Title: 3283 Alien Prison Pod
Post by: Wolf Knight on May 02, 2010, 06:41:00
Hello all,

Bill encouraged me to get this set so that I could use it in a playmobil Star Trek project!!
I have to say that i had no regard for this space theme whatsoever...It was so alien to me...
But now I have to say that some of the sets do look like the alien environments used in the Original Star Trek series.

Well, here is an overall picture of the set and its box...
(http://img38.imagefra.me/img/img38/6/5/2/baldthar/f_grpn3qo1m_873e051.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)

The prison pod is actually a holding cell that can close and open like one of them killer flowers .. it actually reminded me of a Poison Ivy flower from Batman...
(http://img40.imagefra.me/img/img40/6/5/2/baldthar/f_grpn3qosm_51b3288.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)

(http://img38.imagefra.me/img/img38/6/5/2/baldthar/f_grpn3qowm_5872492.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)

The mecanism is simple...you see that green leaffy tongue in front and below of the yellow holding cell?? Its other side ends at the back of the cell and slides back and forth opening and closing the cell!!!

The alien guards are awesome too!!!
(http://img38.imagefra.me/img/img38/6/5/2/baldthar/f_grpn3qotm_4d00da6.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)

They are actually playmobil kids repainted...they actually look like the short scavanger aliens in Star Wars, the ones with the hoods and the glowing eyes...

Playmobil used the cloaks from the dwarf gift sets form them and a similar klicky version can be found in 5741 Golden Sword Guardian.... Although the short guy there does not look like this one here...

Great review Wolf Knight :)9

Never really looked at this set before but I don't think it is really my cup of tea - those alien guards look very scary :0

I do like the look of the flowers and grass though, and the way the big flower type pod closes is quite cool 8-)

Thanks for a great review Panos,  Junior has this set but I must admit I had never really taken much notice of it, but like Flatcat says the flowers and greenery are great.

Boom! Boom!

Great review Wolf Knight although I must admit the alien theme had no interest for me at all.  It's one case where Playmobil's ideas fell flat and the theme was quickly withdrawn.  When the new sets were shown at the toy fair they were warmly received by the wholesale and retail traders, but in the shops they were largely shunned by the buyers.  Maybe they are future much sought after sets and will some day, MISB, go for a fortune on eBay.

Great review Wolf Knight, that theme sure is out of the mainstream! Reminds me also of the old 'Lost in Space' series (danger, danger).

Maybe it will playmofire...i have seen a 3079 playstation on ebay being sold for a 110 GBP....Still, all the parts are too...alien....to be playmobil. Since they never had any impact on me whatsoever, I am not up to buying any more sets of this theme and i am not in any way a fan..(hmm judging from 3283...never say never....)..well maybe i could use some of the aliens for my projects...Nothing compares to the old playmospace...it was still such a romantic time for the exploration of space....

I hope that i will not be further addicted Bill...two are enough for a project...and as i wrote above...the other sets are...too alien.... 8} 8} 8} 8} 8} 8} 8} 8} 8} BUT they are after all playmobil....

The funniest thing is, that flat alien hair are coming off the same way as the regular klicky hair do...

The whole new space theme was kind of crazy.  8}
There has been many nice and cool electronics, parts, items and klickys, but all in all it was pretty much doomed to become a big desaster for playmobil.
This set is in any case one of the coolest. :)
Unfortunately, the little aliens were solely in this set. I would have loved to see them in different flavors...

Thanks for this nice review and reminding of this nice set. :)

best,
socrates

You know Panos, I just realized something,...I thought your alien prisoner guards were suspended in mid air until I saw the glass surface being used as a platform! That may be a future cool special effect in your photo stories!

Bill, I thought that maybe Panos had done the glass "suspension effect" on purpose!

It's very science fantasy! And, it really looks great!

Thanks for a splendid review, Panos.

I was fortunate to be able to get all the "alien" sets when they came out. (One of the benefits of being an old fart!) ... (http://www.gardenwargamer.com/images/oldman.gif) And, I always loved them ... (http://www.gardenwargamer.com/images/smilehearts.gif)

Regardless of what others may have thought, I really think Playmobil did a wonderful job creating their "Aliens" ...

Great review and pics . Its as hame really Playmobil never got it right with reference to a playmo space theme, except the very first one which back then was very popular, successfull and had a good level of realism. Surely it cant be that difficult to get it wright again , the latest space theme with the thieves and aliens etc etc had some nice designs but overall - for me- didint have it.. nothinh ever appeared in the DS catalogues really , goes to tell you what a commercial flop these have been

Of course if there was a Playmobil star wars ... Playmobil woudl probably make billions, can you , can you ,can imagine a 300-400 strong army of klicky stormtroopers   for example

Playmo X-wing, tie fighters , etc , playmobil would make billions !!!!!!!!!!!   ( and me bankrupt ..)

I am with you all the way Giorginetto!!!!     I think i've seen a custom darth vader klicky somewhere...

