Thanks everyone!!! Glad you enjoyed it!!

@Arnaud! I'm afraid I just brought it down... Although the force occupying the citadel uses only the double axe... pity to the ones who will attempt to break through the walls....

However, I did an interesting photostory http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=7381.0 can you recognise the banner?  ;)

I did notice the banner. Just haven't had time to post on that thread.

A mighty fortress Sir Wolf. I really wish there was something to fill the gaps between square flooring like you are using arounf your battlements. Would make it so much better. It's good to see I am not the only one with that problem.

I guess I need to get into this peace treaty business quickly :-)

That's a very impressive citadel, Panos!  It looks imposing and can easily be defended by only a handful of men.

Thanks Gis!  :) Are you refering to the gap between the outer wall and the main building? I did no intend for them to be connected but I thought about it and the only solution to that would be four way connectors and 8 teeth flooring...

Thanks Justin! Thats exactly the case!!!  ;)

I think he means on the outer walls, at the top, the areas, where they can stand, how those flooring pieces have gaps between them. Looks like the klickys could trip if they aren't careful.

First let me say , really awesome building and really like the symmetrics of it . With reference to the above question / issue I am akso facing and there is a SOLUTION !!!! I onoy have 3 of these but look awesome . They are the single top steck covers from the 3859 set !!!

30 09 531
Wall-top cover, 1-wall long

http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3859&pics=on

I also want to buy say 50  of these !!!! Do you think they will still be available to order from DS ??

Well i did those on purpose too, something like a skyline or a ladder to get on top...

I still cannot understand to which part of the flooring you all refer to...  ???

George to you mean this 30 09 5310 - Wall-top cover, 1-wall long (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-09-5310) to be used for covering up the tips of the steck walls the come out of the floor?

Title: Re: Citadel
Post by: bonniebeth on March 13, 2011, 16:42:43
No, I don't think you understand where I mean. I don't mean on the front wall where there's a big space. I was referring to the exposed steck tops in between the flooring pieces on the rest of the wall. That's what I thought Gis meant, but I could be wrong.

------edit-----

typed this before I saw this last post.

Yeap, really good and handy these , i only have three from the pirate prisons and want to get more they make a huge cosmetic improvement in steck big designs .. i wonder  if DS can get it for us .....

Yeap I see what you all mean! I'd certainly like to have lots of them to place on these ''pointing out'' edges...I sure hope we can get them from DS!

That is a superb castle Panos,   :inlove:  :wow:
I suppose to fill the gaps between the square floors, you could always cut up the longer floor connectors
http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-02-8500
but then you would need to have a lot of those spare to fill all the gaps!

...another solution would be to take the smaller connectors ( gamma shaped ones ) and use two of them . it works well !!!  ;)

Hi Wolf Knight,

Very impressive citadel, and the step-by-step (or should that be floor-by-floor) pictures are really great.

At the risk of being a nit-picking little so-and-so, can I ask how the garrison of the citadel get from one floor to the next? There are two large doors on the ground floor, but how do folks get from the ground floor up to the next floor?

I think I saw that you left a couple of gaps in the flooring at one level to allow ladders, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, great pictures and design. Makes me wonder about trying to build a similar sort of keep or great tower...

Cheers,

AndrewL

I can always bring Krull's catapults around this  citadel and in a few minutes all gaps will be filled with big boulders if  you like Sir Wolf !!!!!  opps I have short of confused talking reality and in character , better stop a bit all these posts as King iseroth might make things confusing in real life after a while   :loco: :loco: :loco: :loco: :loco: :loco: :loco: :loco: :loco: :loco: :loco: :loco: :loco: :loco:

Apart from above stated nonsense this design has given me a couple of great ideas !!! Pano, are you filling a DS order yet ? i think i am gonna do one this weekend !!!

Thank you Andrew! Yes this is exactly the case, there are a few gaps, on the main corridor line actually, that I have covered to make things easier for the photostory. In detail, those gaps would accomodate ladders, or steps, so the men can move up and down! I have taken down the citadel  so I cannot show you were exactly they will be, but one dayI'll set it up again.

Will the catapults make it past the Vanguard that is spread out across the plain surrounding the Citadel?

No worries mate!

I'll have to find sometime and fill one in, maybe the weekend!

¿Why isn’t the citadel connected to the outer wall?

Not really sure... the original plan was to connect it at the outer wall, thats what you expect from a citadel anyway... But finally, for some reason I cannot recall, it looked better this way... easier to move...

More importantly where is the town which the citadel supposedly overlooks  ???    Haven't planned on building one, maybe next time...

Perhaps it's out in the vast plain of a desert, protecting a crucial caravan route from marauding hoards and Krullites.

Well, I thought about that too... I have not managed to design my kingdom on the map yet so I am not at all sure what exactly it will be directly protecting...

Maybe you can add a drawbridge door at the second level of the inner building and remove all the doors of the inner building's first level. This way your building will be impossible to be conquered even when the outer wall fall to enemy hands.

Great work Panos!!!

It looks so simple but it is so difficult to get inside!

Actuall;y that idea crossed my mind when i started building the reviused royal quaretrs and was considering a design that would have a drawbridge at elevated level. I really hope to see this design from you Sir Wolf , for me it proved quite difficult to create this , i would need such an enormous amount of flooring and steck I was getting worried i wouldnt have enough to complete the rest of my castle !!!! But you have plenty of steck so i hop eoyu deciude to have a go and show us Sir !!!!
