Title: Playmobil Display
Post by: Tiermann on July 04, 2016, 23:42:32
I had a call from the shop where I buy all the Figures series for the co-op. I also buy some Playmobil there every year, especially when they have their sale in October. The owner had an old Playmobil display piece he wanted to get rid of and thought of me. So I am now the owner of this display - it was originally for the Noah's Ark set and is oddly sloped on the bottom. It came without any Playmobil, but that's fine. A free branded display with lighting is plenty nice enough to get. It would have been nice if it had been flat on the bottom, but it works well for being up high. I have now installed it on my upper shelves and can plug in the light when I want to show it off.

Very nice. I want to see whatever you end up displaying on this. I have a good relationship with my local toy store, but haven't been offered anything this big yet!

Cool!!! You can probably shape some styrofoam to level it out.

Very nice :)

I can't make out the slope, so I assume is not very sharp?

Wow that is very cool! A great score.

My local toy shop had a large size pirate in the window for many years, but one day when I went to take a photo of it for PF it wasn't there. I inquired within and was informed that it had begun to crack so they had just put it outside with a "free" sign on it!

I'd be over the moon with that display  It's big!

Must be fun deciding what to put in it. Congratz with your gift!

Update: Here it is in the room. The angle is actually steep enough that a klicky doesn't stand well, but vehicles do ok. I actually have a tool to measure angles and the base on this is at an 18 degree angle. It is clearly designed for having up high, and that works great here since I didn't have to rearrange much to fit it in.

and as a bonus here is a box back and side you can see toward the bottom of the top picture. It's from the 4104 flatbed train car

That's a nice item, Tiermann. I think the display items are sometimes glued to the base of the case to stop them sliding- or "walking"! I bought a PM camper van once with traces of gluegun-type glue in the treads of the tyres- luckily it came away (with a pin and some effort) and left no trace.

I have seen a few display cases offered for sale on eBay, including a couple of Super4 ones which I was totally outbid on :(

I think the retailers have to send the displays back most of the time, though. Our (former) local toy shop said a PM rep came to set up and dismantle their PM window displays.

On the subject of PM promo displays, here's a nice one I saw last summer in Jarrold's department store in Norwich.
 (mind you, it was in a little-used stair well).

It looks great up there, Tim  :)
Beautiful box art too. I remember the picture from a catalogue way back. I remember I found the slope for the cyclists a bit steep

I want that job!  :o

Rather than starting a new thread I will bump up this one to show you my latest new vintage display.
It's a figure display case. I don't know how old it is, but it has residue from figures being hot glued in. My guess is 1990s maybe. It has six single figure spaces and one double wide space on each of three levels. That makes it perfect for showing Figures series, so here it is with Figures 15 in it.

Fits great on the counter of my kitchen around the corner from the main Playmo room. A really cool addition i will have fun switching out displays on.

Great display, Tim. I haven't colonised our kitchen yet, but it won't be long....

Yes, it would be great if something like this was available easily. I have thought I would use it to put my favorite Klickies on display, but then realized I would have to decide what those were. So I did the figures series instead because it was easy.

Magnificent display, and something you can go on using for displays of klickies.
