How do they look in real life?
« on: July 12, 2011, 00:46:40 »
Just for fun, I was trying to find out what real life vehicles Geobra used as "inspiration" for their models. The older stuff is basically more cartoonish, and I don't expect to find real life counter-parts, but the modern stuff did actually come from what you can see on the streets - at least in Europe, that is.

So far this is what I could come up with:

#4821

Mercedes-Benz Atego 1628

#4820

Mercedes-Benz Atego 1528 (I think it's "customized" by Metz)

#4222

Eurocopter EC-145

Anyone know other examples?
Cheers!
Luciano

Awesome idea! I really enjoyed your photos! Most of Playmobil's newest cars don't seem to based off any real-life vehicles, but I think the old style Sports Car (3758, 3708, etc), Citycar (3211, 3693), and Family Car (3139, 3739, 3237) were based off real cars. I remember the blue Family Car having "SWIFT GSI" printed on the rear...maybe its based off a European Suzuki?  :hmm:

The 4820 and 4821 are based on the Scania truck chassis.  The old 3880 was based on a 1990s Mercedes Benz.

Of the current vehicles, the police estate is based on the VW Passat.  The older police car was based on the BMW.

The small 4x4 fire car and vet's 4x4 are based on the Toyota Rav.

The little city car is based on the Smart.

Playmobil uses very subtle hints at the source of a vehicle, maybe no more than the general shape and the radiator grille, as was the case with the older police car.

Edit:  I'll find some pics to support these in the next week or so - I'm a bit pushed for time currently.

The DHL van is based on a Mercedes Sprinter, and the 3181 fire lead car/4087 THW 4x4 is based on a Mercedes G wagon

And I always think that the 3070/3219/3346/3399/3618/3764 looks like the older Mitsubishi pickup:

Gordon is right for the 4820 and 4821. I attach two examples of the Hellenic Fire Department vehicles. The second one is a bit old, but I think they are also using the newer model...

You are quite right, Panos, the lower picture is an older style Scania.  It is the roughly parallelogram shape around the grille which says "Scania" on the 4820/21.  The ladder is a Metz design.

Tractor time!

The 3718 - Tractor
and 3276 - Traktor With Wagons
3073 - Tractor with Hay Wagon

are based rougly on a Fendt/Deutz-Fahr Farmer Turbomatic:

And then the
4496 - Tractor with Hay Trailer

is based on a Deutz-Fahr Agcotron:

And the latest tractor 5121 - Tractor with Trailer

I think is loosely based on the latest Claas Arion:

Then, sets 4497 - Farm Tractor
and 3074 - Tractor With Vegetables

Are of a Fendt toolcarrier (this one has a cab fitted)

And finally the small 3500 - Tractor

is losely based on the Deutz-Fahr D6206:
