It looks quite big!

I wanted to get the farm advent calendar this year, but it's out of stock on the US website.

Not last year - my photo-a-day then was a bust. At least 2 years ago. I have 3 calendars this year  8} & haven't decided yet what to do.

Or puny.

I will attempt to pass on these system WHY buildings (they do look gorgeous all together though.. )

I think its really good they included a real building to display all the advent calendar bits on, instead of the usual cardboard creation, which is often just so.... disposable! But the building does bump the price up a bit. Luckily I got this as a birthday present back in the summer from my GLW (Mrs. GrahamB as they would have called her in my parents' generation), so I have had chance to take photos in plenty of time!

Funny coincidence: I got hold of a 20% reduction code for the Belgian webshop and I treated myself to a big order of these system WHY?! buildings, including this very calendar.

The building looks really cute, thanks for the crisp pictures!

She now at least has somewhere to sit - and somthing to watch (even if it is her own reflection).

:lmao: (I haven't decided yet if I want to know exactly what you man by that. )

Very nice, Graham - also the refection on the mirror is very good posing!  :)

A curious thing on the side: I have no interest in make-up parts, but that piece would do great as a color box, preferably with other color-stickers, maybe applied on just one side... I wondered if it already existed with that function, in any other sets, so I checked on playmodb but found just another adventcalender with the same make-up box. But it's cute, so I checked for the part to maybe customise a color-box myself, and guess how the part is called in German: "Farbkasten", which translates to: "color box".   ;D
Title: Re: Advent 2020

Long ago there was a "tupperware" box made as a color box in the .. xmas advents? bunnies? Something like that.

Though I have no use at all for makeup in the meatworld, I do like the playmomakeup  :P

(well, ok,  had some use for it on my college years, to paint the... freshmen? freshpeople? not sure of the proper word - 1st yearlings!  >:D )

She can't reach her own mouth to apply lippy (lipstick), so she has to put it on her reflection.

You and Tahra are correct, the paintbox (https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-51-6320) is in the schools and other sets; it's the same mould but in white, with different stickers.

Though I have no use at all for makeup in the meatworld, I do like the playmomakeup  :P

Me too!

Thanks Graham and Tahra: I forgot to look for the box in other colors  :-[  I blame the late hour and the fact that my knowledge of "city life" items is usually a disaster.
Conclusion: I should buy more city life sets, of course.  ;D
Title: Re: Advent 2020
Post by: tahra on December 04, 2020, 11:22:11
Actually, what I mean is the common "tupperware" box here: https://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4450 (for example)

With those stickers, it's meant as a "paint box"...
Title: Re: Advent 2020

Yes, of course. Those too are paintboxes, tahra!

Great addition   They did a good job with all those make-up items.

I also love the fact that there are people out there who also know about obscure paint boxes in Playmobil sets  ;D I still remember being thrilled about the paint box in the bunny sets that were needed for egg-painting, I think those were the first ones available.
(not counting the painter's palette from the Victorian theme)

I have issues with the girl's red dress! It's gorgeous and I love the idea that kids can be dressed now. But they put a girl with pigtails on either side of her head together with a dress that is incredibly difficult to get on, and off. I STRUGGLED, and I'm a Playmobil veteran! Why did they do this?!

I tried it and got really stuck- I couldn't get it over her hands with them raised up. My wife suggested putting it on feet first (with the arms down), which was MUCH easier and the pigtails didn't get in the way at all. My wife is a Polly Pocket* veteran, a different skill set was needed here! Should have been in the instruction booklet  :(

I like the new girl a lot, she's also very fancy. But now the guy looks even more underdressed.

(Warm champagne is unacceptable! For the sake of French culture, someone has do something! ;) )

Now that a second fancily dressed lady has shown up, I am beginning to form a theory about what is going on here... :sherlock:

Again, the gold pot and the dark green bow are unique to this set.

It makes a great talking point while everyone tries to work out what Macruran is thinking!

No unique parts today. The two light blue inserts for the wine glass are different shades of blue in my set, but they have the same part number, so this must be due to normal variation in plastic colours.

I really like the cookies... but when I looked, they were expensive as Tartarus..

The cookies are cute. I wonder what kind of blue cocktail that is.  ???

I was wondering that too. Is it meant to be water?

Surely they aren't drinking curacao straight? If they are, they better send the kid to the sitters.
Title: Day 24: Christmas Eve

Posting this early today as I will be busy this evening....

The tree has 31 decorations (I had 2 spares). It was a fiddly job to fit them all to the tree! All four types of decoration are unique to this set.

The complete scene:

A few pictures of the boxes (embargoed until 24 December due to spoiler potential)

(I opened the box in late November to assemble all the parts and take the photos, so I have been feigning surprise at the opening of each window for the last 24 days!)

There are two instruction booklets, though only part 2 is shown on the playmobil websites (the house building instructions are part 1).

There were extra parts in some bags:

Thanks for looking and commenting. Have a very happy Christmas!

There are a couple different sets of decorations in other sets, so one could potentially have a custom decorated tree!

And with that, here is my Year of the Three Nativities:

Yes I know the one on the right is missing the crib, I couldn't find it :(
