Wow, Elaine.  Thank you.  I didn't even think to Google it.  What a comprehensive description of said item. That's great!

What a boring lot we are here in the UK.  Isaac didn't have to take anything on his first day at school other than the bottle of water (clearly named!) that he has to take every day anyway.

Thanks for the link-  I've been asked what those things are, and I just say its probably some odd German tradition-  which it is!  Yay, I was right!
