Title: Which remote control?
Post by: Wolf Knight on September 02, 2010, 18:03:13
After leaving work I went to a big toy shop in the city centre where I knew they had this: 4856 - RC-Modul-Set Plus (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4856) I was hoping to get one of the new fire engines, either 4820 or 4821 and combine it with this remote controller just for greater fun... Unfortunately, they had none of the fire engines left!!!

This was a bit frustrating but what followed was more confussing. As I was looking at 4856, I noticed an older remote control set but did not memorise the set number, but the device was actualy this one: 7578 - Radio Control Module (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=7578)

I was very puzzled as I had not seen the second set before. Their voltage is the same, but could not find anything written on the boxes as far as range is concerned.... The black boxes are the same in both sets, (are they for batteries and programs btw) with a few minor differences...

Anybody knows which remote controller would be better and if there are any differences?

As for the fire engines, I am revisiting Gordon's reviews on both as I am trying to find out which would suit me best...

The 7578 is the old controller. On the controller are two adjusters one will centre the wheels so that when the control handle is in the centre position the car will go straight. The other can be adjusted so the when the control handle is in the centre position the car will not move forward or backward.
The new one 4856 dose not have these adjusters on the controller. Instead there are small leavers on the motor block to do this manually.
Either of the motor packs will fit any of the cars, lorries, buses etc that are designed to for R.C.

I think the fastest radio controlled playmobil vehicle would be a special issue Batmobile!!!

Unfortunately in this case, playmobil does not do under licence products and thats good!!!

HI

I know the old set takes a lot more batteries for the controller. I have not used it in a while but it is like 8 AA's . The other difference Walt explained about the adjustments for the servos.  MacGayver knows the technical side of the differences and there was a tread about it but I can not find it right now.

I was trying to search if one existed before posting this question but could not find it! More details in a while!!!

I do not know if I should tell you this. The old set hand controller with 8 batteries in it was occasionally giving me trouble as some times not all the batteries would make contact when put in.
I therefore cut out the slots so that I could fit in a PP3 9volt battery and wired on to the contacts at each end a holder for the battery.
It works O.K. and is easier to change when I have the cars at exhibitions.

Look forward to seeing this, Panos.  I have the RC but haven't had time to try it out with the 4820 and 4821 yet.  They are about the only Playmo left in the house at the moment, and they will be in store some time next week.

Thanks for the info Walts-Trains! I bought the 4320 RC after all!

Am I correct in thinking that the 3169 tour bus can be operated by RC.  If so how do I find out what I would need for this?

You are right and the set Panos has been using will do.

If we can get together for your Playmobil display next year, you could crash the tour coach and I could send the fire brigade to free the passengers.  Hopefully, all will be uninjured as there isn't an RC ambulance.

Hi Elaine,

the 4320 RC module can fit in the 3169 tour bus!! The module comes with instructions of how it can fit in 11 vehicles!!! So, you'll just need the module!!!

One think though, it is quite noisy...

That sounds a great idea Gordon, I'll hold you to that!

So are my two boys!!  With a bit of luck it will drown out the theme tune from Junior's Wii game, not to mention Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga!!

It's a deal, but give plenty of notice, please, so we can book Fluff in at a cattery of his choice.

I'm confused. I was going through this topic and[urlhttp://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=5603.0] this review[/url] and see two setnumbers used for the same items:

4320 rc  (http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4320)
4856 rc + (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4856)

What is the difference between these two?

4856 is a newer version, although I'm not sure what the difference(s) may be, if there are any.

On the Playmobil website in Germany you can read about the 4856 RC plus
"to upgrade all RC-compatible PLAYMOBIL vehicles (requires 1 x 9 V battery and 4 x 1.5V AA batteries). Identical to Compact RC Module Set (Art. 4320), remote control with a greater range."

Unfortunately, I must disappoint you:
The old RC control is better than the new (4320 or 4856).
Yes, you need 8 AA batteries for the RC control and 4 AA batteries for the motor.

But 3670 controls softer/finer, you can go slower and more exactly (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3670) (4320 and 4856: only 3 steps) and the vehicles have a smaller turning circle.
