Title: 4877 Secret Agent Detection Jet
Post by: Wolf Knight on June 14, 2011, 15:00:51
Once again, I did something I never believed I would... I bought a second Top Agents set... But hey, this one reminded my a lot of the space theme, I mean the bad guy and the detection jet can work really well on a playmospace set up!!!

So, first things first, here is the box:

New cool design... I actually grow quite fond of it, the silver stripe and the blue square-doted top...

I'd like to draw your attention to the fact that the bad guy is actually a reproduction, with minor modifications (ok the gloves are the only thing different with this new model) of 3095 - Vortex Voyager (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3095)

I was too excited to put the set quickly together so I did not take any pics of the bags... but here are the assembled pieces:

Two klickies: female top agent, male roque...
The female has a new hairstyle... I've never seen it befor in any klicky, while the male rogue, except from the ''evil'' eyebrows, has a Maori stye tattoo around his one eye... cool!!!

Just a detail of the backpack, plugged with a system-x red plug on the suit...

and next, the little drones and the rocks!!!
These drones are soooo cute!!! they are chorme coated, so that the detector can pick them and two of the rocks are shallow for them to fit inside!!!

The detector...
not very impressed by it I must say but if I cratch off that spy team off its tail I think it will be far better...
All the designs on the dark grey part are decals, appart from the ones on the tail, and I must say that the ones that write detecor on it are the most difficult to place...
So anyway, here is how the detector looks underneath...
four system-x plugs, and the white detector can clip on the vehicle, but please note that the vehicle seems so... cheap underneath... Playmobil design could at least cover the part beneath the wings somehow as the main body is covered by the detector... but I guess, in their mind this does not make much of a difference to a kid...

The detector works at a really small range... you will have to place its sensor literary on top of the mettal item is its to work and start beeping...

So when played, its not an exaggeration, to lay down the detector on the surface for it to scan...

...and you know, being too close to the surface to scan for spy drones can be very... dangerous...

this is so cool! Panos! thanks for the review! I had no idea it was a real metal detector! One more excuse to take my playmo to the beach!
It's true that the under side of the detector could be better. It looks cheap indeed.
Anyway I love this theme!

Well, the review is over folks...
Hope you liked it  :) It may be a top agent's set but it looks like a lot of fun....  8-)

Oh, one more thing... too much fun can lead in you buying four sets   ;D
(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x335/Baldthar/4877%20review/DSC02846.jpg)

But then again, we would never know of some minor mistakes at playmobil production.

These guys look great, dont they?

but, if you look at all four of the closely...
if you place the arme greaves to close to the main body, in other words, exactly where they are supposed to be...
the whole breathing gear moves upward and the space helmet does not stay at all in its place... its constantly coming off... And it happnes to all four of them... At first I thought, ''naw, just a minor mistake in the production line...'' but then I opened the second set and the same thing happened... next day I bough another two sets from another toyshop, which means, maybe, a different chronological production...both sets had the same problem...
So if you need your helmet to stay on all the time, just place the arm greaves a little off..

Finally, check the printing on these faces...
It may not be very well visible, I might need to get another pic of this, but the printing on the thrird klicky from the left, as you look at the pic, is a little off... seme with the far right klicky...

Just a couple of concluding facts for this, otherwise, really cool set!!!
Thanks for reading!!!  :)

   that sure is a great excuse Gaston!!! I made the exact same thought  ;D but I got discouraged by its short range...  :(

Thanks for posting the pics of the hair, Panos. I haven't seen that style before  :thanks:

Glad you enjoyed it guys!!  :)

You are right Jenna, it is very nice hair. But I like the ones you pointed out. They fit knighst and vikings very nicely!!!

I forgot about vikings. I do like them on vikings, but I usually swap them on my knights. But everyone has their own preferences  ;)

Nice review Panos.  I really like the tattoo on the face of the evil klickie, but overall this theme is too goofy for me to get into.  The high price for the electronic gizmos is not a selling point for me either, but I'll bet kids would love it.

WHY oh WHY do you do this to me?! I LOVE dark scorpions.... (SOMEONE bought a bunch of Dark Invaders a few years ago  )..

I hadn't realized that was a female.. and the tattoo.. AGH.

I suppose nobody is gonna buy that for that gyzmo thing, right? And it must be cheaper to buy the set than get the klickies...

(lovely review)

Thanks SO much for the great review Panos! The droids are so cute! And I do like the new hair style. I have the treaure hunter set that has a working metal detector, http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=4847&cgid=Schatzjaeger (and btw, the shiny red rock thing has metal inside it) but every household needs TWO low-range toy metal detectors, right? Riiight? So I'll just have to get this one, too!

Great review of a set that has been on our list  from day one. The boys are so excited about this theme especially they want the RC truck w/camera.

I do wish there was a way to get these with out paying for more metal detectors but I am sure I can make games out of them, I know "go find your allowance its buried in the yard"

In my humble opinion, Panos, the new female hairstyle is the best part of this set.   8}

Thank you el jefe! I share your sentiment about the theme, but some pieces of it remind me, or can be used in other projects so it seems I can't let the theme completely go by...

The only problem for them is our yard is 3 1/2 acres  Although every time we dig we do find old arrow heads or at least parts of them. To bad we do not live nearer to gold county, we could have used the metal detector to find gold and use it to buy more playmobil  :woohoo:

Hey Guys and Girls,
At first i had a very bad opinion about this theme. But my son bought a couple boxes from this theme for his birthday.
One of them was the laboratory of dr.Evil professor. This set is great you should check on that.It comes with a eco flashlight with ultra violet option which can make visible some top secret stickers (that also included in the box)
Also as Tier says the droids there are great and they can recharged in the lab using again the flashlight as power source. It is a great scientific box from Geobra.

Great Review!

These sets just arrived at my local Learning Palace store today, and I got at least one of everything except the spy camera, and two of this set and Dr. Evil's lab. The tiny droids are fun, and I wish they'd done more types. Oddly no sign of these at TRU yet.

I too hadn't noticed the white figure was a girl, I gues I would have when I get round to opening it.

Note that the age range is 7-12, not 4-10 as with most Playmobil sets, presumably because of the electronic parts.

Am I the only one who thinks it's moronic to put an upper age limit on the box? The lower is useful, if you're buying for kids (yeah, right!), but the upper...

Sometimes I think they don't like money.

I hadn't noticed the woman either.. Now I want it, for her and the Dark Scorpion..

Yes, an upper limit is silly. It makes older kids who might otherwise want the set feel funny about it, like maybe they're just being too childish.

last saturday I bought three western sets (wagon, stagecoach and bank) and then 2 mugs for my friend's twins. The clerk asked me if they were presents and as I asked her only to wrap the mugs. she looked at me and said "Are these early Xmas presents for the kids?"... mmm surprised at the weird question I said Nop... those are for me.    She looked at her co-woreker sideways and said cheerfully ok!... (but she looked as if she was thinking I was a criminal or something)  it was so funny!

Yep, that's my answer too. It just annoys me. ESPECIALLY since they assume it's for a boy (another moronic thing)

Nice review! This set looks like it has a lot of potential...if they can increase the range of the metal detector and make the arms and helmet fit tighter.

PM has to bring out new products for the kids if they are to stay in business, and this appears to be popular with kids as well. Glad you like them, Pgal
