playmobil planning a classic edition?
« on: January 25, 2009, 22:50:12 »
in some of the official playmobil sites (.de, .uk) i have found some items marked as "classic edition".  :hmm:
the sailboat is one of the examples.  :yup:
could this mean that one of recurrent ideas/suggestions made by playmofans - the re-introduction of some of the old "vintage" playmobil sets - was addopted by geobra?

Geobra has made several classic editions over the last years. One I remember is the red tow truck from 2000 and this year's classic edition is the Westernkutsche 7248.

Imagine the faces of those who have bought the "Park Fence" for over 100 euro's on Ebay should that set ever be re-released by Playmobil  ;)

On the other hand; it is a option for many for us to get those sets we always wanted to have but never were able to afford.
I for one am still hoping they will re-release the Trawler

Fat chance; I know; but one can always hope 0)

Whoops!

On the serious side, Playmobil's "Classic Edition" releases seem to be pared down versions of the original.  I have an unpleasant feeling most of the miraculously realistic sets from the past are gone forever.

In today's digital age, it's difficult to fully grasp how something can be "lost to history."

Unless we collectors as a whole can grow wealthy enough to lure PM into say re-releasing its Victorian theme as-was and paying $$ per set with a guarantee ##### sets will be bought...

On the other hand, who knows where retro fashion can go...  Cowboys are as good as gone in the USA, but seem to be popular in Germany now...