As far as the production line is concerned, to produce a space theme one need also an enthousiastic consumer body for it... playmospace was produced in a time when space exploration was still a very appealing idea...nowadays even NASA has reduce budgets for shuttle launch... People are not that enthusiastic with the notion of space travel today... :( :( :(

Well, this is a great opportunity to point out one of the most marvellous fan-pages ever and to the fact, that there has been already substantially contributions on such sets:
First, an Area51 and civilian aliens....

I've seen this before socrates!! These are great, although the area 51 is an ambiguous issue and one of the grey, if not black, issues of space/extraterrestrials/ufos etc....I like the scenario of this civilian base for aliens and first contact...much more prefered to the lab/experiement issues...

But overall a great custom building and vehicle...i like the perspective of this x-wing!!!!1

As everyone probably knows, these Star Wars customs were made by the Spanish master craftsman Malone (Javier).

I do remember seeing an army of Playmobil Stormtroopers at Yoyei's Spanish Playclicks Forum. However, I couldn't find them when I just searched. I did find an interesting topic from Burgobil ... HERE (http://www.playclicks.com/playforos/index.php?topic=6491.0)!

I also found some very nice Playmobil Star Wars customs from Playtrooper.

Thanks for these awesome pics, Richard !!! I never new such custom klickies existed. I am  a big enthusiast of sci fi and related material and i strongly believe that Playmobil is missing out from not trying something along the LEGO lines ( thourh perhaps the deal between George Lucas and LEGO was excusivity as a star wars  toy line apart from Hasbro - action figures etc etc ..) . Without a doubt Star Wars saved Lego all together , the technology and moulds Playmobil  uses means so much more can be achieved , can you just imagive  a huge playmo deathstar  ;D ;D, x wings and tie fighters  ;D ;D ;D, millenium falcon  :P , bobba fet   , R2D2  ;), 3PO, lighsabres , etc etc aawwwww i forgot to propose this for the meeting though surely playmobil has thought of it i am sure ......  An army of klicky stormtroopers....

And the other think i want to see Playmobil making ( apart from Greeks, Star Wars , Roman houses and market , new western city, bringing back nuremberg guards, pirate ships with two storey cannon decks etc etc ) is a Playmobil Porsche 911 ... They did it with the BMW Z4, Playmobil should make the iconic 911 fit the klickies , the shape and heritage of the 911 would be an instant success and a classic ..

Panos, the Spanish forum (Playclicks) has a great tutorial for making your own Playmobil heads, accessories, etc. It's in Spanish but Google has a really good translator (just put in the URL). Click HERE (http://www.playclicks.com/index.php/moldes)!

Not recently , Bill in my opinion  :( :( :(. The latest themes have various angry/ evil faces , something i think that contradicts the very philosophy and ethos of the playmoibl toy line and totally totally wrong in my opinion. The day i see playmobil machine guns, AK47s will be a sad day and I am afriad not very far from now. I prefer what playmobil lines were like up till the early 00s.....

I fear that the tide is changing in that regards with the new Secret Agent theme sets 4845,4846,4844,4843, & 4842, Giorginetto! You may be correct that PM may be trying to capture a more aggressive theme toy market mirrowing LEGO, Mighty Worlds, Hasbro, etc. :hmm:!

Very true! I remember reading an article years ago explaining the Playmobil Philosophy about no futuristic space aliens, dinosaurs, large planes, violent based themes, & am surprised to see each subject diminishing to the point there will be no subject considered taboo for Playmobil's original ethics!

I remember reading an article years ago explaining the Playmobil Philosophy about no futuristic space aliens, dinosaurs, large planes, violent based themes, & am surprised to see each subject diminishing to the point there will be no subject considered taboo for Playmobil's original ethics!

..and as with everything else these Playmobil ethics will eventually fade away and be replaced by completely new ones as the future market trends and customers demands set.. but this change happens with everything and its the old playmobil fans only , as me who has been buying playmobil since the 70s, that will be bitter  and no one else.. Ahhh , and the creator of it all Mr Hans Beck ...   I  would rather see  Playmobil  stop making toys all together than completely divert from its original ethos and design  and eventually change the klickies completely .. some of them are not smiling anymore !!!!!.. after all ( and thats  a personal view ) i have quite a few already and call me old fashioned , call me silly etc etc , i dont like at all the new castle designs etc so i will just post some boring comments in here and like a crumpy old man keep mentioning how great the steck and the old 70s and 80s sets have been .. but form time to time i might throw in some semi decent customs and collection pictures ....  Ole !!!!!  Steck for ever and nothing else  ... 0)

Actually wanted to put a couple more...just to prove Giorginetto's point...and the fact that i did grow up with these sets....I only hope that parents today will only stick to mainstream playmobil and pay less attention to newer taboo themes, as Bill puts it, yet, can you blame societies and everyday life changing??? and companies wanting to promote newer products based on these contemporary styles of life...?????

Nice sets Sir wolf,i think amongst the older playmoibl funs the new agents theme doesnt seem to be very popular... Angry/ evil playmo faces is very wrong and shouldnt exist imo...  :o
