Could you feel anything, or only got to see that there was ash all around?
(Well, maybe you won't be able to answer right now ...)

Good luck,
take care.

You'll be in my thoughts.

Gus

Thanks for your good thoughts, Gus!

We actually feel minor earthquakes fairly often here. So, when the dome collapsed over on Montserrat we didn't feel anything that seemed very different. It was only when the sky became dark and ash began to appear everywhere did we realize that something really terrible was happening.

Click HERE then click on "Activity This Week" for the latest report. The last photograph seems to have been taken about eight days before the BIG collapse!

They estimated that the cloud of ash erupted to a height of more than 12 kilometres (about 40,000 feet).

I will let everyone know when we can set out again for our "on locaion" photo expedition.

All he best,
Richard

Actually, Richard, that could be really cool--if your Playmobil collection were to go the way of Pompeii, future historians would rediscover that great toy.

The tricky part would be maintaining your pose while the stuff rained down.  We'd want archaeologists to realize the toy had an adult community.  But looking at drawings Peter Connolly made of Pompeii's last hours leaves me to believe the stuff could be uncomfortable.  Maybe you could impersonate yourself with a store mannequin and give it a fake beard before catching the boat for Florida.

Thanks for offering me a "way out" with the self-impersonation scenario! ...  :klickywink:

However, the detectives from the insurance companies would probably catch up with me ...

Thanks for thinking of me ...  8}

All the best,
Richard

DINOS ON LOCATION

The volcanic ash seems to be gone for now. And, the weather cooperated a bit today. Thanks to the break in the weather, we were able to test our expedition vehicle. (You didn't think that I was going to walk ... did you?)

We took some pictures of our AWD/AT amphibian. (Photos are attached.)

We also took a couple of photos of the trailer and cage. We haven't yet decided whether or not we'll actually be hauling the trailer through the jungle. We may just leave it at our base camp.

If you look at the photos carefully, you will see one of the first of our "prehistoric" trees.

NOTE: Andi (Customizer) did a great review of this set. Click HERE!

This set has lots of parts!

The Trailer and Cage are interesting. Especially the Cage ... it uses the same faux Steck connectors as the Tree House (3217/5746). Click HERE and also look at the attached photo.

DINOS ON LOCATION

The AWD/AT Amphib is really a great vehicle!

We're all looking forward to taking the little amphib into the jungle. Hopefully, we'll be able to start out sometime later this week or the first of next week.

We've also been thinking that before we begin our expedition, it might be a good idea to fly over the jungle area that we're going to explore. That way we'll at least have some idea of what to expect.

If the weather holds, we may have some aerial photos to show everyone soon ...

DINOS ON LOCATION

REAL DINOSAURS?

What are the chances of our encountering "real" dinosaurs on our expedition?

There are more than 7,000 islands in the Caribbean! Click HERE.
Many of these islands are uninhabited and unexplored!

Scientists speculate that the Caribbean islands may have once formed a "land bridge" between North and South America. Click HERE.
(To support this theory, similar dinosaurs have been found on both continents.)

New evidence suggests that a giant asteroid may have struck the Earth near Colombia. Click HERE for an article from the New York Times.

If the Caribbean Islands were a land bridge used by the dinosaurs and if an asteroid did hit Colombia 65 million years ago, there is a possibility that some of the dinosaurs may have been stranded when the Caribbean land bridge was separated into more than 7,000 islands.

On our expedition, we may actually visit some unexplored islands. Will we encounter any decendants of the dinosaurs that once roamed the Earth?
