Title: 5030 - Large Road Maintenance Set
Post by: PlayMoto on April 10, 2013, 18:01:54
Set number:5030
Set description: Großes Straßenmeisterei Set / Large road maintenance set
Theme: Bau / Construction
Release date: 2012
Value for money/assessment: Very good value for money, rated 8/10
Actual review with pics:

Finally had time to unpack my 5030 set and get some nice pictures with my wifes new camera  :P ;D
The set is well packed and the only negative point i found was the bag holding the instructions and sticker sheets. This one was folded and crackled the instructionsheet. A small piece of cardboard inside the bag would have prevented this. (just like LEGO® currently does).

The set is great and it comes complete with Unimog truck, blinking lights unit (batteries incl.), trailer with tailgate, roadroller, aircompressor trailer with airhammer, fire extinghuiser, gritter unit, snowplow with support wheels and flags.
However, there are no tools or extra's included in this set, not even a shovel or broom. This is very dissapointing for such a large set. Also missing are the blue stones for the gritter, which i believe ARE included in the original 4060 (http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Product-Show?pid=4046-A&cgid=2007). Why they weren't included in this set is truly a mystery to me.

some nice things are the supports, which slide out and to lift the truck, you need to revolve the legs out and it actually lifts the truck off it wheels and really stabelizes the truck. The grey batterybox on the left side can actually be opened up, to store some tools inside.
The unimog can be used as a regular dumptruck and gritter unit with snowplow. The gritter unit is placed inside the bed, without any clicking. It is kept in place by the 2 brackets on the frontside, which hang over the frontside of the bed.
The snowplow can be lifted by moving the entire unit with bracket up and down, over the notches you can see in the front-mount and it can turn left and right a decent way.

A lot of bags and large pieces, there is a lot of construction involved, und Heinz hätte soviel zu tun. Das war einfach zuviel für einem alleine!

First up some pics of the box, very nice and detailed pictures of the set on the box:

Parts (http://www.majhost.com/gallery/mfrankena/playmobil/5030-Review/5030_10.jpg)

In this last picture you can see clearly that the instructionsheet is folded. I found it also pretty strange that the windshield was not protected in anyway inside the box, hence making it prone to scratching and damaging by other parts.

Finally Heinz tried to get out of his bag, this wasn't very easy, but he managed to get out.

He now realised it was an almost impossible job, to build his new Unimog with trailer and accesories. He definitely would need some help to lift all the heavy parts, like the axles and hydraulic crane etc.

Fortunately help arrived soon. Bauleiter Karl, assistent Marcus, forklift specialist Paula and cranedriver Hans were on the way with tools, forklift and cranetruck. That should help speed things up!
Karl had his bauplane ready, but Heinz did not agree. "We should follow this blueprint, not your buildingplan."

Together they started the build with the help of the forklift and crane, they managed to put everything together with great comfort.

When building the snowplow, they found an ingenious system where the little support wheels would slide into their strutts and into the snowplow-mounts:

Some closeups of the gritter-unit, which has a sloped interior to feed the gritting-salt into the spreader. The spreader can be set in notches from the cab by the driver:

Construction of the trailer was also very easy with all the help, the tailgate can be used to drive the roadroller onto it or folded back to mount an arrowstick (http://www.playmobil.nl/on/demandware.store/Sites-NL-Site/nl_NL/Product-Show?pid=6227&cgid=Ds_Bau) on the back of the trailer:

Tailgate open (http://www.majhost.com/gallery/mfrankena/playmobil/5030-Review/5030_32.jpg)

Tailgate folded inside (http://www.majhost.com/gallery/mfrankena/playmobil/5030-Review/5030_33.jpg)

Roadroller on trailer (http://www.majhost.com/gallery/mfrankena/playmobil/5030-Review/5030_34.jpg)

After this step, the helpers went along for the next job. "Bye all, thanks so much!"

Finally the build was completed and Heinz could test his new truck. Moved out the supports, lift the truck and fold out the crane to remove the gritter:

...and put the small aircompressor-trailer on the back, mount the trailer and be on it's way!

What a great set of photos I love how all his friends came to help him what a great team and his name's great as well Heinz  ;D. That vehicle looks like great value and very sturdy, pity as you say that it didn't come with any tools but, nonetheless I would love a vehicle like that for taking photos of snow clearance and gritting in the snow as a seasoned gritter myself though I'd probably just use some of our girt sand and spread it out behing the vehicle to make it look authentic as though it had just been spread  ;)

That's a great looking set. We don't get snow here very often at all, but when it does come a unit like this could come in very handy.

Thank you for the review and all the photos!

Looks like you might have fun doing it too.

This is the main reason I come on the site - to see reviews (and to find out Playmobil set information and to see others' collections).  However, I seem to get drawn into the ideological discussions ...  If we had more reviews like this, it would help keep me out of trouble.

Love the review - that was great, thanks :)

With my cutbacks, I suppose that it's not on the plan... but that green klicky might be...

A nice way to do a review, informative and funny.  :)

Good thing his friends came to help since one clicky does seem to have his hands full in this rather large set. I'm kind of surprised it doesnt come with two clickies but ah well.

A great review of a great set. I have the truck in the original colors but seeing your review I think I like the changes Geobra made.

Thanks for a wonderful review

Excellent review of a great set, with lots of play value.

How much did the set cost?  The Unimog truck over here by itself was £46 alone, although it did have the git and the tools for that price.

It cost me about €44 here in NL. I have seen the orginal 4060 go by for about €50 or maybe even €60 when it was new in the shops. So this is a real bargain.

Thank you all for your lovely comments and praise, makes me truly feel good and wanting to do a review like this again.  :thanks: <:>
