Thanks Playmo friends! Gordon, the steel helmet often makes me think of those air raid wardens...I grew up feeding on those comics

I recognize the W but never thought the helmets were painted white cos those comic books were in black n white....I don't know why these serious pictorial story books were also called "comics" ::)

Hodges in Dad's Army was a Chief Warden and so his helmet was white with a black W.  Wardens had a black helmet with a white W.
