I got the Christmas Market set today - from Italy! It was actually cheaper with postage from Italy than any I could find on ebay in Germany or the UK!
Here's the box, another very sturdy one.

The contents in the inner box

The stalls and roofs.

At first, because the snow was already on the roof I thought it was made that way, but luckily it comes off so the stall could be used for different market scenes or a fairground as someone suggested when the 2010 sets were first shown.

This time I followed the instructions and with my trusty tweezers, the stickers were very easy to apply.

Here are the contents for the food stall, nothing really new here, but I'm sure all the apples will come in useful.

The contents for the toy stall

I like the miniature coach (which I think is the same as the one in the 4330 Fairy Tale Castle micro set but without the magnet), the dinosaur and the doll. Junior spotted that the hedgehog and snail are the ones on the 3235 Jungle Gym, I knew they looked familiar but couldn't think from where.
Here's a close up of the toys.

It should have a sledge attached and from how it looks on the box I thought there would be somewhere to hang it but there isn't.

Musical instruments, again nothing new here but I do like this recorder.

The klickies and accessories
(http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac300/skypurr/Playmo%20Reviews/4891klickies.jpg)
There are some new designs here. I really love the couple with the winter clothers, the scarf on the female looks very realistic and with the matching cuffs her hands do look as though she is wearing mittens, without being too bulky.
The sleeves on the man make him look as though he is wearing a padded jacket, but are removable.
The stall holders have great designs on their sweaters, I think I might give the lady red cuffs to make her look more like she's wearing gloves.
The children have the usual hairstyles, but I like the boy's hat and the colour of the girl's hat, scarf and hands that give the impression of her wearing gloves to match.

The thing that gave me the most trouble was the tree!
No instructions on how to put it together and at first I didn't notice that there was a groove at one side at the bottom and a sticking out bit at the other side at the top. When I had realised this the pieces fit together with no problem.

I had thought there would be something to hold the birds onto the top of the stall but there isn't and they kept falling off, but as I'm not keen on the blue colour of them I'm quite happy to leave them off!
Here's the complete set

Sorry about this being a very long review, but I'm quite excited at having got this. All in all I think this is a great set and a good one to use for a display at our Christmas Produce Fair - I just need some more stalls now.
Are the stalls themselves available from German ds? and is there someone over there who could get a couple for me? :prays:

It didn't seem long at all, Elaine. Actually, your review was very informative, quite entertaining and very enjoyable reading. And, I want this set!

An excellent review, Elaine, of a very attractive set. Thank you for your time and the photographs.
-
Wow! I really like Xmas sets!
There are a lot of things I've never seen before! I loved all that!
I think the scarf you said is the same as in some victorian ladies. so it is not new.... but I love the color and the mittens effect!
Thanx! I might get this one!

An Excellent review, and excellent photographs, Elaine! :wow: :wow: :wow:
I really love this set, and will perhaps have to buy one sometime :)

Oh great...now that I've read Elaine's excellent review, and seen the pics of close ups, I gotta get this set! :P
Thanks so much for posting this!
-
Excellent review! Thank you so much; I've been hoping to see a review of it. I really want this set to use as specialty souveneir stands for my zoo, like panda and tiger gifts by the asian section, etc. I wanted to know about the snow on the roof, so this was very helpful!

How lovely!
#mewantz (http://twitter.com/playmobileiro/status/29526472031)!, but it'll have to wait a couple of years ... :P
Thanks by for the review, anyway! :yup:

Thanks for the review. Too bad they dont add new toys or bring in the violin and cello to this set. This is perfect to have musical performance happening in the square
-
Thanks! Looks awesome!

Dinosaur! DINOSAUR! :D :D
That's a very cute tiny dragon! ;D
Except for that horrible mistake, I really loved your review.
I wonder if that set will ever be released in the US? There isn't really a Christmas market tradition here and I'm worried that it's only going to be released in Europe. So now I have to decide... do I wait to see if it's going to be sold in the US or pay the shipping and get one this year?
-
Great review Elaine!
Could I get the part number for the green dinosaur dragon please? I would like to add it to the Animobil page. Thanks :)

A very enjoyable review!
Though I must say those klickies are wearing some really ghastly knitwear straight out of a 1980s Burda magazine ;D ;D ;D
Then again, PM is a German toy, so ...
-
Great review Elaine. It really is a great set and your idea is a very solid one bonniebeth. We will be using them as stalls for our Zoo as well *grin*

Cool! Glad you liked it. I was really excited about it. :yup: PM me if you want details on what I was gonna sell at those stalls.

