Title: 3283 Space theme classic
Post by: Rasputin on January 01, 2010, 02:45:40
Hello

Well I won an old set that I have been wanting some certain Klickies from ( my list of sought after sets in now down to 998  ;)) This set was part of the not very popular Space theme. I figured it might be interesting to some as to what this set looks like new. There is not a lot of info in DB so I will try to get the plans scanned soon. I have no scanner  :( sorry it is all there  :-[ Heather has been busy  :wow:

The 2 bags and one plant base make this set seem simple and small

Once opened there are quite a few small parts and some rather unique color. The mini-catalog that comes in it was nice to look at and was full of other great classic sets

Building the set was quick and easy and took less than 5 minutes

Now the Klickies I was after. The little black Martians are why I bought this set. I have never had any and I really am glad I got them. They have the great cloak and hood that could be used in so many different themes. I do not know why Playmobil does not use it more often. The simple yellow eyes really stand out against his blackness.

This is now one of my favorite fantasy Klickies, or until I get another classic set at least  ;D You get two of them in this set

The Adult Klicky is a yellow alien that the kids like to call the Boss. It has unusual green gray eyes and has a definite spacey appearance

Over all it is really a silly set with the Plant prison and all, but the fact you get the two little black Klickies makes it worth it. I do not think they come in any other sets and they rarely show up separately on auction sites.

Edit: those are not green eyes they are gray  8} I must have had a booger in my own eye

I really like that set- for the little black space-gnomes, of course.  Though now that I look at it in its entirety again, what a strange set. What exactly is going on there, anyway?

That seems quite clear to me ...
a yellow native lifeform made a false move and was snapped up by a Venus-mantrap. These two black gnomes are muttering to each other something like
"serves him right for perstering us ... he knows we were only figurants in 'the empire strikes back' and that we didn't meet Duck Dodgers" ...

But that's my own interpretation

Thanks for the review, Ras, and congratulations on your latest buy.  This was a very short lived theme, popular with the retailers apparently when it was announced, but not with the customers.

Great review. I have the whole Aliens series and they are great sets. 3280 - Alien Control Center (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3280) is a great set too, with some nice interesting parts. The headsets in that one are something that haven't been used all that often. They just made a reappearance in the Sea Exploration larger sub set, but that's the first time in more than 5 years.

 Hi Bogro

That is about what my kids played out also except the yellow Klicky was the boss full of greed and tried to steel the diamond. So his false move was to grab the jewel, triggering the trap . Then all the Star Wars muttering

I love this set, it is a one of a kind that just looks really good. The dwarfs are amazing but so is the rest of the set, I just love it. I'll hope that I can localise it one day.

I like the odd contents of this set for sure, Ras! The unique parts of this whole series was truly a step outside of the box (no pun intended) for Playmobil @ that time!

Iv'e never seen this set before - was it a US exclusive?

I thought the little Black Men were the bosses, and the big leaf plant thing was birthing the big alien, fully formed, to act as their warrior (and cannon fodder).

It's a weird set, and maybe a bit more explanation from Playmo as to what it was supposed to be would have helped it sell. I have parts from this set, but certainly couldn't assemble a full one as nice as Ras's.

Its title was Alien Prison Pod, & it wasn't a US exclusive that I know of! It was introduced in 2001 through 2002 along with other alien martian sets. It was like the present ghost pirate series, & wasn't available very long due to unpopularity :(! These sets were very unusual for Playmobil to produce in my opinion, & seemed to be a test market to see how they would be accepted, which they weren't, & production was prematurely discontinued :hmm:.

I loved these sets, Bill.

And, was very sorry to see them discontinued.

I think that there were six sets in all.

And, since a picture is worth ... I've attached an image of each ... :)

Hi

And do not forget the versatility of the large space station set. I was able in the last year to pick up maybe 3 more for under $30/each  <:> It is still to this day an unpopular set. We have a fun time creating strange things out of the parts.

This is one thing we made and it is hanging in the office. The picture is not upside down

Hi Giorginetto

That looks very much like an old Target exclusive. One more for the list and now I am back up to 999  That fire wizard is a good looking Klicky also .

How did we miss this great set, Ras? I don't ever remember seeing it at Target. Do you?

I already had a couple of sets of the Fire Wizard (3932), so I may have overlooked it. But, I just don't remember it.

Maybe some day it'll just show up at the Tuesday Morning store ...  ;D

HI Richard

Yes I do not remember it at all . I thought it might have been before I started collecting. The only reason I asumed it was a Target set is the box graphics used. The Playmobil with the word Knights in purple. It was listed as a 2004 set. I doubt a 6 year old set could show up in T.M.  :'(  I really like it and would have bought a bunch.

Heather says (in her wonderful PlaymoDB (http://www.playmodb.org/)) that the part number for the dwarf's pointed hood (only the hood, not the cloak) is 30 22 5050. And, the part number for the cloak is 30 22 5070.

Ras, have you tried to order the parts from DS?

Hi Richard

Monday morning I will let you know  I have so many parts I am unaware of or over look due to collecting so many themes. I found one of these cloaks in my immortal klicky parties in blue yesterday. If 04 was the production year didn't an old saying go that they make parts up to 10  years after  ???

I think it's nearer seven years now, Ras, but that's still in time.

Although space isn't my theme, browsing through this search result on playmoDB has turned up some useful bits for non=space purposes for my next DS order.  Many thanks Ras and Richard for extending the range of the topic.  :wow:

Ras, there were many of these cloaks (in a variety of colours) for the little dwarfs and gnomes.
I've attached a picture of one with the blue cloak that you may already have.

Gordon, maybe Playmobil intentionally tried to connect many of their themes through a common thread of "fairy tale and fantasy" ... ???

As far as I know 5741 Golden Sword Guardian is that rarity of rarities - an Australian exclusive. I got a couple in a trade with Janette a few years ago. Playmobil's distributor there fell apart and after the one or two years they went back to being very difficult to get in Oz. You see them very rarely on eBay. It's all parts that have been available elsewhere, but it was a nice combo.

You are absolutely correct, Coyote ...  :elf:

The elves were a Customizobil entry at Bart's one and only "annual" Collectobil Playmobil customizing contest. I think that they may have been done by Andi ("Customizer"), but I could be wrong.
