Strange question i must say ...... i dont know but my guess would be a combination of fabric and plastic....
-
Some sort of stiff backed felt I'd say :-\
Damo :)
-
Made from the same fabric that is used for the pirate ship sails... :P
...plus a coating to make it a little stiffer.
best,
socrates

This kind of material, at least in Argentina, is called "filter". There are many kinds and believe me.... it is not printable!
And the paint I think is what gives it the extra stiffnes. :)

You sound like someone who has tried a few times!

I might have ruined one printer! :shhhh:
The filters I found around here are good though for curtains. they look almost exactly as the mansion curtains except for the color. Colors are horrible.... so I tried dying them and printing them. Nothing worked. But I have tons of light blue curtains now pretty similar to the original ones

If it's the same as the curtains, would that be felt, I guess? I don't have a mansion, so I haven't actually seen the curtains in person, but they look like felt?

well...I don't know what felt is. :-[
But is sounds as it is the same.

Is it kind of like a fuzzy fabric? Maybe someone in the US who has the mansion can confirm whether the curtains are felt. Then we'll know if we're talking about the same thing.

I'm not really sure but I guess it is something like Vlies. It is a waterresistent fabric. I use BasicVlies by Erfurt (http://www.erfurt.com/cms/en/products/diy/basicvlies/basicvliesplano.html) for all my sails and Carpets. It works brilliant! It is tearproof and stable (so you can cut very clear lines), waterproof as I already said and it looks really like that one from Geobra... and the best: IT IS PERFECTLY PRINTABLE! As a sketchy example I have attached some sails made of this product, printed and cuted (btw, if someone needs a template for printing a sail, I can send you mine...)

Beautiful job on the sails, Sir Pleamo. I have never heard of this product, will have to check and see if they sell a similar product here in the states. ;D

Yapp, as I said it works brilliant. Yes I really think this is some sort of what is used by PM, the only difference is, that the original sails are a little bit smoother!

Thank you for this info Sir Pleamo!!! I have a few ships in need of sails... now where can i get such material in my city... :eh?:

Doing a little bit of research online turns up that 'vlies' is German for fleece and Plano is from the Latin 'Planus' for "flat" so "vlies planos" is flat fleece.
Never heard of it. Fleece is supposed to be made from sheep's wool. As we have sheep on the farm I can assure you their wool is nothing like what these sails, rugs, etc are made with.
So, by searching I found this:
http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/flat-fleece-fabric.html (http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/flat-fleece-fabric.html)
So, flat fleece fabric is what it would known as in English. Most assuredly of the polyester kind.
Since you can specify certain weights when you order I am sure you really need to run to a fabric store of some repute to sample their wares.

Thanks Wesley, will do, very good research! ;)
