Title: New licensed themes Playmobil 2019!!!
Post by: bml87 on January 30, 2019, 18:49:00
Playmobil announces new licences!!!  :o :o :o

Also in 2019, the company wants to set licensing partnerships - including "Heidi", "Scooby Doo" and "Back to the Future", which should appeal to different target groups. In August, the toy manufacturer also brings out its own film: "Playmobil: The Movie". Matching it should also give play sets.

Full article (in German): https://amp.wiwo.de/unternehmen/handel/brandstaetter-gruppe-playmobil-dank-gutem-auslandsgeschaeft-weiter-auf-wachstumskurs/23921882.html

Fun detail for the Belgians and Dutch people (and perhaps also for others amongst us), Heidi is now owned by the Belgian entertainment group Studio 100:

=> Perhaps we can expect more Studio 100 themes in Playmobil if the Heidi-license works out...(https://studio100.com/be/nl/algemeen)

I didn’t know, but apparently there’s a new Scooby Doo animated movie in the making: https://www.google.be/amp/s/www.superherohype.com/movies/424055-chris-columbus-to-meddle-with-new-scooby-doo-animated-movie/amp
So, that makes sense!

Heidi can deliver some new animals perhaps, that would be nice.

Back to the Future offers some nice possibilities.
The famous car itself could be offer in three variants: normal, futuristic flying car and the far west version.
The same could be said for the main characters, though I'm pretty sure that the first assortment will only involve the first movie which will make a fantastic opportunity for Playmobil to make a 50's diner.
I would love 50's klickies.

Thanks for the news, I will be looking forward to the Delorian . Hopefully it’s not too “fantasized” . It would be nice if it was easily removed of all the back to the future elements to have a stock car.

I also hope the scooby doo theme has the old school look to it , I am not a fan of the new CGI version , before scrappy doo would be great. Looking forward to the mystery machine . Also plenty of monsters that would work in a Halloween theme 🤞

Is there some kind of cartoon about Heidi that I'm not aware of? Because the last movie I saw about Heidi had Shirley Temple in it. I think it will be a nice theme though.

In the past it was owned by a German company, but since a couple of years  the Belgian entertainment group Studio 100 took it over. It resulted in new animated series: https://studio100.com/be/nl/heidi

It does seem random, but I guess the Ghostbusters theme must have sold well? The sets are starting to pop up quite a lot on the second hand market too, much would imply they were being sold to (or bought for) children too.

There's a pretty decent market for adult collectible stuff - Funko Pops for example fly off the shelves. I'm betting PM got a taste of that adult dollar with Ghostbusters so are trying more of this stuff. That it sells to children as well is a bonus.

There is a market for adult collectibles, but it is interesting that they are going back that far. Skipping millennials and going straight for the boomer/gen-x crowd.

That's who's spending the money trying to recapture their childhood (cough cough).  :-[  Millennials have another decade or so before they really begin to pine for what's gone.  :skull:

No idea... THE license is definitely SW, right? Amazingly, the ghostbusters one seemed to do ok.. much to my surprise...

And.. did you see the PRICE of those larger ghostbusters "klickys"? BY THE GODS! 50 EUR!
(they're some sort of limited edition? Not sure... but thank the gods it's ghostbusters!)

Not sure if you pay less for an older license, plus, there was recently a new Ghost Busters movie, so I guess that doesn't count as an old one (anymore). They also seem to have the license for the new Heidi cartoons and not the old ones. Don't forget Dragons and Spirit are recent animation projects.

(they're some sort of limited edition? Not sure... but thank the gods it's ghostbusters!)

Only 12500 per figure will be made according to the new catalogue p32 (http://playmobil.a.bigcontent.io/v1/static/KATALOG_DE_2019_1). But 50 euros is a lot indeed... On the other hand, real Ghost Buster fans will buy those things! (Un)fortunately, I'm not one of them. I only bought the hot dog stand for my circus diorama and because I lost the original version (3848 (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3848)) during my childhood...

Oh, I thought the first Ghostbusters round (“who you gonna call”) was based on the original movie from 1984. Then Geobra did a second round (“the real ghostbusters”) of them based on ???

