Title: Xmas sets 5589, 5590 & 5591
Post by: tonguello on October 25, 2014, 21:44:16
Hello everyone!
I can smell Xmas already here in B.A.

Some new sets just arrived with some very interesting features.

First 5589, The 3 Wise Men

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/DSC_0015_zpsd3292e85.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/DSC_0015_zpsd3292e85.jpg.html)

I'm not sure HOW NEW are some of these parts but they are new in my collection so I'm very happy with the set.

The guys are BEAUTIFUL. The red and the green "hats" are new to me and I just love them too much . The printing in the clothes is very nice and whole look works fantastically in all of them.

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/DSC_0009_zps3fef0880.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/DSC_0009_zps3fef0880.jpg.html)

The tap of the vase I think is a new part, right? The "smoke thingy"; I love it!

I never saw this bracelet before though it could have been in some fairy set maybe. It would work there too. Lovely.

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/DSC_0012_zps89f98826.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/DSC_0012_zps89f98826.jpg.html)

The camel seems to be the same camel than in Egyptian sets, BUT, I have never noticed this:

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/DSC_0016_zpsb43c7a3f.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/DSC_0016_zpsb43c7a3f.jpg.html)

It seems like a separate part. Is this new??  ??? ??? ??? ??? And WHY? What would it be for?

The biggest surprise in this set is Balthazar's eyes. They do not have the white injected part. The mouth is injected as always but the eyes are injected in the same color than the face, so the eyes are just the printed black part. I think it looks really well.

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/DSC_0014_zps3c33e2f5.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/DSC_0014_zps3c33e2f5.jpg.html)

Now, was this an accident or a design decision? Does somebody else has this set to check?
The box shows the classic black and white eyes though...and he actually looks deranged there!

Another set is 5590 Santa with sleigh.
Not much new here except for the beard. New piece. Really cool.
But I was surprised with the hair too. I thought it was the old straight-lined semi-long hair but I think it's new too. It's wavy!

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/DSC_0017_zps5501f743.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/DSC_0017_zps5501f743.jpg.html)

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/DSC_0018_zps99706dab.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/DSC_0018_zps99706dab.jpg.html)  (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/DSC_0019_zpsb5ac9173.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/DSC_0019_zpsb5ac9173.jpg.html)

And last 5591 The tree ornaments.
I LOVE THIS ONE!!!

(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb432/tonguello/DSC_0020_zps1b08c7a9.jpg) (http://s1205.photobucket.com/user/tonguello/media/DSC_0020_zps1b08c7a9.jpg.html)

I'm keeping it unopened until December 8Th (traditionally the day we set the Xmas tree here)
The new feature of course is the "rings" where the angels stand, which is the part you can hang from the tree. Unfortunately I don't see an instructions sheet so that means no part number  :-\
Anyway, I can't wait to open this!!!!

I plan to get those wise men too, wonderfull parts! They could be used for both the roman and the medieval setting. Fantasy too, with some adjustments they could be three mages.  :)

I think you have a production error there since on the box he looks normal.

Is the cape on the red guy new? Dont think I saw that shape before.

Nope is not new. I think in fact is one of the oldest capes.
It came in blue on an old western lady from the 70's.

It's new in gold though.  :)

Thanks for the review, tonguello! I wanted to see a review for this.

And that style of cape is great for knights. It fits with arm armour! ;)

Thanks for the review. Those new wise men are really beautiful and so are the tree ornaments. But is only three enough to decorate the tree?
Great purchases!

The wise men set is gorgeous!
I've got a few of those hats with red in them, from the Egyptian theme - I think - they may be in different colours. I agree the printing on their clothes looks great.
I think I'll try to order the insence thingy.

I have camels with and without the belly part. Maybe they used it so that they can make a hollow animal (= cheaper) and then cover up his belly, or something?

I really like the Christmas ornaments, very cute.

Not too sure about Santa's new beard and hair. To me it looks like a fake beard.

