Title: Woodland Theme
Post by: David on November 17, 2005, 11:09:42
These sets will be available in Germany just before Christmas, I´ve heard, but it says in the pics 2/2006, so I´m not sure.

I found this by trawling another board. It was posted by someone called Matchboxluc ;D

I'm lovin' those badgers and raccoons!

Really pleased that Playmobil are adding some completely new species to the animal range. 8-)

I like all the new animals, and the klicky dressed for a hike in the woods.  It's probably good it's not coming out until February  8}

I'm glad to see the Wild Game Feeder (formerly found in 3692 and as an add-on 7097) available once again. I'm not too fond of any of the others, but brand new sets aren't my thing. ;) That cottage just looks too much like Lego.

Ah...I respectfully (and smittenly) disagree Robbie. This is one of the 1st new themes to excite me for some time. I wasn't crazy about the Barbarians or the Cargo Ship and only a few of the beach items and some new fairy tale accessories...but I love this theme! It's the 1st "modern" theme to fit my part of the world (the Pacific NW, America)...I even love the logging truck (though not fond of logging itself).  These sets look like what I see when we camp and hike.  8-)

I started to list my "must haves" but realized I'd listed them all so...Hmmm...MBL...wanna share a box? ;)  (Poor Guarrenzino! I mean, Lucky Guarrenzino!)  ;D

P.S. Thanks for posting the photos David...I'd just seen them once. Who is MatchBoxLuc? Interesting ID...

Looks like another expensive Christmas for the family... buying me these sets.  ;D ;D ;D

At last badgers! That lovely tree next to the foresters house! The foxes, woodpeckers.. aaah. all of it!!  This is a winner!

It was kind of funny: before I posted this in the german forum everybody was grumping about the then apparent lack of novelties. Then a german forum member asked (almost begged) me to post it 8-). It has become one of the top-threads over there (I wonder why... ;D )

My guess is mid 2006; I 've heard that releases for the US are always several months later than the German release date (some say even a year later; I hope that US people are patient ::) ).

Now, now Serenity...we are very patient people. Afterall, we are "staying the course."

Wait a minute...did he say mid 2006? It's a conspiracy! They have playmo of mass desire...let's invade!

I AM GOING to be patient.

I know that they will eventually arrive on our shores, for the sets are truely placed in the American North West

But it just kills me to have to wait for them, when others can get them in the next few months.   :'(

Not a theme that I will collect but I do like the look of them.

The only 2 things that are must haves are the Badgers and woodpecker, they will fit right into an Olde English forest scene.

In the better quality pictures at PLaymo-Portal http://www.playmo-portal.com/viewtopic.php?t=4553&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=60 (http://www.playmo-portal.com/viewtopic.php?t=4553&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=60) you can see the interior in a smaller inset. There is a single bed on the left and a small loft in the gable with a rope ladder up. It's SysX so I would add on a section of floor with one of the store windows as a picture window and the fireplace from the new Palace kitchen set to gather round. :)

The little stove was first released as part of an advent calendar set many years ago. It's a really nice piece, very versatile. 8-)

Well, there's only one way to know for sure! ;)  *sigh* I suppose I have to buy the new sets now!  ;D

Yup, there's a little pot-bellied stove in the caboosed to keep the tramp and signal dude warm. Beds too. It's all very cozy.

P.S. Thanks for fixing my broken link. That feels better.

I have several different pot belly stoves.
They are all the same  EXCEPT for how they are topped after they go through the roof.

The stove is the same as the western caboose.
The caboose also has a tea kettle, a place to sit up under the raised roof,
and a built in table and bench.
It is VERY cool.

The one of the guns officially is called from Playmobil (DS) "narcotic gun" (the one also used in the Safari sets); so I think at last this one shouldn't hurt the animals   :)

And the other one is -- for sure -- for keeping away evil animals (e.g. the squirrels  ;)) from the furry critters ...

BTW, the sets are actually out there in Germany. I must say, that I had my doubts on this and that they actually will be available still before christmas, but all the rumours are absolutely true. They seems to come from a very well informed source. Today I went to a near Toys'R'Us shop and got the 4203, 4204, 4205, 4207, and 4208 (i.e. all but not the both sets with the vehicles ... maybe I take them later too) ... aehm, yes, I couldn't resist.

My wife again rolled eyes but also couldn't resist to see me that happy  ;D

They are absolutely lovely. The new stuff is really great (the different colored birds, the badgers, the raccoons, the large choped wood pile, the woodbecker -- although I already got this from the new vedes advents calendar --, the new dog type, ... and, and, and ... I can not mention all these little new details).

@Tim, for sure, I will send you the new desired numbers (I assume you are interested in them ... if you didn't have them already)  :) Just let me play a little bit with them before I'm starting to catalogue them (i.e. scanning the instructions for my personal archive and put down them into my collection list).

Kind regards

Jochen

Uh, sorry, didn't noticed that there was a question about some furniture (btw, any questions are welcome regarding these sets) ... Ok, I found it. Yes Tim, you're right. That's a gun rack with space for two guns. I didn't know, if this has already been in some other set (for me, it looks new; I only know the gun rack from the North States General which has -- as far as I remember -- space for four guns and has no lock).