Same goes for How to train your Dragon 1 🐉 from 2010

I haven’t been around since all this licensing started after Horst kicked the bucket

Ghostbusters mean nothing to me... it was sort of lame even back then, now... interest = 0

Though we did get the car (it IS different from everything else) and a couple more smallish sets - AND the best part - those pups  .. a few times. By far the best of all the ghostbusters theme - AND a small set :o  AND with a beautiful woman..

Also, the klickys are.. BROWN, so...

But 50 is far too much for those - I didn't expect it to be sooo expensive. Wasn't on my list  anyway - though if it was a nicer klicky, I'd like one or two..

The first sets from HTTYD are based on the second movie... I think.

I definitely think that is part of it. Even with the more recent licenses (HTTYD and Spirit), they aren't going for the really big players.

I'm say the Ghostbusters and Back to the Future straddle Gen-X/Millennials - I'm a millennial and I would definitely associated those movies with my youth. I was too young to see either of them at the cinema, but they would both have been shown as 'big' Christmas movies in the early 90s. Baby Boomers would be at least 20 when those movies came out.

They could buy the license and re-release those blatant Indianna Jones sets they made a few years ago (though I suppose the Nazi element would make them a 'real' version taboo)

I'm slightly curious as to what they'll make for s BTTF theme, beyond the car and the figures. But I love that 50s woman they made, so anything along those lines would be great!

Funny that Ghostbusters, Scooby Doo and BTTF licences were all owned by Lego in past few years  - maybe it was a kind of ‘bargain bin’ kind of deal for Playmobil, who knows? Looking forward to Heidi most. The CGI cartoon and the franchise in general is quite big among kids in continental Europe. Same with Maya the bee. Both of them cartoons I used to watch 40 years ago. Vic the Viking would would be a good licence to get, I think. They still show the cartoons in the morning in Belgium.

Ghostbusters and the rest, aimed mostly at American Gen Xrs, who really lapped up the Ghostbusters sets. Even those who wouldn’t know Playmobil from the Popemobile.

Yeah, they were definitely still played well into the 90's, so the upper end of the millennials would remember them. And I do vaguely, but I think of them as family movies that appealed more to the adults at the time than the small children. I'm sure it varies quite a bit by family and age, but my dad would be way more interested in these sets than me, lol. Heidi, outside of the cartoon that hasn't hit these parts,... that's a stretch even for boomers.

Well.. I like the Dragons one - dragons AND vikings =

And though I like the Back To The Future movies.. well... what's THAT gonna be?

I loved Heidi as a small cub, but don't see anything that they could do that doesn't exist now.... Except maybe an ancient wheelchair?

ScoobyDoo was funny SOMETIMES (the old cartoons), but now... like ghostbusters.. meh. (except those hellhounds, of course!)

For the Scooby Doo license, new hair for the characters would be cool, but I think it has the potential for bringing new monsters and new masks for our klickies.
If the Ecto-1 is any indicator, the Mystery Machine will be a cool ride.

If I recall.. Heidi went to her... cousin's home (??) in town... Here she was named "Clara" - the other girl (in a wheelchair!) - I think... So there WAS a town..

And an old woman. But that was like.. over 40 years ago, probably? So, my memories are... fuzzy.  :P

Absolutely dear Tahra

Heidi is taken by her Aunt from the village of Dörfli to stay at Mr Sesemann's mansion in Frankfurt with wheelchair bound Clara.

They are both supervised by the very rigid Miss Rottenmeier and this change of life for Heidi is leading to some pretty hilarious situations in the very formal grand mansion.

Should I still had the space to have my Regent St grand mansion, I would have loved to associate the Victorian theme to Alpine one in order to recreate a Heidi inspired story. Maybe one day  :cloud9:

I cannot wait to see what will come with this Heidi theme as the Frankfurt inspired items will be as close to Victorian as it gets  ;)

I can´t remember much about the Heidi cartoons / series I got to see as a kid, and never read the books.
Sounds it will be very similar to the Spirit Theme, with biggest difference being it is set in the mountains instead of in the prairies... and with (mountain)goats instead of horses?

The one thing I dislike about the license themes is that they never qualify for any of the sales . I placed an order the other day when playmo-us had a valentines sale ($50=15%, $100=20%, $150=25% off) and it only works on regular items. I also don’t like that it would not compound the discount towards “last chance “ or “discontinued” sets. They want them gone so drop the price . If it’s 25% off what’s the point if sales of 25% off regularly come up.