Thank you for the reviews!!

Thanks for the review...

I didn't preorder these, and now the store doesn't have them :(

I like those sets - though from the Santa what I really want is the beard and hair (the hair is, I think, a caveman hair).

The kings are very colorful... interesting eye color there.. but I HATE the lame painted faces. Escpecially with the general lack of printing quality. I do love the prince hair in white. We really need more white hair.

The golden cape is the same as the figures green which had. Very nice.

The insence thingy was present in another of these sets, wasn't it?

It's a shame the xmas ornament cloud doesn't allow for adults to be posed there. What a missed opportunity. Anyways, it REALLY beats hanging a bunch of klickys on the xmas tree, as at the beginning. How creepy!

Those wise men are going to be foreign kings for my Romans to engage with.

I love those wise men so much. And they're different enough from my current wise men that I can justify getting them... not that I need to justify getting more Playmobil.

Thanks for the great review, Gaston.  Are the hairstyles on the two angels on the left in your picture new?  I don't think I've seen them before.  I think Birdie may be right about the camel tummy, either that or they want to switch it out at a later date to make an anatomically correct male version as well.   :o  Santa's hair and beard are an improvement IMHO, much softer looking.

Great reviews and photos, tonguello. No instructions for 5591? OK, noted. (If that is also the case for 5592, can anyone verify?) The official website parts-page (http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Product-Show?pid=5591&showSpareParts=true) does show three part numbers for "Weihnachtsschmuck-Ring" - 30 63 4034, 30 63 4044, and 30 63 4054 - but which is which colour, I can't tell.

OMG! I hadn't noticed that! Are they really white or "pearly-white" like the ones in the mystery figure angel?

And her dress is nice too, and Saint Nicholas outfit is also cute.... Thank you tahra  >:(, now I need this one too!

YAY! I failed to preorder those, and now they are, predictably, sold out. I think I'll try (eventually) to get some from parts, since though the woman is gorgeous, the guy is not that great.

BTW, any chance of a pic under her skirts?  >:D

Has anyone seen stickers that accompany this set? The playmobil.de site says that part 30 82 0962 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-82-0962) is stickers that come with 5592, but it's named to be from 4887 - Saint Nicholas and Angel (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4887) (the previous version). The NL site says all the Zwarte Piet sets have it too. Would love to have a picture.

Hey I had it in my hand but I didn't buy it yet. It's on hold for me. For what I could see the skirt is plain white. The shoes are golden. No stickers, just the leaflet.
that's what I could see with the blister unopened  :-[

You're right it must be that.

Hmm! The official spare-parts page for 5592 (http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Product-Show?pid=5592&showSpareParts=true) shows both the plain red book and the printed one, but that's common for printed parts: for the unprinted version to be available and assigned to the set as well. I just strip out subparts, including plain versions of printed parts, unless they're on the instructions. None of the Zwarte Piet sets (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?title=Sets%20containing%2030%2065%209702%20%28Book,%20closed%29;setlist=4893,4887,5206,5217,5592) have plain books with stickers in their instructions, but only printed ones.

What do you mean by "lately", tahra? Do these sets come with plain books with stickers already applied, whereas earlier, they had printed ones? Just trying to get the facts of the matter.

Yep - I remember remarking on it on the Figures 7 review (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=14082.msg258493#msg258493). The nun had the book with sticker.

Thanks for the reference, Tahra - very curious. All stickers, except mirrors, are just German-named "Etikett {setnumber} "{setname}" so it's very hard to tell - at least the physical stickers themselves have numbers on the sheet, when there's a sheet. If anyone sees this sticker with the backing sheet and number, give me a shout!

OK I finally have it in my hands.
I can confirm that the only sticker is the one on the book and it comes already in place.
The book therefore is not printed.
The angel's skirt (under the golden skirt) is plain white.
The shoes are golden and flat, no heals.

I hope it helps.  <*)
