18th century naval captains, French ones this time
« on: September 28, 2011, 03:46:55 »
My French ships need some updated captains too...

I originally used that specific custom torso-design (which I got from ebay) for an English captain, but I changed my mind and I now have another "design" ready for English captains.

Why not?  ??? Kneetrousers with white stockings were the dresscode for officers and nobelmen of that era, also when the pants were red...

Common sailors, privateers and pirates also had such kneetrousers, but usually they couldn't afford the (silk) stockings so they just carried shoes underneath or went barefooted...

hmmm, ok I see your point. I does look better in reality. Its just that I dont like those type of playmobil legs  :-[, even if they are historically accurate, but now that i've seen the real thing, I can also see their functionality.

I admit the Playmo-version trousers are a bit wide around the knee, in comparison with the historical dresscode-examples.
Such trousers were indeed wide (so like the Playmo-ones) in the 16th and 17th century, but got steadily narrower around the knee (buttoned up) during the 18th and early 19th century.

Low-rank common sailors/pirates often carried them unbuttoned at the knees and thus loose... The playmo-ones with the white stockings for officers are based on the "common sailor"-kneepants, which were released with the previous update of the pirates-theme.

Btw, though I'll be 40 next year ( :omg: :0 ) I still like wearing loose-fitting jeans!  ;D (at home usually low & baggy, like I'm still a youngster  :-[ )

Yes, 3940s, as the French often applied red paint to their ships.
My English ships are 5135s.
