5598+5599 Figures 9
This series there was no figure that really stood out beforehand, like the gladiator and rocker on the previous one.
That said, the granny's white hair looked great from the start! Both boys and girls seem plagued with reeditions.
The mandatory warning:
I've been told I am sometimes harsh on my comments. Keep in mind I LOVE playmobil. Generally, it's GREAT. Without a doubt and by FAR, the GREATEST toy on the Universe. And also keep in mind that I've gotten a box of each boys and girls since the first series - meaning, despite all the "problems" I point out, they are VERY MUCH WORTH IT. We ALL know playmobil rules, so I suppose I tend to point out the problems. There are only so many ways of saying AWESOME, right?

In all the packs we opened, there were these extras:

Nice neckpieces and armor, and hats. Especially the mongolian's! :love:
However... This time there was trouble.. One of the diaper pants was missing a foot! And a frame was bent all to Tartarus - completely useless. Plus one of the docs was missing the notepad, AND one of tennis players didn't have the "bag" thing.
Would be a lot worse if I was a casual buyer. But not good. Not good at all. Dreadful.
One Zirndorf policeman had an extra helmet+pike and frame. Not complaining, but quality control (WHAT quality control?!) is completely off. I wonder how they control these. I mean, they DO, right?

Overall I must say theres some nice figures there, more for the men than the women this batch.
I already ordered the ones I want and am expecting them any minute now.

1. General

A nice soldier, in green... I suppose he will make a fine commander for our couple of green naval soldiers. Not a favorite theme... And I'm not sure I like the fitting of that sword there.. But that is easy enough to fix.

2. Ranger

A pretty klicky. He kinda looks like a scout leader or something... or someone playing geocaching.

Nothing terribly exciting. One of his sleeves has a printing, matching the one in the chest - nice.

3. Zirndorf Policeman

Gah. Not only almost a reedition of the recent Zirndorf museum policeman, but also almost the victorian one. What a lack of imagination. Couldn't he at least come in a non-fat version?

Also, keeping in mind these are SUPPOSED to be interchangeable, having ONE fat guy really defeats the purpose, does it not?
The sleeves are very very pretty, and make me want to keep them all!

Not very original in concept, but nice colors. Of course, he has THAT hair, and THAT head. Easy to fix. But WHY OH WHY?

On the plus side, the torso and legs have a pretty color :) And so does that roman neckpiece.

As everyone knows by now, I'm not a fan of face-covering-helmets. Though it is a nice color.

5. Breakdancer

He looks terrible with the diaper full. The color of the hat (and shoes) is quite unfortunate..
The torso and arms are GORGEOUS though. And of course the hood.

6. Dwarf King

Beautiful colors (well, the green and gold - mixing the metal is kinda meh), and that "pirate bun" in white. A shame to reuse the SAME legs, again.

Not that he's not a nice klicky, just a repeat - with the same problems - the belt is far too bulky, and the torso too garish, imo, for what a flying winged ninja is supposed to look like :P

A shame the reused parts - and the jacket IS kinda odd - after the mess in the legs and arms, the jacket is pristine. Could be expected if he wasn't wearing it during work, but then the sleeves would be clean too, right?

Probably the highlight of the boys - gorgeous colors.

He's one of the best "served" figures. There's a LOAD of accessories. These still vary wildly.

10. Indian Brave

Meh. An existing klicky. They couldn't even give him that gorgeous brown neckpiece.

AND the only skinny body on the Boys batch. Again, it renders the concept kinda pointless. You can't even trade the freaking arms! No, I'm not over THAT.
11. Tennis Player

Again, nothing very exciting, but at least not an existing one. The yellow hairband is really nice and I like the torso as well. Just like the previous tennis playing girl figure, he uses those modern invisible balls.

The torso would be great as medieval or pirate, but the lack of speedo parts seriously cripple the potential.

GAH. This was VERY common among the ColaCao guys/mini Airgam Boys of old... but in playmobil?! Something you would NOT expect to see.. well, you wouldn't 10 years ago :(
4. Doctor

The stethoscope is different, with the ear things connected. It makes it much easier to put on a head, but also limits the use to heads that are slotted for earrings, instead of just being "beard fit".

