Title: New Products Catalog at Klickywelt
Post by: Tiermann on January 24, 2024, 01:56:28
The German new products catalog is in a post at Klickywelt with a no sharing notice.
If you are a member you can see it at https://klickywelt.de/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=79879
It includes some items for later in the year not seen elsewhere yet. New Australian animal molds as part of a Wiltopia theme release, which is great. New hospital, new modern house, more Novelmore blue vs red with updated heraldry,  assorted random sets, Figures 26 first look. No 50th anniversary nostalgia sets as some had been hoping.

Thanks for the heads up!

There's a few Halloween-type sets that look pretty cool, including a steck ruin (the Ayuma one from last year, but the figures look good)

Nothing to see here... just a German toy company with low visibility and shrinking market share whose German fans want to maintain the status quo 😆

Gee, and people are saddened that playmobil might go bankrupt while kllickywelt guards their precious pictures of a company set that isn’t theirs to begin with

Reminds me of Nemo “mine, mine, mine, mine”

Or Lord of the Rings , while sitting rotting away in a cave they repeat

What's the problem? Forgot your password? Why don't you just reset it and look at the pictures instead of complaining here about their policy? They'll have their reasons.

Everybody can easily set up an account at KW if they are interested to see the new catalogue.

Being able to show catalogue pages before publication like this is a concession won from Geobra in exchange for undertaking to keep the pictures confidential.

And yet they wonder why they are laying off workers and people who work there complain  ?

This entitled attitude is prevalent throughout Geobra ,

Here’s a novel idea, how about Geobra just worry about marketing their toys so they sell to as many customers as possible and support their grass roots advertisers, aka collectors.

This false and delusional idea that its the best toy on the planet is coming from their own echo chamber

They are loosing market shares. They had the initial boost when many brick and mortar shops closed up which equated to 100% retail profit retention . But now people will not be impulse buying from store shelf exposure . On Amazon when you search “Playmobil” there are almost as many LEGO ads. When you search “LEGO” guess what…. You get LEGO ads so your 100% exposed to LEGO

Ya me complaining is the problem

I registered at KW this morning, thank you StJohn.

What is puzzling to those of us in the US is why PM feels the need to keep something secret when their marketing opportunities here continue to shrink. The largest US toy store chain carrying PM went bankrupt and closed in 2017. The small "Mom and Pop" toy stores still in existence aren't carrying PM anymore. The two largest US retail chains, Wal-Mart and Target, don't carry PM anymore. There are almost no opportunities for children or parents to "stumble upon" or discover the merchandise by happenstance -- as I and my children did in the mid 2000s via a small local toy store, when I first became aware of the brand. Yes, PM has its web site... but who knows it exists if you don't even know what the brand is in the first place?

It's not as though the US market is dead or not worth investing in. My forays on US Ebay have shown there is a real appetite for PM, and not just for parts -- I am facing tough competition on NISB sets, so the money and fanbase is there. Amazon (despite the ever-present Lego ads in PM searches) is also showing a good appetite for PM, as evidenced by the healthy "# of sets bought in last month" figure shown in each listing.

I understand PM reflects German culture (with all the attendant requirements for safety, security, privacy, etc.), but at some point they have to realize they need to exploit every marketing advantage they can. If they can release something to a fan site, they can release it to the world -- and should do so.

I have no idea why people think that messing up search results is a good thing.  If I search for playmobil, that is what I want (or anything else). When the site gives me 3467435 results, but only 3 on the first two pages are actually what I searched for... well. Sorry. To Tartarus with it.

I understand PM reflects German culture (with all the attendant requirements for safety, security, privacy, etc.), but at some point they have to realize they need to exploit every marketing advantage they can.

Ya me complaining is the problem

Feel free to complain about Geobra to your heart's desire, Rasputin. I enjoy it too. :D

I object to your mocking Klickywelt – that is what my possessive pronoun their refers to:

(...) complaining here about their policy? (...)

which I think is unfair. As GrahamB already said, both Geobra and fellow Klickywelt members (who bring in the paper copy of the fresh catalogue) don't want the images to circulate, so Klickywelt moderators proceed as they do, by putting them behind a log-in and adding their watermark. An acceptable solution, I think.

Some nice new sets there, like that they're doing a character set for Asterix even if it doesn't include Graindemais. The witch riding a broom with handlebars is interesting and I must have seen that steck ruin before because the tree accessory and gargoyles are familiar and should be useful.

It is true! The links for the sets are already reserved on the website of Playmobil. Normally they will be released later this year. Rumours are also getting louder about a certain train… but so far those are just rumours.

I cannot answer this either, but it is no doubt something to do with news of new products being embargoed until a given release date. This is common practice with press releases, etc. and is presumably done for marketing or other commercial reasons. If I have understood correctly, Geobra launches many new products at the Nürnberg Toy Fair each January - starting on 30th January this year- and this is the 'Big reveal' event. We (the collecting community) should be grateful that Geobra allows klickywelt to give us a preview. Having been slapped on the collective wrists by summary termination of the PCC, we should have learnt that Geobra are likely to be very intolerant of breaches of etiquette (e.g. around embargoes), however annoying such exercise of their power may seem. (I am only speculating that the PCC was ended because of breaches of ettiquette by some members, by the way, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn this was a major factor).

