Title: Wildlife 5415 Gorilla's and Okapi's
Post by: conniefrere on January 01, 2013, 09:07:08
It's been a while since I've posted anything on the forum, but when I bought this set yesterday I thought: 'Let's make a review for the forum, especially for the okapi's ofcourse. I think it's a lovely set, as all the safari sets are. To bad the WWF logo is not on these sets here in Holland, we have a zebra instead. The sets from Germany with the WWF logo could become collectors items. I'm already thinking of buying some sets just over the border in Germany.

Anyhow, here the boxfront, back and side is shown. I do like the sidepicture were the gorilla and here baby is shown, just had to share. (To bad I always have to laugh when I see that gorilla......due to he klick klong pictures )

Here's the content of the box. A small green 'rock' plate, some ferns and a tree. The camera is nice, did not have one of these.

Here we have the baseplate assembled with the trees and ferns.

And here the okapi's in side view with the klicky to compare the height of the mother okapi and her young.

The accessories shown.

The animals.

And the complete set in action. What an award winning documentary this would be. Filming both a gorilla and her baby with some okapi's aside.

Thanks for the review and pics

Need to get a couple of those sets from Germany. THAT is what the PCC should do...

I wonder if the okapis will appear in add ons or something. Shame about the gorillas being there - we have enough of those.

Another very cool set.
Just by seeing your pictures, I'm inspired to create a few scenarios.
I can't wait for this series to pop in stores.

Yes, I just don't like the combination of the clothes with that haircolor...

Thanks for the review, I am dying to get this set! I was particularly curious to see the height of the okapi because it looked a bit small, so thanks for that pic. It's bigger than it looked on the box art, so I'm glad of that. Great review.

great new set and I too like the new okapi. I also would have bought the set through the pcc if the WWF was available.

Thanks for deciding to review the set

I like the set and we will be getting many of them but why did they have to make a new rock color again, green, very odd color that will not match any others

I like the green rocks, it's like they're covered in moss or something. I think they're meant to represent a grassy mountain, though.

Looks like a nice little set nice combination of rocks and greenery, the animals look good and looks like you get some good equipment with all the accessories

Yes, I just don't like the combination of the clothes with that haircolor...

It's an alright figure  not overly keen on the trousers, I got a few with the WWF logo on them in a group set mine looks to have pinker hair than in the photos, if anyone would like a couple of the figures with the logo let me then I've got 2 very similar women and a guy with a checked shirt and jacket I don't mind them but, I don't really need them in my collection cheers.

I have one now, and I've been trying to decide what I think of the size. I have stood close to a couple of them, and they are the size of large horses. I should take a picture if it next to a PM horse for comparison.

hello conniefrere,
thanks for sharing!

....if its not too much of a trouble, I have been searching for the right PM part to make a quiver (box) carried by samurai armies
...are you able to strap that oblong box to her back (I fear its a bit too wide)....here's a picture of the box I am still searching for ;
(sorry for digressing)

I have not seen an Okapi in real life and untill bb said they are as big or bigger than a horse I too thought they were smaller. The one Goebra made looks good but the size is more deer like than horse like. Is there a pygmy okapi? there is in playmobil  :P

The PM okapi's back reaches to a person's shoulder, so that's quite right.
They've got a breeding program with okapis in the zoo nearby here: three babies born last year

There's a picture of one next to a human here: http://www.bonoboincongo.com/2007/09/17/i-remember-okapi-first-epulu-next-lomami/ They are also very wide and sturdily built, weighing up to 700 pounds, so it is a large animal. The playmobil one just doesn't give the same impression to me. But I'm still glad to have it, it's better than not having one at all!

Yeah I guess they should be a bit more bulky, now I see the picture.

bb, I do not know much about Okapi so I was wondering what theme or other animals do they belong with? I would guess safari w/elephants and zebras

The Okapi is the closest relative to the giraffe. They are an African forest dweller so gorillas mainly, and leopards, also forest elephants

Not yet. Zookeeper was kind enough to help me get them.

Ras, as Tim says, deep forest animals, so they wouldn't mix with savannah animals. But gorillas and chimps would both share their habitat, as well as crocs and hippos in the rivers and streams. And of course snakes. Also, okapis are very solitary, so no need for a herd. You won't find two together unless it's mother and baby.

REALLY? Darn. I wanted another couple of them.

(then again, apparently against nature, my rhino herd seems happy..  :-[  )

In captivity they do well in small groups of two or three.
