Title: 40 years of Playmobil exhibition in Speyer
Post by: Birdie on April 17, 2014, 06:57:09
On the Playmobil Factory Tour, a day trip to Speyer was included, so we could see the exhibition of 40 years of Playmobil.

Because it was a 2,5 hour drive from the FunPark in Zirndorf, Playmobil had organized a bus and they even had packed lunches for us. I felt like I was going on the best school trip ever  ;D

This is the entrance to the historical museum in Speyer:

It was huge! There were two floors of Playmobil expo, and there's a beautiful sunlit hall in the heart of the building with a glass roof.

There were so many diorama's that I made pictures for hours  :). There will be a lot of pictures in this topic, and I'm only showing the things I liked especially.

Here we go!

The museum guide explained that collector Brubil from Belgium made a diorama based on this depiction of thousands of pro-nationalists in 1832 who had a big gathering at the ruins of Hambach Castle. They were inspired by the French Revolution and wanted Germany to be united.

The details on this diorama were amazing!!

Brubil also made an Egyptian diorama. You need to see these pictures in a long row from left to right actually:

Unbelievable  :) There's an acurate depiction of beer-making in ancient Egypt, I love the harbour with the lighthouse and that palace is incredible

On the other side of the room, there was a huge Roman army diorama. Maybe one of the fellow visitors remembers which collector made this one? I'm afraid I forgot to take pictures of the entire thing, it was pretty impressive. I did find this picture though  :):

This image was pretty cool too: Playmobil's daily production and its vertical take-off

In the second hall, there was one of the biggest diorama's I've ever seen: a dinosaur theme with clicky explorers. It was made by a family of Playmo-collectors.

There's an explorer climbing the mountain to get to the eggs of the pterodactylus, so cool  8-)

That was Tiermann's avatar getting eaten alive by scorpions  ;D

The T-rex is feeding his young there (it's hard to see because of the foliage)

Giant cob-web!

That river scene is awesome  :inlove:

Next, there were nearly ten different circus tents from one collector. He had the early circus in orange and different colours, from exclusives and export exclusives (Spain, Brasil...). This is his Romani circus diorama  :):

In the passage to another hall, the ceiling was decorated with clickies  ;D

Another lovely idea was the 'search for the fairy tale scenes' diorama.

Gorgeous windmill!!!

There were custom clickies with a cat head (Puss in Boots), a goat's head (The wolf and the seven young goats), we found Rumpelstilskin spinning gold thread, mother Hulda... We had fun with this one  ;D

lol  (she really did take pictures of allmost every square inch  :P )

I remember the guide telling us, that Roman army diorama was made for or a local German tv show/programme. Geobra® specially made the green plume for this show. It looked awesome.

Haha, as you can see, I most certainly did  ;D

This was a little diorama of Noah's ark, beautifully done

And one with the old Eskimo theme:

A bit further there was a Viking diorama with many scenes and lots going on:

On the other side of the room: another big surprise! A huge pirate themed diorama:

It was difficult to get a decent picture of, but I loved the boar ruining the fence and the woman with her broom running out to chase it off  :)

Moving on to my absolute favourite in Speyer: Elise's two Victorian diorama's. Unbelievable  :inlove:

The first one is a Victorian city street and park diorama. I can only imagine how much work went into making all of this.

The other one, also made by Elise, is this Victorian harbour scene:

The animal wall was pretty neat:

And then the exhibition went on downstairs. All around the museum there were beautiful enlarged pictures of little Playmobil scenes that were also featered on Facebook. I think the lady who made them was on the tour with us.

This is one I particularly liked  :):

The entrance had two smaller space themed diorama's, a modern version and an old style one:

This was nice to see again: on the Luxplaymodays fair in August there was a big Alpine themed diorama with a huge custom made lodge. There was a smaller version of the diorama in Speyer:

I'm still puzzled as to how the diorama builder managed to make such a big roof with smaller parts and make it look so smooth.

And the aqua-world zoo was breathtaking!

And yes, the Japanese exclusive roller coaster was there  ;D

At the end of the exhibition, there were plenty of modern themed diorama's too, with city action themes (police, rescue, cargo...) but I didn't make a lot of pictures there.
I liked this one because of the first hospital set:

Right, that was it  ;)

Afterwards we had some time to explore the historical city of Speyer.

We had ice cream and sat in the sun in the park: perfect day  ;D

That looks great. Thank you for letting us see the highlights of this great exhibition! Really impressive.

I am inspired by the use of all the vegetation.  Love the broomstick bushes and I saw the Bremen town musicians again.

That sealife park is really cool and I also like the Victorian town.
