Title: bowsprit color on 5135 pirate ship
Post by: Kenny on December 31, 2012, 13:51:28
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!   <*)

A few months ago I purchased on eBay an old (unopened) 3286/3940 pirate ship for my son's Christmas present.  On Christmas day we excitedly opened it up and started to put it together, only to find that the bowsprit was missing.

So I'm going to call DS to see if they have any replacements of this part (30218840).

In case this part is out of stock, I may try to order the bowsprit from 5135 (part 30228602).  But before I do, I have a question for all the pirate collectors here:  is the bowsprit on pirate ship 5135 identical in shape and color to the bowsprit on 3286/3940?

They appear to be the same part.  However, on 3286/3940 the bowsprit is a dark grey plastic, but I can't tell from photos if the bowsprit from 5135 is also dark grey.  Or black.

Can those of you with both ships give me a quick answer before I call DS?  Is the bowsprit on 5135 dark grey or black in color??  (In other words, is it identical to the same part from 3286/3940 or not?)

Thanks!

The bowsprite on the 5135 has exactly the same shape as the one from 3940 (US 3286), but it comes in a very darkbrown  colour instead of darkgrey.
So, if you'd want a colourmatch with the ship's masts, you'll have to order the 5135's masts as well. Or you could search for a 2nd-hand 3940's grey bowsprite...

Thanks for the information, Hadoque.  The database lists both as being "black".

I've called DS and they don't have either part, so I've posted a request for a dark grey bowsprit on the trading post forum.

Perhaps someone will have an extra one they can sell to me.

Uh oh - the practice of guessing colours from the instruction sheets seems to have failed me. Hadoque, or someone, would you mind posting a photo of both so we can see the difference?