The reason why Klickywelt members can see the catalogue of new releases early is because they are a sizeable numbe of collectors each of whom has a sizeable collection, i.e. they are a major market element, even within the context of the German market.

The reason why Playmobil don't want the pictures of the 2024 releases shared is because the annual German toy fair at Nurmeberg occurs round about this time of the year (30th Jan to 3rd Feb) and they don't want pictures released before the wholesalers and retailers have seen what's coming out.

So not "entitlement" on Playmobil's part (and in fact they hold the title to the pictures), but keeping your customers of all sorts on your side.

“We should be grateful”
“Having been slapped”
“Don’t want pictures released”
“They hold title”

 :P

Damn it , I should be grateful that Geobra allows little ol me to buy playmobil in the first place

I wouldn’t want to get slapped…..again

It’s downright amazing ol master Geobra even lets me take photographs of “their” toy.

If only I gave Geobra more money, perhaps I’d get the chance to see a bit more. Pay to play/see

Please master, don’t slap little ol me again , I’ll behave , please let me have a crumb , I’ll pick the cotton faster for your factory  O0

What is interesting is there is no US Toy Fair this year due to it being relocated from NY to New Orleans in 2025... meaning PM will not be exhibiting in front of US retailers at all this year... which won't help with the visibility or market penetration issue. You would think Lego would have the same issue except they market like pros here, constantly update their US web site with new products and support their customer base via an extremely active collectors club.

I mean, to be honest it strikes as completely bizarre that you would pre-release the catalogue to collectors (however much they might spend) in advance of your major marketing event to retailers, especially when you're giving it to them a week before said event. I'm obviously happy to see them, but equally I could wait until the launch to retailers. It's just a courtesy thing really, I imagine it would seem weird as a retailer going to see a product 'launch' and it was plastered all over Facebook the week before.
Title: Re: New Products Catalog at Klickywelt

Wasn’t there internal Geobra leaks happening years ago. The staff has to put all the graphics together, then catalogs do have to go to print shops, the design department had been working on the sets for some time.

You’d think there must be a collector or two working there who would be willing to sneak a few pictures.

Governments have a hard enough time keeping top-secrets secret for long , how would a simple toy company pull that off

There possible could be LEGO spies working at Geobra

I finally got a look at the super top secret PM images and all I can say is what a number of KW members are saying, Ich bin enttäuscht. The Halloween ruin looks OK until you realize it is a poor man's version of 3839, the Wizard's Workshop... the trend for "appearing green" continues with the addition of solar panels to a new see-through boat, although in real life no boat could be powered by them... there are some fun new elements here and there, but honestly most seems recycled from prior years. The overall effect is confusion... if you were a retailer, what would you order? It all seems to be too much and unfocused.

I do like the realistic color coordinated staff member Geobra decided to listen to. Lots of normal browns, tans, etc…..

71638 horse stall
71607 recent architect college graduate  shipping container house
71507 not so tiny house , just change the random daiquiri ice garden window

71651 Dracula’s corner, I like the parts assortment

Hey Geobra, all my ideas, comments and opinions are the explicit property of my corporation . Cease and desist their use immediately!

Lol 71607 is basically the hospital build but recolored. Another of my brilliant ideas  (that I own explicitly and Geobra has no rights to use)  seeing that Geobra is a large plastic manufacturer and is on the Olestra oil fad….where is the set of

1-multiple klickies in orange, with orange paint buckets, Mona Lisa with orange paint all over it, just stop oil set.

2-Then a purple/blue haired woke social justice warrior cult set ?

I’m registered ar KW!!!
I’m not really impressed with the additions for the second half of 2024.
The hospital is a redo but with different colours. But a green MRI?????
71607 the house, I like the original pink colour better. The colour combination with the browns and the light blue kitchen and a pink fridge… it doesn’t match
71472 the advent calendar market. I was excited until I realized the market stall looks like a paper background but correct me if I’m wrong
I do like the new Australian animals: wombat, platypus and that lizard. But I’m still getting used to the faded green baseplate. I’m hoping to get just the animals.
That Halloween ruin is a weird combination. The take along haunted house 9312 had better cohesion
I do like Arwynns castle. It looks like a castle a child would play with

I really like the Dracula (Set 71582), Cupcake Unicorn (Set 71583), and Witch (Set 71584) figures. I think the witch is one of the best Specials Plus sets in a long time; I've been trying to find more of those gold wizard hatband pieces for a long time, and this should be an easy way to get several of them. Also, the somewhat new shawl in black looks great! Overall, the colours just work very nicely on this figure. :D

I'm interested to see some better pictures of the new Novelmore sets. There are some parts in new colours that look nice (especially some helms), and I'm interested to see the crystal dragon head piece and mounted knight's weapon closer. And I definitely agree with tahra that the new heraldry looks to be much improved!

The Series 26 Fi?ures have several nice parts too. My favourite ones are probably the green and purple queen, Aboriginal Australian, and the green alien. :)

I agree that the set with the ghostly ruins (Set 71651) is mostly a copy of a few older sets, but it's still nice. The figures look great.

Well, my wallet, already in a fragile state, passed out all day long when I saw those pics.... Just sayin'.
