Title: 5974 Armored Vehicle
Post by: bonniebeth on August 09, 2012, 02:42:41
This is a new set now available at Toys R Us, presumably a US exclusive. The box says made in Germany, and the quality of the set seems quite good. Here are some pictures:

I really like the klickies in this set. It would look great painted grey as an armored car for your bank robbery stories too.
Is the bottom of it set up to allow the use of one of the RC controls?

Chris had this same idea as we were out driving around today and saw one of those trucks!

It's not RC compatible, unfortunately

Its a set that does feel like its kind of missing from the police theme though, its odd that its an exclusive. Why not just release it everywhere?  ???
Theres a swat team in the police theme after all.

I just wanted to show the comparison to the old Fire SUV and the new police SUV. It is basically the same truck but with slight differences. Both roofs fit each other.

First, no rear view mirrors. I really like when a vehicle has them as it makes them look so much more life like. The new police SUV does not even have the holes for them. I may drill holes and order the mirrors to test the look out

Second, it came with no flashing light unit, to keep cost down, but the hole is there and the unit fits in just great. The units usually are white and it does not look right but I may paint the white portion black on the soon modified SUV

Third, I will find out if the two vehicle chassis can be switched around, I want an RC version and this will be the only way.

Forth, no gas hole and no opening engine compartment, I think these small details were eliminated to try and capture the US market by making a more military looking vehicle at less expensive price.

The old SUV was around $40 and this is $20. I am not too happy with these small detail omissions as that is why I love playmobil so much. If they keep loosing details is just becomes yet another cheap toy.

We have the same plan for putting the working light unit into the top of this vehicle. I wish they wouldn't be so cheap and just use the stickered version, but at least it's the same size hole so it's easily fixed.

It looks very smart with the blue light unit fitted.

I think the newer low profile one painted black will look the best. I thought the lights were a DS item you could order separately similar to the water motor?

. I wish they wouldn't be so cheap and just use the stickered version,

I too wish they stopped cutting corners, I really like the motor and gas fill hole type of details Geobra is capable of featuring and god knows I am willing to pay the difference, many times  :P

No, only available as a spare part, at least that's so in the UK.

In the other "special" - the 5008 mountain rescue one produced in Europe - they kept the rear view mirrors, opening engine compartment and motor block.

Personally, I can do without motors, blinky winkies and such... Only serves to increase the price, and we use it like.. once. Maybe.

I saw this and the helicopter at TRU last night and got one of each. Now I have to watch the budget more, I appreciate the $20 price more than I miss wingmirrors and gastank filler flaps.

One oddity is that the back seat klickies have to crawl over the too case to get out, since there are no side doors, real or moulded. Not ideal when you';re carrying an assault rifle.

It was the assault rifle that really caught my eye.  As someone said above, Hans Beck would not be pleased, but I guess we're on the way to a full set of small arms now. They may not do actual modern soldiers, but we have all the weapons to start a small war.

... i keep looking at this machine gun and special policeforce and thinking its time to create a modern army and leave all those bloody arrows, swords, bayonnaites , musketes and all that junk behind and create an E.L.I.T.E force armed to the teeth with machine guns, vehicles, helicopters and stuff  .. and of course there will be a modern day iseroth