Great review and lovely set! The inventory is up at PlaymoDB. I'll be borrowing some of your photos, if you don't mind, Elaine.
-
Thank you all for your comments and praise :thanks:
I'm still really excited that I've got this set!
About the 'dinosaur' I guess you are right Rona, (sorry!) on closer inspection it is more like a dragon :-[ I've got dinosaurs on the brain having got the dinosaur advent...
The part number is 30 82 2202 Tim.
Yes, of course you can use the photos Heather, I'd be very honoured to be able to add to your wonderful site.
I'm planning on making a wildlife park rather than a zoo, but I'm sure the stalls could be used there too - that's if I haven't already used them for something else - I really will have to get more! ;D

Sounds exciting, will that be for Kirkbean 2011?
-
Thanks for the review. I am just trying to see where I can get all the new Christmas items on to my Playmobil Christmas layout.
-
Excellent review Elaine. I am totally in love  with the female klicky from the couple. I think she looks so cool, like she should be in a hipster ski lodge or something.
-
very nice review elain thanks :)
the light blue scarf the woman has is the same with the victorian lady's scarf in pink colour from 5507 and 5300? ??? ??? ???

Thank you for the pictures and the review, Elaine! :)
These market stalls will be very useful for creating outdoor markets for a variety of themes.
-
Great review! Very informative. :)9
Thanks for all the close-up photos, Elaine!
I'm glad you managed to get the set for an affordable price. :)
-
THe Klickies look like actors/models from an Old Navy Commercial! I like, actually :)
-
What a beautiful set and so much in keeping with the season
Thank you for taking us through as I felt I was with you while you were opening the box ;)
Karim :)

Elaine,
Your review was first class! I bought two (as well as the Christmas Room) at the FL FunPark earlier this month and adore them. They are offered by PM US as well for 24.99USD. With six figures and so many parts, that seems to be a great price.
The blue and white sweater lady is now Collectible 5204-5 with different accessories in light blue rather than teal. In the photo below, the 4891 lady is on the left with the aqua scarf; the 5204-5 collectible figure is on the right with light blue accessories. They are two very cool ladies.
Thanks again for the detailed review....it is a big help in making a purchase decision. My only thoughts are that the birds do fall off the roof too easily and they need more instruments for the other figures. Too bad PM does not feed you royalties on sales after such a fine recommendation!
Cheers, Pgal
-
Thanks for sharing a comparison of these two figures, pgal! I had thought they were the same, and thought it strange one of the mystery figures wouls be a recycled klicky. But now I see there are a few differences, my favorite of which are removable gloves. I hate when the actual hands are colored.

Thanks for the bump - I plan to buy this, and I'm, quite happy that the snow comes off!

I like the colored hands - means the creature can be white, black or indian without further problems! ;D
-
Now that is true... I was thinking that after I posted it. I am always finding customizing black or dark skinned figures difficult, as I am limited by what arms I can use. However, most of my klickys are zoo visitors, so it looks weird for some to be in shorts and flip flops and other so cold they are wearing gloves! And I prefer the summery look, because zoos are not great in winter.
-
i too thought those female figures were the same!
i like the one from the christmas set best though
and one of those women from the set is wearing an abercrombie & fitch sweater! ;D
-
I've seen them at one store so far. Any idea if TRU will have it in the US stores?
-
JAY: Nothing new in our TRU store as of Sunday. But you can order the Christmas market and room from US DS.
LUIS: You must be what we call a "clothes horse" in the US to recognize that A&F sweater! I think that both of the color combinations are great...the more the merrrier.
These two sets are full of really cool parts. Making the snow on the stall roofs optional is really neat because you can use them year round this way.
Cheers, Pgal

I can't wait to get this set!

I had planned on buying three or four sets, but I wonder if the stalls will be available from DS? I did a Christkindalmarket a few years back using the stalls from the Victorian/Knights market, plus tons of food, dolls, and stuff to sell. I was able to buy those from DS at the time. I have a few left but sold most of them on ebay. I'm already planing how to do this, but those extra stalls will be a big help.
