Thanks button for forums?
« on: March 29, 2014, 22:21:46 »
Maybe this has been discussed already, but what about implementing the thanks button feature of phpBB? I see a lot of cool posts that I want to show my appreciation for, but I don't want to lengthen the thread with yet another "Cool!" post. The thanks are added to the bottom of the OP according to the thanker's names.

What do people think?

Personally, I think actual replies are part of what makes this forum so friendly.

This feature normally does not lead to lesser number of posts, especially those of 'quality'  (e.g. in KW). It is just another means to leave a positive feedback.   :irish:

@geobra: Thanks a lot! :-)

I don't want fewer posts overall, I just want a way for ME to respond without typing!  :D

Using Facebook a lot,  I sometimes think a 'like' button would be nice. There are only so many ways to say: great.

On the other hand I really enjoy reading through all the comments and I appreciate it that people tell eachother what they like best. I think adding this button would make me lazy doing that!

I agree that it might hinder the discussions. It does seem much more friendly to see people responding with comments, even if they are just like "thanks for the information" or "that's a really cool design" or the like.

The feature exists because it does not hinder discussions and because it adds positive feedback where else nothing happens. It could be tried for say 3 months and be removed again if it does not work out.

It may be a feature of phpBB, but I don't think SMF have a mod for this yet.  At least I haven't managed to find one on their site...

I don't really need a thanks button, but sometimes I did want to say that I thought someone's comment was very funny. A 'like' button of sorts would be nice then, 'cause if you don't have anything else to add to the discussion, it seems a bit silly to just post a smiley.

Maybe someday  :)
