Title: Some little paper work
Post by: Little Jo on January 01, 2006, 19:40:24
Quite a while ago I already started to do some small paper-work stuff for the klickies (like others too, e.g. the little blue boxes from Socrates  ;D).  Today I extended this collection by some further items; so you can see here my current "reading collection" existing of two magazines and some Playmobil related books as well as the German Playmobil catalogues from 2005 and 2005/2006 (yes, indeed they are all visible within the picture  ;)).

Not wanting to keep these items by myself, with this I want to provide the templates exclusively to the PlaymoFriends community (for personal use only!) at the URL shown in the picture below.

Maybe they are usefull for the one or the other person for setting up some nice dioramas or photos.

p.s.: Yes, I'm also still working on the extension of the Little Blue Box collection started by Socrates, so be patient, they will come soon too.  :D

Thanks, Jochen ...

Great paper miniatures!

I also read your page on Playmobil "scale" (http://www.jr-x.de/playmobil/customizing/scale.html) ...

Since I am also a Playmobil/LGB train enthusiast, I decided long ago to just use LGB's scale of 1:22.5 for Playmobil, as well as LGB. This scale has worked very well for me, but I understand your explanation of why other scales might be more suitable for different situations.

Thanks again for all your work in creating, and sharing, your beautiful paper miniatures,
Richard

Hi Jochen...

They are soo cool... I love these little paper accessoires so much...

I did some by myself (after seeing yours...  :-[) to use them in our huge "Hand in Hand"-CityLife-Diorama at Wolfsburg 2005...

Let me see, if I can find a picture of it...  ::)

Ah, here we go... We used them as little handouts for a museum.
Most of them are empty paged, some have a middle page.

best regards,
socrates

Great work Little Jo,

That scene almost looks like the room I'm sat in now, my favorite has to be the Playmo Collector minature.

Thanks so much Little Jo. I love little paper miniatures for the klickies. One of my favorite parts of that Christmas set with the light-up tree (3931) is the miniature sheet music.

Ok, then again a successful mission: somebody could use at least the idea  ;D

Yes, in my eyes this is most times satisfying, because you only see the magazine/book in a closed position. I only made for the DIY magazine some inside pages because I wanted to use this also in an opened way.

Hm, regarding your positive feedback, I think I will make available such future pieces too. (I also found a 2004/2005 catalogue which I will add to the already provided PDF templates soon.)

A small update: I separated the catalogue templates from the PM books templates and put them into a new PDF file (so each of the files is a little bit smaller and with this download can be made more selective); the updated catalogue file with the name paper_pm-catalogues.pdf can be found on the same place as the other ones (cf. above).

You can't believe how much I missed your work the last few months (even though I'm not into the modern stuff)  :yup:

Oh, thank you very much  :-[

I hope, I can show some more new items (not only paperwork  ;D) within the next weeks.

Hi Jochen...

Maybe a stupid question, but how do you glue the pages together?
And how are you folding them so accurately?

Are you setting small cuts onto the edges?
I assume, you are simply using all-purpose glue?

best regards,
socrates

P.S.: Yes, this weekend my Playmos will get some catalogues as well... ;)

There are no stupid questions  ;D

Hm, apart from the back double-page nothing is folded at this calendar (this is only done, because back and front of the rear sheet should be printed, and additionally this makes the "base sheet" more cardboard like).

I cut the single sheets with a very sharp knife and a ruler.  For gluing the two halfs of the calendar's back I used all-purpose glue (e.g. "tesa Klebstift" or "UHU klebfix - Papierkleber", but any other glue is also fine).
For gluing the single sheets of the months together I use non-permanent glue, like the one shown in the picture (the roller). I put only a approx 1-2 millimeters broad stream non-permanent glue at the back of each month's sheet (right at the back of the grey bar at the top of the sheet). With this I can remove each month's sheet easily after the month is over without doing a new calendar, because the non-permanent glue behaves quite similiar like the well-known yellow post-its. I must admit, that this is not that easy with this roller I used, because I just want to remain a very thin stream on the back. But after 3-4 sheets it worked out fine.

I attached a "still life photo" of the calendar building on which my equipment can be seen and where the two types of glue are placed next to their "usage area". Hopefully this makes things more clear. If there are still some open questions, please don't hesitate and ask (in this case I can make some more photos on how I assemble the sheets ... hm, maybe I should add such photos to the PDF-file if the assembling isn't straight forward  ???).

P.S.: Yes, this weekend my Playmos will get some catalogues as well... ;)

And be prepared, they also can get some additional little blue boxes ... I'm nearly finished with my templates  ;D

Jochen, I was talking about the catalogues... (see thread-title...)  ;)

But I think, you already answered most of my questions anyway...

thanks,
socrates

Ups.  :-X Oh, I'm totally sorry  :-[
Yes, for sure, the little "paper work" stuff was the magazines/catalogues/books thread ... sorry, absolutely my fault (so you, see there are no stupid questions but for sure stupid answers  ;D).
I was to busy with the calendar so that this was nearly the only thing going around in my head the last time   ;)
(Maybe the confusion is already in my head, because I was thinking in three "paper work" lines: the magazines et.al. ("Some little paper work"), the calendar ("Some more paper work"), and the little blue boxes ("Again some paper work")-- unfortunately this doesn't match with the threads headline here in the board  :-[)

Ok, back to your question: I lay the pages at the folding line over the ruler and press it with my thumb against it. So I get a first accurate crease. Than I fold it as usual and "sharpen" the folding with my finger nail. Then the single double-pages are glued together back on back; the cover wraps the whole (cf. picture below). Note, that the cover is a little broader (in the case of books) so that it has a real spine (which is also folded with the help of the ruler). Because I use for magazines less inlay pages there is no need for a spine.
After everything is glued together I use a very sharp knife and the ruler to make a final cut around the whole book/magzine on the open edges (so that the result will look like more accurate).
And in the case the magazine/book should really looks like closed, I brush with my finger a little bit glue over the book's edge where normale the pages open.