Aehm, yes, could be. I've been away for quite awhile, seems that they have been re-educated  ;D (and to be honest, I never had understand why the evil appears in the body of a squirrel ... ok, yes if it has been a rabbit, especially a white, but a squirrel ...)

Your photo remindes of a trip to Montreal some years ago. It was round about Christmas/New Year  (icecold!) when a walked along on of the central roads and passed by a small park where dozens of squirrels has been sitting at the ground looking for some food (in the same way your photo shows).
Title: Re: Woodland Theme

One thing I'm wondering with these sets:
I'm no biologist or animal expert, but could it be that the raccoon and badger are half/third that size of a beaver (cf. 3227) or same size as the skunks? I know, that PM does not always care about the exact scale, but I think in this case the difference in size is quite obvious. (Ok, in understand this with birds, because the songbirds should also be playable without a pair of tweezers, but larger animals?)
Title: Re: Woodland Theme
Post by: Psyche on December 11, 2005, 16:47:51
Fun facts for a Sunday morning... 8}

Raccoons Size: body:41 - 60 cm (16 - 23 1/2 in). Weight: 5.4 to 15.8 kg (12-35 lbs., 25 lbs.
average)

Badgers: The badger is a stocky animal, being about 750mm in length (30 inches).
The weight of an adult badger varies throughout the year - depending on how much fat it has laid down for the winter months. In spring an adult badger will have an average weight of  8 to 9 kg (17-19 lbs.)  rising to 11 to 12 kg (24-26.5 lbs.) in autumn.

Beavers: The Beaver reaches the weight of about 27-32 kg (60-70 pounds.) The total length of an adult Beaver is about 41-46 inches.

So, yeah, it looks like Beavers are pretty big compared to Badgers and Raccooms (though I've seen some mightly large raccoons in my time.)  Badgers look longer in photos because they have quite long tails.

Thanks for the gun rack photos! :) And yes, white rabbits are rather scary...especially with those pink eyes!  :o

Thank you very much for this investigation. So from a scale perspective the PM world seems ok again. -- Hm, I thought, I have seen some beaver in the Stuttgart zoo some years ago and this was not longer than about 50 cm ... I have to check this ... oh, I mixed this up: it was an otter (although I have also made a photo of a beaver, but the one I had in mind was the otter). Ok, from physiognomy the otter looks different, but I had this picture in mind where the little guy was swimming in the water ...  the more I think about this, the more I couldn't understand how I mixed up those both animals  :-[ ... tz, tz, tz ... anyhow, before I become totally off topic, I think I will close this episode.

Would that be via me?? or did someone else clue you in?

I can't wait to get my hands on the lodge no matter how big or small the actual building is!  I also realised I like the raccoons a lot.  Playmobil is doing a great job with their animals anymore.  I just wish they would be more detailed with the fox.. he doesn't even have different color eyes.

How about we all chip in and buy a nice ocean going yacht to ferry members--and especially playmo--back and forth from the countries of release to the countries of yearning.  :yup:

Maybe something like this (http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3055.htm) ?

Good Idea, Psyche

Who would want to be the Captain?   Richard?

Yes, he'd be excellent. But I was actually thinking we have a guinea pig as captain! (Given our impetus is the woodland sets.)  Or would you rather join me as Assistant Chief Petty Officer in charge of holding down deck chairs?  8-)

Of course! I've found that certain Woodland Theme boxes, when stacked, make nice deck tables for holding drinks.  *she says trying desparately to stay on topic*  :-[

(A rum idea if there ever was one :P)

Hunters, even when they´re all at sea, always carry a hip flask.

There, now we`ve been steered back on topic. I´m off for a drop of yo ho ho!

 ;D

I'm trying to set them up now; quite fiddly at times 8} , but they look sooo nice.
The forest house set has 2 rope ladders; the leafs and branches of the trees have small pins to hold the birds/squirrels. The house is indeed system-x; The ground plate has the possibility of extension (there are connector holes at the rear edge). The house has a partial living quarters (reminiscent of a summer cottage). In spite of some people finding it a bit disappointing as for possibilities, I think it is quite lovely.
The jeep is really neat with swinging rigid front axle and small trailer with fully articulated connection between the jeep and trailer.
The tractor has a moveable hood; the logging trailer has a steerable front axle with fully articulated triangle connection to the tractor. The logs consist of 15 segments (each has 2 parts) that can be connected together indefinitely. The set standard is 5 logs. The trailer has 2 metal chains and an elastic rope to secure the logs (the chains are on hooks that can slide up and down vertically along four guide rails. The trailer has rubberlike tires.
The oak tree has three shades of foliage and a leafless branch as well.
So much for the preliminary description; I'll try to make some pictures tomorrow.

Today I saw that the woodland sets are available in the Netherlands....and I'm glad I bought them in Germany! :o
4207 is €64.95 (€39.99 in Germany)
4206, 4208 and 4209 are €28.95 (€19.99)
4204 is €18.95 (€13.49)
4203 and 4205 are €8.95 (€5.99)
8}
If you are buying the whole range, it is cheaper to go to Germany and get them over there... These price differences are insane! :hmm:
