Title: Collaborative photo story - some thoughts
Post by: Skywalker on April 11, 2011, 12:08:01
Heyho,

when i read the modern war thread with all the great pics ( Bill you made me laugh a lot ! ) i had this idea for another collaborative story. of course this can just be started when the thread starters of the modern war agree to start a new story

i just had the rough idea of a endless story where anybody can participate. we could all vote for a "main character" maybe most of you have / or would like to use. + our avatar playmos as side actors + anything you like of course. every new part of the story starts with the main character walking in from the left of the pic - then the story takes place - after that the main character walks out of the pic to the right.  the next part can be done by whoever has an idea to develop the story.again the main character comes in from the left / story / walks out to the right. the basic story could be "mrX ? and the search for the great y ?"  or something like that.

i hope i explained my idea ok.

what do you think ?

I like it! The other collaborative story was so much fun but seems to have died. Even if we go ahead and start on this one, it doesn't mean we can't take up the modern war again if we feel like it. I think it would be great to get our creative juices flowing again!

May I suggest an explorer type klicky, who maybe could travel through time so as to be able to fit in any theme?

...great...a time travel could solve the problem of finding one klicky. time travel to the knights - you can take a knight. maybe we should just say the klickys has black hair and is male for example...

A time traveller of the era of late 1800s- early 1900s so that he /she fits well with most themes . Shoudl be a historian professor perhaps with sound education so that knows about the time lines he/she visits ... JUst a thought .... ;)

That's true.... I was thinking more along the lines of a klicky from a jungle theme or something, but you're right, we could just pick a hair style (maybe a hat-hair style and a coordinating non-hat style) and pick a face printing, and we can dress the character however we wish. This is going to be fun! (http://www.mazeguy.net/happy/jump.gif)

Isn't it supposed to be a wacky free-for-all story? So I would leave it absolutely free. That way the next person has to come up with a good story to tie in his photo(s) with the previous chapter of the story.

Well, we should have one common character that runs through the stories, but maybe we shouldn't fill in too many details about him at the beginning. The details can be filled in as we go.

Yes, some great ideas! The last modern war theme was too limited, & died mostly because not everyone had enough similar collections to battle each other, but Skywalker's idea solves this issue quite nicely! Well thought out Skywalker, & bb! :high5:

Yes, I kept running into dead ends because of not having clowns, not having construction sets, etc. With this we will all be able to participate freely!

bb BB : i was reading the great threat and could not do anything because i do not have enough funky animals / clowns / city life etc...

maybe this is enough as a guideline: :blackhair:

Yes, you have made a very important point about collection limits Skywalker. I was only playing when I did the first photo story threat to bb about the BBQ'ed monkey,....& it took off totally by surprise! Now that we have seen what limitations there were & the remedies you have described to correct them, I feel many more members will participate with awesome ideas!

Part of what was so great was that it was totally unplanned! But i think this planned one will also be loads of fun! So when do we start? ;D

Example of the ending - lets say character was in a victorian scene

then somebody else takes over like this:

Keep it free of has-tos and must-nots and the story will flow with more people participating ;).

I really like your idea Skywalker a great there one minute & gone the next time travel, too bad we couldn't use a construction 7867 port a loo as the magic transport vessel!

Why can't the klicky change his clothes? I mean how many people only have the same outfit in their wardrobes.

When we were doing the modern war it started reminding me of the camp fire game where a person starts a story and it gets passed around the fire and each person adds their own twist as it goes.

Also I would suggest that people use this as an excuse to collect every theme, it is just simpler that way ;)

This sounds like a really good idea, and would be great fun! :yup:

I mean how many people only have the same outfit in their wardrobes.

I only have like two outfits :-[ (well, I had to make room in my wardrobe for all the playmobil! ;))

great! all fantastic ideas. But I think the freer the better!
One thing to solve is who follows whose story, something must be done regarding that to avoid overlaping.
Title: Re: Collaborative photo story - some thoughts
Post by: Skywalker on April 11, 2011, 16:49:06
nonono...this is the only thing that is the main character:

:blackhair: male klicky with black hair - the rest is totaly up to you - clothes / hats etc...
Title: Re: Collaborative photo story - some thoughts
Post by: Rasputin on April 11, 2011, 16:57:34
Yes not only overlapping but taking pics and typing takes time. I found that if I was putting a story line together and did not post it ASAP someone else would post a sequence that would make what I was writing obsolete.
Title: Re: Collaborative photo story - some thoughts
Post by: Skywalker on April 11, 2011, 17:04:12
and it would be great to have side stories like: "meanwhile in the dark forest" our something like that - so people can establish a certain scenario where the main character can jump in .

here is a solution for the following problem: 2 people are working on the next part lets say after a victorian scene. the one who posts first destroys the beginning of the story that is just in the making. so here is my solution. i will do a pic of the timemachine and will post a download link. you just have to print the pic and this will allways be the start and end pic - + your character - allways the same timemachine - clean cut -  next stop "whatever"

if agreed . i will start working on the machine and the story will start when i post the machine. what do you think ?

I'm not thinking too clearly at the moment... are you saying if you're starting work on the next photostory, you go ahead and put up the time machine pic and say next stop: _____ so everyone knows to hold off until you finish?

Say, a coin from ancient Rome, or a dinosaur tooth if he visits prehistoric times

I suggest the old timer car is used for the time machine should we agree upon our main character Dr ( something ) is  a chap of the early 1900s aka victorian playmo era ....
Title: Re: Collaborative photo story - some thoughts

I think he should be extremely generic to start with. Just Mr. something and we fill in the other details slowly as it goes along, rather than one person taking over character development of ths person, it should also be collaborative, IMO. As to what era he originates, it seems it should be the modern era, or maybe from the future, since he will be time-traveling, right?
Title: Re: Collaborative photo story - some thoughts
Post by: tonguello on April 11, 2011, 20:42:41
well.... it would be fun if we don't plan TOO MUCH. We should agreed in a couple of things only. Like main caracter and the way the story is taken to be continued by the different members. That is still not clear to me yet, sorry.
the rest should be up to each one participating and ecah one's possibilities.
Title: Re: Collaborative photo story - some thoughts

As far as how to pass the story from one person to the next, I think it should just be random. If one person's story inspires you, then take it up! But maybe as you start posting your chapter, start with a post that says "next stop ____" so that others will know you have one in progress and hold off until you can finish posting it.

I was thinking about that too...... I don't know. I've noticed when we do it that way, there tend to not be a lot of comments, and it just doesn't work too well. It doesn't really bother me to have them mixed in there, personally.

I love the porta potty time machine and it would be great if everyone could download the pic of the timemachine and use that to bookend their stories. I'm sure not everyone owns a porta potty.  Although I might get one because you could really do alot of funny things with it in the story.  "oh no, natives have captured the loo!"    ;D
This story reminds me of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.  Instead of a loo, their time machine was a phone booth outside of Circle K convience store.

That's a very interesting project! I have my hands full at the moment so i have not read thoroughly and cannot plan for participating right now, but I will try to do so once things are calmed down a bit!
