the whole set. It is interesting they have chosen green landscapes where the last set released had sand colored land pieces. There is one tiny waterhole but a hippo and baby, elephant and baby, two giraffes and a baby, zebra and baby. monkey and baby, two chimpanzees, two vultures, and a lion family all to share it.

The set comes with three figures, the zebra jeep, and various accessories. A nice assortment with plenty of play value. I have to say this is by far my favorite jeep yet. It is nicely equipped unlike the export Safari set with the old jungle jeep missing many pieces. Hopefully if this makes it to export they wont cut it down in pieces like the did with the last Safari set.

Even if you aren't an animal nut like I am this set is great for the jeep and scenery. It isn't inexpensive though. This set cost 49,95 € plus in my case shipping from Germany. I am very pleased and happy to pay that for this set, especially since there is that chance it wont show up in export, or will be watered down form this configuration. Special thanks to Jack Landon for helping me acquire this great set.

Thanks for the review, Tim.  It's not an item in my range of interests, but I can appreciate very much the thought that's gone into it by Playmobil.  I like the landsscpe elements, very realistic, and the detailedc accessories for the jeep, as well as the detail of the skeleton for the vultures.  As you say, great play value and overall a very nice addition to the Playmobil selection.

Thanks again.

Great review, Tim ...

I just bought the new Safari station at Target. It's Steck-System and would go quite well with this set.

Thanks for the review. Hopefully, 4081 will come to the States.

All the best,
Richard

See Jean Luc's post HERE (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=1044.0) for more info on the Safari set that I got at Target.

Yep, I have that one already - it's a great set too.
I will have some photos of combined sets and other random bits for the gallery section soon. I need to get the savannah photos done so I can move on to the Halloween castle set up.  :)

Hey Tim, thanks for the great review. I have not been able to get the Target Safari set, but I plan to, just because of thje Steck cabin.

I had sent Heather the set info and she has it up at PlaymoDB http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4081 (http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4081)
My recommendation would be to order the unique jeep parts from German DS  through a friend in Germany and then either convert a common safari jeep or get the rest of the parts from DS Canada.

Is this set no longer available then? Sorry, I'm out of date with things. When did it come out?

It was an exclusive to a German store chain last fall. The box is pretty big too, so finding one in Europe and getting it shipped could be costly.
It's a great jeep so I hope it shows up again in a regular set or a Target one at least.

Guess I'll have to follow your plan then with Euro DS and have someone ship the parts to me. That or eBay the thing. I just really need the Jeep and immediately what goes with it. The rest is not that important to me.

Thanks Tim

Tim, do you have any idea if this set is still available? Or at least the baby zebra and the jeep?  Is there no chance of getting these through US DS? I really need some baby zebras.

Thanks, Anne

I love the man in center, he looks realy like hardbitten adventurer, in french we say he's a "baroudeur".

At this point there is zero chance of getting them through US DS. It was only released in Germany, so they never would have sent any parts over here. If you have a German contact they may be able to still order them from German DS. I strongly suspect that the baby zebra will show up in either this years or next years German add-ons catalog. Animal families in the add-ons sell well. We will know about this year's German add-on catalog some time in the next 6 weeks or so.

Thanks Tim. I placed my very first parts order yesterday, and did request that baby zebra but as you said, not available. Can't wait for the new German add ons catalog, I'll be watching for it!
