Thank you for your encouragement Clicky Ghost. The photographs are produced with rather amateurish tools so I'm glad they're coming out OK. I probably need to invest in a lightbox.

Buongiorno PlaymoCollector! It's great to be connecting with so many international fans of Playmobil!

Steve.

Hi Steve

Welcome to Playmofriends! I am very happy that you have decided to join. I hope you will like it here.

Like you I'm quite into historical PM, in line with my broader interests. My collection is way too big – I am working on that, but it is hard going – Buying is like making love, selling is like giving birth, to parody a Babylonian saying!

Best wishes from Munich
StJohn

What is the original Babylonian saying? (BABY-lonian, just noticed that  :D)

What is the original Babylonian saying?

The saying is quoted in the remarkable Dialogue of Pessimism:

Quote
Making loans is as sweet as making love, but getting them back is like having children!

according to one online translation.

Making loans is as sweet as making love, but getting them back is like having children!

At first I thought the second part might not have been intended as negative, but I read it in context and the line immediately after clarifies the meaning:

Quote
They will take away your capital, cursing you without cease. They will make you lose the interest on the capital!

Making loans to my (adult) children has been easy, if not sweet. Getting them to accept they were loans not gifts- forget it, they've lost interest in paying back!
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)
