Medieval dockside
« on: May 28, 2008, 20:47:17 »
I found these wonderful pictures at http://www.playclicks.com/playforos/index.php?topic=964.0.

The diorama is titled "Bishop's Lynn 1230", and portrays the English coastal port, along with Viking boats and figures mixed in with knight theme houses and people.

I like it because it shows a way in which different eras/themes can be combined (e.g. pirates-jungle or Vikings-Indians), and it's a fact that in the 13th century Bishop's Lynn was importing timber fom Scandinavia - and what do you think the Scandinavians would have looked like - Vikings, of course! (and still do - I married one).

Anyhoo, this section of the forum is for asking questions about parts, and mine is ... what are the pier pieces used to such good effect in the attached photos? I thought they might be from a Western set, but I can't find any that match. Also the steps. I love the idea of creating a docks like this (there's another picture set where steck castle pieces, built tower-like on their side, are used as brick docks and piers, which also work beautifully - good architectural innovation).

So if anybody has any clues they could share with me, I'd be thankful indeed. (I'll add more pictures in extra posts.)

Wonderful diorama!

The parts come from one of the Safari buildings.

They first appeared in set 3433 but were issued again more recently in sets 4064 and 5759.

With luck, you should be able to order these still from the Direct Sevice. :)

That's just a square Steck tower laid down.

It's nice to see Svea's town again...
