Title: Dinos! Dinos!! and more Dinos!!!
Post by: VicKlicktor on May 12, 2012, 22:19:50

5235 Dimetrodon

Welcome to my first review ever. The new Dinos series is amazing. I will start with the set 5235, Dimetrodon with Waterhole. A compact box (25x20x10 cm or approx 10x8x4 in) with the new DINOS logo on it, smaller than I expected.

Klick Kong is ecstatic to meet a far relative.  (Dimetrodon is more related to mammals than to dinosaurs), 280-265 million years ago (Permian period)

Additional fauna? Yes! Bright yellow flying lizard, blue dragonfly, black/green/yellow colored banding snake and a black scorpion.

What else? New flora! Arboreal fern and exotic plants.

Nice review!!
Im no fan of Dinos but I see some interetsing things here.
First the compact box, it seems Geobra is economizing cartboard, wich is good.
Second the Dinos logo, this one is cool, but Im afraid we are going to see the other horrible ones too in other themes. :(
Third Im more pleased with the aditional animals and the plants  than the dino itself. Love the translucid flower!!!!

I am glad that you playmofriends enjoyed the review. Now, I have one more...

5232 Stegosaurus with nest

This dino was missing in the first series. Children can recognize easily T-Rex, Triceratops, Brachiosaurus-shaped dino and Stegosaurus. With the great four group completed, we could expect dinos like Parasaurolophus, Pachycephalosaurus or Plesiosaurus for future series. The set contains two good mums of different species, very responsible to take care of children. This is why Junior is with Dad watching the marvelous process of life. The box is a little bit bigger than set 5235, (30x20x10 cm or approx 12x8x4 in)

Stegosaurus lived 155-150 million years ago, a genuine resident of the Jurassic period.

A final comparison. The prehistoric spotted caiman looks modern. True crocodiles, alligators and caimans would appear after Stegosaurus extinction (Thanks Wiki!!!). Gorgeous caiman mum anyway!

Great new review of the dinos. I really like them and the kids really love collecting them all. They noticed the new interesting plants and I too want those. The only thing I found odd with the dinos is their colors. Pink, really did geobra have to use pink? Would kids not want them if they were colored like todays minature dinos, the lizards?

Edit: I must admit the babies look like something out of a 25cent machine at the grocery store.

Aw, I love the baby stegos! Ras, they look orange to me, not pink. Very cute set, and more really interesting plants. I think that's my favorite thing about this series. They could be used in combination with the future planet sets to show a strange new planet, too. Thanks for the great review, and btw, junior is adorable!

Now, I want to show the following set:

5234 Triceratops with baby

This dino is the same seen in sets 4170 and 5014, just with a different paint design, also the baby. Colors are not as bright as shown in box. Interesting stuff? A nice nature observer klicky with camouflage clothes and a tree that makes his job easier. The box has a medium size (30x25x10 cm or 12x10x4 in).

Triceratops lived during the late cretaceous period (68-65 million years ago)

This is the contents (including a new snakefly):

This set gives us an alpha male. Why? Watch how he displays his colors to attract females as part of courtship.

Another great review, but why is there a human hiding in a dead tree trunk with dinosaurs? He looks like he has a blaster or camera or something from the future and timewarped there... Hmm, is this explained at all?

Those giant bugs are really cool too.

Yep, he looks like a time traveler to me! Thanks for this great review, including the pics of the real thing. I love how you used the new one as the male, having more vibrant colors. Really great idea!

thanks for the review

Fantastic reviews! Funny how the ape assists you displaying the sets. If I had more room, I would definitely also collect the Dino's because I 'm crazy about them since I was 7 years old (like a lot of boys now, but I was that age in the 70ties, far before Jurassic Park)

Those bugs and plants are truly amazing.. Thanks for the review!

5233 Velociraptor attack on Deinonychus nest

This set gives us two dinos belonging to the same family; although seen before in other sets, dinos have new colors now. In addition, the giant trunk is remarkable and useful for other themes, plus a klicky with an immobilizer gun to deal with dangerous creatures. The box has a medium size (35x25x10 cm or 14x10x6 in).

The modern theories say that both Deinonychus and Velociraptor, from cretaceous period, had feathers (Maybe we will see a new Geobra design for future series).

Final comparison: Did you notice the side view of the box? Claws are not painted in the image but figure fortunately is!!! I hope all figures will have brown claws in the future; otherwise we will have the same issue seen in set 4175:

5231 Brachiosaurus with baby

This nice set gives us a brachiosaurus with the same body color than dino in set 5014 but with a new paint design. Many of us wanted a baby brachiosaurus long ago and Geobra finally awards us; despite his small size, the baby is awesome. Finally, we get an outstanding big tree, actually the baobab seen in set 4827 but leafier. The box has the same dimensions than set 4172, where the first version of brachiosaurus appeared (40x35x12 cm or 16x14x5 in).

From late Jurassic, Brachiosaurus could have reached a length of 26 meters (85 ft) and a height of 9 m (29 ft)

5230 T-Rex and Saichania in the Volcano

Children will enjoy this set! It is huge and offers a lot of fun for them although collectors not specialized in this theme may pass. The new T-Rex has vivid red stripes and the Saichania is a very well made newcomer, with a ball joint in the neck that allows wide mobility to the head. The box is very large (55x37x20 cm or 22x15x8 in)

Saichania is a kind of Ankylosaurus, armoured dinosaurs with an intimidating clubbed tail, very successful during cretaceous period. T-Rex is a very well known dinosaur also from late cretaceous.

