Title: can the wooden crate for wild boar be dismantled?
Post by: cheng on February 18, 2011, 10:44:58
reason why I'm asking is because if it can be taken apart (not just the cover/trap-door), I'll like to see if I can use the sections for ancient Korean/Japanese defences....and it can be taken apart, is anyone able to photograph it next to a ruler?
thanks!

Sorry, cheng, the body of the crate is a single piece:

Why not use the old wooden steck fort pieces , wont these look good for Asian defences  or wooden logs is not historically accurate. I have some low height wooden fences with small width wood i bought a coupls of these from Playmobil Hellas Accessories list last year to use in my mediaval set up , they are not very tal but would look good for temporary defences perhaps....  ??? ??? ???

Or you can always use steck and build the famous Great Wall of China !!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Yes it's solid, I have one here. The door is a separate piece and I suppose you could cut the sides at the corners if you wanted to take the time.

thanks Gordon & Tierman! I was afraid that's what you'd confirm as  :(
if they are flat pieces, I can order quite alot and the parcel from DS wont look like a bale of Ashigaru rice  :P
and I'll still avoid cutting if I can and especially not such large pieces (I do squirm when I see major customizations of boats  ;D)

Playmobil Hellas Accessories?  ??? I too wont hesitate to use compatible accessories if I can find them here  ;) but I cant find any playmo planks nailed together....the Japanese feudal warefare often fought in the open had without any serious stockades...even their command posts are temporary with wood and cloth only...they dont carry much with them except on their backs and horseback (I've not read any mass use of carts to carry or structures of logs and boulders. there were many seiges in castles but again nothing specially built to repel canons or guns....just simple wooden fences to thwart/slow down cavalry charges/ ashigaru with spears or stop arrows... I'll keep searcing...do tell me if something crosses your minds!  :)

Hello cheng!  Have you looked at the 3887 - Siege Tower (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3887&pics=on) set? There are some floor and wall pieces that might be adapted for your purposes (they are also available in a very dark charcoal gray color.)  These siege towers seem to show up on ebay fairly often.   :)

You indicated that you are interested in the actual size - I will try to dig out some examples and see how big the individual pieces are.

oh Indianna, thanks so much for thinking about this for me.

1. hope I'm not too late to ask you not to measure the wild boar trap (i cant use it because its too bulky to buy from DS)

2. i have the old brown version of the seige tower, thanks! yes, it has the most suitable PM parts! (The grey and dark grey versions are ok but quite drabby in case the brown ones are no longer available...I wont buy from ebay because the other pieces will be wasted)

thank you for this big help...I need these closely but crudely nails planks/timber for shields etc

spaced out bamboo/wooden poles;

dear playmofriends,
there's another type of wooden defence I'm searching for. please see below....(I cant imagine how the ones in the 3rd and 4th picture can help other than thwarting horses and pikemen(in case the enemy comes up with arrows and arquebusiers)  :P

I don't have the boar's crate and because you already have the siege tower, you saved me from having to find it and measure it!   :)9

When I saw the pictures of the other items you are looking for I immediately thought of the various rafts, such as 30 65 3672 - Raft of three logs, long (three ropes across) (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-65-3672) or 30 65 9630 - Raft, molded of four logs; mast hole, side clips (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-65-9630)

There are also some fence pieces that might be useful, such as 30 21 0372 - Fence, wooden (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-21-0372) or 30 26 8840 - Fence, rustic, wooden (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-26-8840)

Good luck with your project!  :)

P.S.  As always, many thanks to Heather and Playmodb for all of the references!   :hatoff:

Why donĀ“t you use the wooden walls of the viking-houses? 3151 - Viking Longhouse (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3151&pics=on)
