ZOO / SAFARI PARK
« on: September 06, 2012, 20:06:07 »
Because I know Bonnie has been waiting with baited breath for these, here at last are the photos of my zoo/safari park diorama from Kirkbean  :)  There are quite a lot of photos so I'll post them in batches.

First a couple of views of the diorama as a whole - this display was 8' x 12' and it was difficult to photograph it all at once so these are from different angles...

From the entrance you pass the zoo shop - I forgot to take photos of this  :-[  Outside is an open area with two pools and seating. Maisie and Fred are having a short rest there while their grandchildren watch the peacocks...

Close to the entrance is the crocodile and alligator pool...

Nearby my avatar is watching the world go by while Junior enjoys an ice cream,

I loved the bronze elephant statue in Bonnie's zoo but couldn't bring myself to paint one of my elephants so used the white one as a statue instead...

A little way past the crocodiles is the play area - a very popular place -
All the toys in there are animal related...

Across the way is the pet's corner...

And the aviaries with exotic birds...

By the entrance to the safari park is the cafe with upstairs viewing area.
We hid the Bunny family in different dioramas at the exhibition for children (and adults!) to find, here is Mrs Bunny hidden under the cafe...

Next comes the entrance to the safari park, this is split up into the plains area with giraffes, zebras, antelopes, ostriches, elephants, rhino and wildebeast then another gate leads into the area with the lions (there are a couple of panthers in there too!) then yet another gate through to the monkeys, buffalo, koalas and kangaroos.

First the plains area...

An injured baby giraffe is being examined by the zoo vet...

Before the vet arrived it looked very sorry for itself...

One of the rhinos has taken a dislike to a camper van

Can I just point out that Junior set up the animals in this section...

Another of Juniors little touches... ;D

I don't have any more photos of the lions, so on into the monkey area -
lots of things to occupy the monkeys here...

One unfortunate motorist is getting a lot of attention...

]

The koalas...

Then out through the gate to the zoo area again, first building you come to is the reptile house...

In the centre of the zoo is the lake with hippos, sea lions and flamingoes.  In the middle of the lake is gorilla island...

Around the lake are animal enclosures...

meerkats...

Caymans...

Penguins and behind them, an ibex...

Tigers...

Hyenas...

and finally Pandas...

Hope you like it, I still had lots of animals I wanted to use but ran out of space so maybe I'll have to make a larger zoo next time.

It's awesome Elaine!!!   Putting the 123 ark in the play area was a brilliant idea! I may use that, if it's ok. The bird exhibit turned out great, and the monkey play area with the swing sets was just perfect. I think my favorite thing was your reptile house! What a smart use for that animal clinic building! Very well done. And the whole safari park was set up very well, with the animals straying across the road, and the rhino charging the vehicle. They will do that, they feel their territory is threatened by large moving objects! Thanks so much for all the pics elaine, so nice to see a zoo dio!

In the end, we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught.

Wow!!  Alot to see in this amazing setup.  As bonnie pointed out, the 123 animals and ark make a great kids area.  Love the gorilla island and the monkeys assaulting the car.   :)9

Thank you Bonnie and el jefe
When I first saw the 123 ark I had it in mind for a play area.

What I didn't say was that the entire diorama was set up late on Friday night.
Up until Friday afternoon I had no idea where to start  :-[
So I painted a lake in the centre, then a road for cars to go around the park and it just evolved from there.
Luckly Junior was on hand to put the animals in place - I couldn't reach the middle of the diorama but he was able to climb up and balance between the animal enclosures so a big thank you to him.  :)

A great set up, with many clickies seemingly having a good time. (exept for the ones driving a car or van into the safari park.  ;) )

Wonderful zoo with some really clever ideas. I like the ark as a play area, it reminds me of a similar area at the Funpark in Zirndorf. I do wonder about having small children playing right next to the alligators though.  :hmm: Really like the overall look of it, I would guess it was pretty popular with the kids.