The set gives us a cave, waterfall, exotic plants, fossils (trilobite, ammonite and dragonfly in amber). In addition, two klickies well equipped to perform their jobs as archaeologists.

Love it!!! :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: Oh, I must have this set! I really like the fossils, especially the dragonfly in amber. That is just awesome. And the new volcano and the whole baseplate is just fantastic. Seems like it could be a great backdrop for a zoo exhibit. :!: Thanks for the very thorough review, including pics of the dinos these are modeled after.

and again a great and detailed review. Thank you.
These Dino sets are awesome indeed. Even my NPSO (Non-Playmo-Significant-Other) likes them  ;D
We have the series almost complete, with only the 5230 missing. After reading your review, I have no doubt it will be bought. Perhaps for fathers day  8-)

From Dinos series, I also have sets 5236 and 5237. The contents are essentially two nice vehicles for dino adventures but I will keep the sets MIB for a while. A remarkable figure is the baby T-Rex in 5236. You can watch the PM commercial to have a taste:

OK, some photos only of Dinos series 2. Not much room in the worktable to display all my dinos.

They all look great together and it is easy to see the scale of each animal. Thanks. I think the one plant looks like a carnivorous plant, the kind with the sticky residue on its leaves so bugs get stuck.

Actually, I'm the one who's supposed to inventory the dino sets, but I don't have the instructions yet since they aren't up on PM's website. Would you mind sending them to me, Victor? I believe heather told me you had scanned them and sent them to her. That way I can go ahead and get started.

5236. Research Vehicle with Cage Trailer

Just to complete the Dino theme review let’s check out this set that gives us a nice vehicle and the real star of the set, the baby T-Rex. The ball-shape wheels in the off road car are the same seen in sets 3094 and 4863 although there are also smaller ones in the trailer. The box has a medium size like set 5232 (30x20x10 cm or approx 12x8x4 in).

The baby T-Rex is cute and photogenic, looks like Mum but he doesn’t open the mouth.

Looking at your pictures I started wondering why the brush guard folded down. I was wondering if the thing was intended on being some kind of platform and had to look back to the box images to see if there were any images that would suggest uses. Then I saw the image where there is the cooler and gun that is indeed using the guard as a storage platform. Then I had to chuckle to myself on the fact how they are showing great gun safety. Having a high caliber assult rifle place on top of your cooler while your buddy is dealing with a beast of a baby, trying to get him in or out of the trailer and he just happens to be in the line of fire. If that teetering gun were to fall and fire off a round... "oops, lunch time baby T.rex". . Not that guns go off when they fall on the ground but you have to treat them as though they could. I know its nitpicking but we take gun safety dead serious around here.

Thanks for the amazing pics, as usual :)

Rasputin, europeans don't see guns the same... it is not something most of us have at home.. probably a lot of people here never actually TOUCHED a gun! (not saying you'r wrong...)

Seems like if you've never even touched one, it would make you want to be even more careful around them...

Probably...  On the other hand, most people probably don't really think of gun safety (especially around little plastic ones)... Never occured to me when I'm setting up a scene  :-[   It's like comparing my playmofiremen with the playmofiremen of REAL firemen here...

Regarding guns.. My grandfather hunted :(   He had a... rifle? is that the word?

I actually love guns, though I never touched one since.. well.. since he stopped messing with it. And I don't remember ever shooting - I remember going with him and shoot agaisnt a wall.. But I don't think I did it..  Since I couldn't shoot an animal, and I'd probably go to prison if I got to shoot what I wanted to...  >:D .. so, maybe it's for the best.

My family never had guns growing up, so I don't think I'd ever handled one before I met Chris. He grew up in a country area, so he had guns from the time he was a little kid. They were mostly for protection because there are dangerous animals in that area, though they did also hunt for food (not for sport.) We don't have a real gun now, just his grandfather's .22 that doesn't even work, it's so rusted out, plus an air gun that shoots pellets.

Anyway... on topic: this review has made me want to jump into the dino theme. I've decided not to sell my existing dinos that I was ready to part with, and instead to buy more. So thanks for the great review that saved my dinos just in time!

I'm sorry to bring this old thread back but finally the theme made it to Argentina and I fell into another never ending-money eating-wallet killer- rabbit hole.   :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
I don't have it all but already managed to get 4 sets  :)
I'm surprise at how much I like it. It's almost all new to me, parts, and plants, and small animals and of course the dinos, I never had any.

pics or short story to follow soon  :)

I wasn't around when the reviews were first post and am glad to have it brought to my attention.   (Although my wallet may not thank you :) )

Great reviews - all the detailed pics are great.  We only have one lonely dinosaur (the old t-rex from the DX expedition set) - he's always wandering around my son's train table looking for friends to play with.  My son loves playing "talking trains & dinosaur" but the trains (voiced by my son) are always too busy being really useful and t-rex (voiced by me always ends up sad and lonely"  to my son's great amusement.  Perhaps some more dinosaurs are needed :)

Now the fun part, chosing which to get...
