Title: Dwarfs
Post by: Captain Henry on February 10, 2006, 04:47:22
While I was in Detroit, I worked on these guys for my fantasy/medieval setting. I have been a fan of dwarfs since reading the Hobbit, and have always wanted to make some in Playmo. After seeing the excellent work Mofreaky have done, I wanted to emulate (a fancy way of saying "copy") them! ;)

So I did! I took my tools and some raw materials (aka Gordo klickies) to Detroit and worked in my hotel room after my work was done. This is my final result. Some of the photos have a normal klicky for comparison...

Some more, showing the two Dwarfs I made...

And again - thanks to Mofreaky for showing the way! :D

Wonderful, Cap'n! :D They look just right! :yup:

Is this the first time you've chopped a klicky for a custom? You seem very adept at it. 8-)

I like them alot.

We just recently watched LOTR on DVD and I think your dwarves are wonderful.

I also like how they have vary in height, just a bit

So could you use the bare footed klickies (from the beach/summer theme) to make Hobbits?

:wow: These are very clever indeed and i really did have to look at them closely to see how you created them. All i need to do now is to resist the temptation to make some of my own which i have a sudden urge to do !! They would certainly make an amazing army and battle pictures would be very interesting indeed.

Thank you for sharing them with us CH  :)9

Kindest Regards  Tim

Wow, first a Firefly fan, now a dwarf fan!  I want a Gimli!  ;) ;D

When Fellowship first came out, my nieces were going on and on about Legolas and Aragon ... all I could think was, 'yeah, I'll see you in the pub, I'll be hanging out with Gimli, he's a much more fun guy' ;)

Those are great customs, Cap'n.  You've got just the right ratio between height and width for maximum effect.  They look very menacing, indeed. :omg:

Will you let us into the secret of how you made them?  ???

Well done, Henry ... :wow: ... :wow: ... :wow:

Your dwarfs are so much better than my clumsy attempt at making a dwarf (http://www.gardenwargaming.com/tour/images/dfuDwarf.JPG) using a Klicky child and some Milliput ...

All the best and thanks for the great ideas,
Richard

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Is this the first time you've chopped a klicky for a custom? You seem very adept at it. 8-)

Nope, it is the second time. The first was my zombie pirates...

We just recently watched LOTR on DVD and I think your dwarves are wonderful.

I also like how they have vary in height, just a bit

So could you use the bare footed klickies (from the beach/summer theme) to make Hobbits?

Me too! Which is what inspired me. They vary in height a little because my cutting is not as precise as I'd like, but the end result was okay after all! :) And yes, I suppose the barefoot klickies would be a good starting point for hobbits. I'd probably use children or gnomes as they are smaller overall and hobbits are rather slight creatures. Also, there is something interesting about the new barefoot klickies that I will point out in a new thread...

I want a Gimli!

Me too! Which is what I will have as soon as I get the braided beard in brown from the new Pirate special! :D

Will you let us into the secret of how you made them?  ???

Uhh, well, I copied Mofreaky (http://www.mofreaky.com/mofreaky/page_galleries/pfddwarves/frameset.htm)! :D

I cut the legs just above the shoes or boots, and removed a small section of the leg before reattaching the foot using superglue and a little green stuff putty to fill in the gaps. I also removed a small section of each arm to make them stubbier, also reattaching them with glue and putty. For the arms, I used the leather armguards and armor to cover the butchery that is still visible! ;)

Your dwarfs are so much better than my clumsy attempt at making a dwarf (http://www.gardenwargaming.com/tour/images/dfuDwarf.JPG) using a Klicky child and some Milliput ...

That is a cool Dwarf Richard - I wouldn't say mine are better, just different. The big head of hair on yours looks terrific!

Nice Dwarfs! I like them.  8}

I copied mofreaky too and created my Dwarf Bugul for using him to play a Playmo-roleplay in the Playmo-Portal nearly 2 years ago. I´m a Dwarf-Fan too  ;D

Nice Greetings

Lars

Very nice figures CH and something that I will have a go at again oneday.

I don't customize much but years ago I did something similar not to create a Dwarf in particular but a taller figure.

If you snap the shoes of a fat figure and replace them with boots of a normal figure you obviously create a taller figure, I did this and called him little John. Then I put the shoes onto the normal figure and created a Dwarf although that was never my intention I just did it for fun. I will try and find the picture of Little John, I have it on a disc somewhere.

Real good work. 8-) Makes me wonder if Playmobil ever considered something like this instead of adding beards to kid-Klickies.