5. Granny

The hair is a very nice touch, the short skirt has LOADS of potential. Shame about the heels. I FREAKING NEED more of those legs without heels!
The old fashioned glasses are nice as well, though on the first look she looks like she has a mask.

The torso has beautiful printing in front, but this new idea of printing the sides because of the jackets mostly sucks. It makes the torsos need a big clean before being used as something else. Especially in the figures, it should be avoided. I'm wondering if they missed the figures concept, or if maybe I got it wrong?
The jacket is that newer version - it fully covers the torso - oh goody. As opposed to the armpits, the bottom of the torso no longer needs to be painted to match the jacket.

I don't think I had noticed this before, but the pirate in Series 4 had the same type of jacket (saw it recently when taking proper pics of that series).

The mandatory grown up in full diapers, in the girls too. Horrid. But she has a beautiful torso, and after fixing the legs, I'm sure she'll be great. Not fond of the hair either, but again, easily fixed.

The skate is VERY heavy. I hadn't noticed this before. Maybe to make the klicky stand on it better? It's not really a gorgeous design.. but we have far too many skaters - it's probably a national sport on playkingdoms!

Quite unappropriate for a kids toy, imo, but ripe with potential. Shame about the freaking ugly shoes.

The wings look great, offering very needed variety. However, they are NOT transparent as they looked (at least to us) in the pics... That was disappointing. Still, they are gorgeous.

I already got the ones I wanted from a Dutch place where they had all of them.
Went with the dwarf, the mongolian and the gladiator.
Gladiator is alright, personaly I find it disappointing that he does not come with a bronze arm guard to match the helmet. Also covered legs instead of greaves like other gladiators. I just dont really picture gladiators to wear pants so I might just make him some sort of barbarian which he seems more suited for.
The Mongolian is certainly a very nice clicky though his back equipment is a bit of a mess with the large sheathe and the quiver. Great bow though, I did not have one like that yet. And he can certainly be used in many ways with that beautifull outfit. Give him a beard and remove his weapons and he can be a wizard or noble.
The Dwarf is certainly a great clicky as well, his torso is a roman one it seems, which might allow it to be used to give a bit of a green theme to a roman officer.
A bit disappointed by the female figures though, some nice ones there but not for my themes. And I do try to get more female clickies in there since these days its only men for those themes.

Our jealousy that you find these 3 months earlier than we can is mitigated by our improved ability to cherry-pick, based on your detailed pix.

The mongolian is great... well, the gladiator too (after fixing, starting with that stupid hair+head!)
A bit disappointed by the female figures though, some nice ones there but not for my themes. And I do try to get more female clickies in there since these days its only men for those themes.
We just have to make our own ::)

thanks for your commentary and detailed photos, Tahra....makes it easier to wait for them coming out now that i can see every part..not that I need any...
i agree with you....these Fi?ures are supposed to be interchangeable....somebody there needs to be transferred to another department....his is the 9th series and the number of un-interchangeable parts are probaly more then ever....they would have discovered this when making the paper instructions and reject those torsos that cannot be fixed together....dosnt any kid bring those fat or slim figures to the stores and complain? Will they start putting big green ogres(?) in future line-ups....is it that hard to add new Fi?ures whic are interchangeable or like you said...they've forgotten after 8 rounds ::)

Thanks for the look at the new series Tahra. A few good ones there. Not as nice as the last series, but it seems to be every other one as far as getting more interesting figures. Hopefully they will release the cat mask in black one day.

The Mongolian archer is definitely the best for me out of this group. I can't wait to have those orange robes; they've the same printing as the purple ones from the Dragon Knight wizard. :)
It'd be nice to have a few of those undead heads from the ghost for customs too.

