.... to find old sets in shops, but the bottom of the barrel is in sight. This is what I found today:

Great finds! We have a shop in town that has some old sets. I got a couple of the jungle sets there, and I noticed they had the western saloon. Hmmmm, maybe I'll drag DH over there today after the movie ;D

Blimey! Wish I could find vintage stuff like that in the UK shops! 8-)
I think the oldest MIB set I ever found here that had been discontinued a while was a Mister Magic circus set a couple of years ago.
Your boxes look to be in excellent condition considering their age too, MBL. You've been very lucky to find those! :D

The best luck I had with some old stock was finding some old specials and a number of archers (3651)

The only "old" item I ever found in a shop was the Dracula special in a shop in Seattle for $.99 ....but that was nice. Wonderful finds MBL! :)

Okay, I couldn't stand it. I swung by my favorite playmo store this morning, and they still had the Western Saloon (3787). It was $55USD, so I'm not sure I got a good deal or not, but I couldn't pass it up (it's not even a theme I collect :-[ )

It's not what one might call a bargain price, but as far as collectability and value for money is concerned, I think it was money well spent, Mal. :)9
That set is getting a lot harder to find these days and usually goes for much more than that on US eBay when MIB, unless trends have changed recently. ;) I love that saloon set, not least because it contains one of my favourite figs, the glamorous Molly Brown. ;D
I was going to encourage you to go back and buy it if you were able to afford it in my earlier post, but completely forgot. :-[

They also had several of the Christmas sets with the light up tree ... but they were asking $27USD!!! for it. I think I'll wait and see what DS can do for me, since I really only want the tree.

Tiy got a decent price for the saloon. Dont feel bad.
Its a great set to have.
As much as Molly Brown is a definite must have figure, the mirrored bar cabinet, and bar are very cool accessories, too
While this is not a theme that you collect, NOW
you cant predict the future.

The shop still has sets 3531 (tv crew set), 4200 (railway platform set; 2 times), 3598 (elderly set; 4 times), 3584 (wind surfer) and Playmospace sets 3558 (2 times) and 3557. Oh, and the prices are just as vintage ;D (I believe 3531 and 4200 are around €18 each, 3598 is around €5, the Playmospace sets are around €12 each and I think 3584 is around €15)...

Well, I've fallen at last and for Western too at the same time! :o Must be the after-effects of watching the Space-Western Firefly (Serenity) series!
....and Playmospace sets 3558 (2 times) and 3557. Oh, and the prices are just as vintage ;D ...the Playmospace sets are around €12 each...
Oh My Goodness!!!!! 8} MBL...is there anyway you could nab me a 3558 Dumper and 3557 Frontloader? Meg's finished the Space theme and has passed the bug on to me (I've been oogling her sets for awhile now). Those prices are just far to excellent to pass up! I can pay, trade, beg....make cookies!
Serenity Congrats on the Saloon and we "are doing it again!" (The twins split at birth thing and/or the time warp that is. ) I just won that set off of ebay today for $35 USD (but I still have to pay $10 shipping). I was supposed to be "posting" an auction but got lost. :-[
