what do the casting #'s have to do with?
« on: November 15, 2007, 00:44:40 »
I have always wanted to know if the numbers in the molds have anything to do with anything . Just a quick example on the table 30 46 1950 http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-46-1950 on the inside next to the playmo logo it has the #'s 316910 A  along with the ABS recycle logo and then 2 lettered compasses ?
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

As far as I can figure, it's the mold number.  Parts have different numbers for different colours and printing, but that number you're looking at had to be part of the mold to get there, and I've found the same number molded into different colours of the same shape of part.  I do keep track of any mold numbers I find on parts I own, but I only have a couple dozen numbers so I didn't make them searchable.  Their only use, as far as I can see, is to confirm that a part with the same mold number as any given part will indeed fit into another as the original did.  I don't know what the lettered compasses mean!  I will make a note of the mold number you found, with thanks.

Super!  It all helps.  (Not to mention you've brought to my attention that there are two different versions of 4383 that I have to incorporate.)

Cheers, Heather

I have always wanted to know if the numbers in the molds have anything to do with anything .

If you ever come to break at night into the playmobil facilities in Dietenhofen, the mould numbers might come handy to find the shelves as fast as possible...
...those with the park fence moulds and other valuable items in their mould storage system...  ;D

I several times tried to break the code between DS-number and mould number, but I completely failed so far.  :-\