2. Ranger - original
4. Gladiator - Not being fond of the helmet, we figured like this, with just a different weapon he'd look fine in the arena or on a more... tribal setting ;D
8. Painter - Love that torso, and it was a waste to hide it under the (strangely pristine) coat. So, though not sure what his job will be yet, he makes a good looking recent klicky. Kept the arms and legs - and the paint bucket! - maybe we'll do a female painter to join the rest.
9. Mongolian Archer = :love: But we figured to do some sort of "nobleman" of him. A mongolian archer must, imo, ride. He cannot ride in skirts. Ergo, he is no archer. What he is is GORGEOUS.
11. Tennis Player - I thought that yellow thing was mostly a waste. I don't NEED more tennis players, but I liked the torso. So, new head (DUH!), new hair... Gave him a headband, and he is no longer using the invible magic balls.
And the others...
1. General, 3. Zirndorf Policeman - to be decided. Need the rest of the naval/victorian soldiers.
5. Breakdancer - thinking about that AMAZING torso + arms...
6. Dwarf King - we TRIED to fix him, but couldn't make it work. Do we really need a dwarf king, my sister asked? Nope, not really. Not now. Not a must. That torso WILL make a green officer for one of my roman groups...
7. Winged Ninja - to be decided. Not sure we have the torso, but we have everything else... several times.

2. Bride - romanish/ancient something.. Maybe one of the Hestians? I wanted that veggie crown, but the white flowers were HUGE on it, so, ended up going with a simpler style (see, how great that hair peg can be? ;) )
3. Dancer - couldn't make up our minds, so, both versions - west and ancient.

5. Granny - we have no more purple short skirts, so... no way. Anyway, I think she looks much better like this. A shame she doesn't have flat shoes. It would suit a granny way better. We made a teacher of her, with that briefcase :)

9. Catwoman - ahem. She was a bit strange. First gave up making a skinny woman around the torso+mask. Then when passing to the normal bodies, decided on a guy. But hey, maybe we'll make a female friend for him with another mask. Shame we don't have all red arms. Also wanted old style red legs, but they didn't match the rest :(
12. Samba Dancer - not likely we'd keep such. Strongly dislike the real thing. The wings SCREAMED fairy as soon as we saw them. Then my sister got there, and in spite of the lack of speedo options, she made him :) Looking great.

Thanks so much for sharing! I've been waiting to see these up close and personal! I agree with most of what you've said. The quality control is out of hand...especially on this mystery series. I thought that the torso were getting rubbed by customers in stores "feeling up" the bags. But now I'm convinced that's not the case since your figures came boxed and never felt up by the general public.
I love the granny, samba dancer, and granny. I like the Zirndorf officer too since I missed getting that special. But you're right, if you needed them for an army, being all full-figured doesn't help to add variety.
It's basically predictable at this point that we will see a skateboarder/rollerblader and fairy in every series!

I don't have the new dwarf yet...but a friend (a dwarf collector..) has...and he explicitly pointed out the new color...and that it is matching the old green of the Napoleon. He was so happy to have a new color.
I might recommend to him to see an ophthalmologist...

The quality control is out of hand...especially on this mystery series. I thought that the torso were getting rubbed by customers in stores "feeling up" the bags. But now I'm convinced that's not the case since your figures came boxed and never felt up by the general public.
Well, unfortunately, this is not a Figures problem, the issue has YEARS by now - I remember pointing it out on my review of 3274 (?) on playkingdoms... This happens all the time.
It's basically predictable at this point that we will see a skateboarder/rollerblader and fairy in every series!
My problem isn't having skateboarder/rollerblader or a fairy.. With the former is that they look like I don't know what (or can't say), with a full diaper. The fairy... ANOTHER repeat. Can't they do something original?! Can you imagine what you could come up with if you could have all the parts available? Now imagine you had the power for new colors/prints? Not to mention the possibility of new molds.
And they release that woman AGAIN?! Please.

That is NOT the point. Point is the fat guy being in the figures. Almost the same klicky. And the only fat one.
This should not be the place for reeditions. They did the same with the fat karate guy.

Maybe he doesn't have the first dwarf? From the figures, I mean - the legs are the same as this one.
Even if it was a different shade.. well.. there are at least 2 or 3 different green dwarf legs.. So...

Uhm? The one from the advent has a different shade of green, and a gold belt printed. These are the same as the first dwarf, from the figures...
