I just discovered Playmobil uploaded two pictures in their online database of two new Volkswagen sets! At this moment the release date is unknown...
The links to the pictures indicate the set numbers, I assume new colours of the Kever and the T1 bus:

According to our friend Playdalai on Amclicks (http://amclicks.org/foro/novedades-playmobil/nuevas-exclusivas-volkswagen-'tu-deseo'/) you will be able to design your own version of the iconic cars! There's no clue yet how that will work... Anyway, how cool is that?!

I’d buy a hippie van. And a Herbie. Those are the only recolours I would be interested in. The cars themselves turned out nice, but the colours they were avaible in never ‘popped’ enough for me to pull the trigger. Which I would for those two variants I mentioned.

That would be the most logical thing to do - but surely it would be very difficult? I dread to think how much they would cost....

I don't think car colours are patented or copyrighted so cost shouldn't be an issue other than mixing the plastics. Here's the colour I want:

I didn't mean from that point of view - I assume anything like that would be arranged through VW anyway. I just mean in terms of production - if they were making to order, or if they offer a big range and then need to hold a huge amount of stock.

Nice - and the same price as the regular ones I think? Been quite a clever roll out really, the big VW fans will have been stung for up to 3 models.

It's a nice idea and looks like the chrome versions are the ones being used. It would be nice if they add to this in future with a solid top for the beetle. The figures should be extended to include any non-licenced figures they produce, at least those with known codes. A bus version of the van would be good too - replace the table and cabinet with more seating.

If you follow through the design link you can choose your region - the US is indeed excluded. Seems to be 20 European countries

Sorry Playmofire, the number of colours is limited (5 for the beetle) and dark blue isn't one of them.
The one for my projects is available: white, I want to try and recreate this beauty:

Couldn’t they just make a few thousand of each color combination and then just assemble the package on demand , just get one of those Maltese workers at $0.50/hour

Yes, I'd assume they would premake the vehicles, but they would still need to be packed with the right klickies and stickers. It would be easy to get things mixed up.

Yeah, it will be labor intensive packaging. I assume the cost is the higher price point.

The hippie figures are an obvious choice; however, I had already tracked down those same two hippie figures for the existing VW camper and I found out that neither will fit behind the steering wheel because of their vests. I was so disappointed, and ended up popping the guy to take his best off so he could drive. I am surprised they are pairing these figures unchanged as an option for the bus. People are going to be upset when they try to put them behind the wheel.

Well, bigger mess than usual? Used to be VERY rare to come up short or with messed parts.. these days it's a common thing.

The hippies are common, don't know why would anyone want them instead of the new exclusive? ones.. Same for the "brides" and "grooms" (though they may have some new parts as well - I'm not sure). AH. Wait. Those will maybe appeal to the non-collectors... I keep forgetting those :P
About not fitting - I didn't know that :-[ .... What a mess, and you are right.
It is VERY disappointing, but not really surprising. They do NOT test this stuff. Several years ago there were cases of klickys with holsters not fitting in vehicles, and they DO include speedos with those snap skirts with the Scooby van, which is beyond ridiculous.
I really like the new klickys though, they are GORGEOUS. What's with grandma's legs? I got that woman in short skirt and matching arms... Or maybe it's a poor render and the shoes are actually normal longskirt highheeled feet? ???
My favorite is the mechanic woman, I think.. that print in the back.... :love:

It appears to come unassembled.
I have no idea how many they expect to sell, but surely I think it wouldn't make sense to pre-assemble them. At least they will have a rough idea, based on the last two VW editions, of how many orders they will expect.
I can't find how many the 'limited editions' were, but they're both still available.

The reason the car or van come unassembled is probably because this makes it easier to supply individual choices, also keeping costs down.

Oh how I envy the sets you get in your area . I just don’t see this being distributed to the US market. I’d order at least one of every color

Got my "made to order" VW-bus today, it took only two days to order and deliver to Belgium.
It looks fantastic, really-and putting the stickers / decals on is great fun! :-)

I REALLY want some of those klickys... I'm 100% ALMOST sure I saw the pink grandpa SOMEWHERE... Did you see on THAT site that the barefoot guy has the shirt sleeves printed? Unlike the render? I am very curious to see a real "grandma", since those legs on the render make no sense...
Maybe I'll cave and buy one.. problem is deciding.... Already have one beetle too many... If I was to buy the van, I think that'd be my choice too.. maybe :P
