Title: What is your least favorite set
Post by: Rasputin on January 05, 2013, 17:38:15
We hear how members like this and that set but for some reason there are some sets that just bug me. Even if I get them for free I am not able to find enjoyment in them. One set in particular is the old police boat 3539, 3599 or 7872. I must have a half dozen of them and I nor the kids ever seem interested in playing with them. I, if you have not noticed by our collection, really like just about all the playmobil sets but this one has got to be one of our least favorite, and why oh why did Geobra decide to re-release it as a classic edition? There are so many others that could have been better, a train or even the classic rally cars w/rubber wheels.

What are sets that are your least favorite?

Well, MY favourite being the knights theme (who would have guessed!)  I must admit I don't like any of the new siege engines that were produced.

You don't like the machine-gun-balista-catapult-thing? :o  (they're pretty horrid)

I have a problem with the religious propaganda sets... not exactly the content itself, but the rest. And of course, the rabbits are pretty... weird.

Then there are a few of the FIGURES that are plain horrid.. in execution or a general "what in Hades is THAT supposed to be".

Of the sets that I have, my least favourite is the 3136 - Police Superset (http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?set=3136)
Not that I dislike the klickies or accessories, they have been useful, but the base plate annoys me as it is just a path that goes nowhere!
Also the orange plasticine that came with it has got grubby over the years too.

I feel the same about a lot of the sets that have baseplates.  The 3134 - Flower Garden (http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?set=3134)  is another example.

Perhaps it's because I build larger dioramas that I find that I don't have use for most of them, and having added the klickies and accessories to my collection I am stuck with filling my precious storage space with the baseplates.

Some baseplates are annoying - that cop one is a good example! I like the garden one though.

Well, of course there are whole themes I'm not wild about, like ghost pirates and those weird jungle... whatevers. But I'll have to think about more specific sets that I don't like. I'm blocked from DB right now, so I can't browse.

Well, MY favourite being the knights theme (who would have guessed!)  I must admit I don't like any of the new siege engines that were produced.

I have to agree, I liked the original attack tower and some of the other classic large weapons but the newer round was quite ugly. Even though some of them were historically correct they still looked too toyish (aka fisherpricey) for the other playmobil sets.

How odd, I too have a pile of baseplates, but I seem to have way more medieval ones and they are even more useless. I also have a bunch of take-alongs that never get used.

Well, of course there are whole themes I'm not wild about, like ghost pirates and those weird jungle... whatevers.

Those stoned klickies did look quite odd. My kids love the ghost pirates so they are  keepers for us.

Not really a fan of ghost pirates, rabbit people, dragonland theme and also horrid siege equipment. Can't really name any specific set though.
Also not a fan of playmobil in carrying cases such as the treasure chest, towers with handles on top and such. Through those things you can't use it in a diorama or stories.

Would be nice if they made a trebuchet if they really want to make new siege equipment.

Anything that involves Scammels and trucks. Closer to 'home': anything that involves pink barbarians.

I've always disliked the soccer sets. They seem so limiting. I too don't like sets with big baseplates.

Hadn't thought of those... FOOTBALL sets  ;D

But worse than limiting, is the darn tumors and other problems those klickys have :(  Still didn't try to fix any...

I'm from Australia Tahra - we call it soccer here as we have Australian rules FOOTBALL (though I follow neither. Sport gives me a rash  ;D).

What do you mean about "tumors"?

Well, the thing is OUR football is player with your feet and a ball... What is australian football? Rugby? (confused  :-[ )

Tumors = the stupid thing they have on the back of the leg to "kick" - what a silly idea :(

- the take-along buildings must be the only playmobil items I actually threw out. But I must admit I might have liked them as a kid. I had a similar take-along Fisher Price house that I loved to play with. They're also a goldmine for cheap furniture  8-)

- the F?gures with the crazy faces. I don't even like the 'angry looking' clickies. It's so limiting.

P.S. Poor rabbit-people

A general dislike - stickers when a part would have been more appropriate/aesthetic

Indeed Ras and I notice that one of the new specials with the cashier has stickers under the cash register rather than shelves with food items etc - peeved me a tad.

Well, I got the two civil war generals, and although they're pretty cool in and of themselves, they have these rifles, and you can't do anything with them. They hold them by the middle by their sides as if it were a purse or something.

I also don't like the new penguins or horses or many of the new animals. I think they're making them more realistic, which to me looks silly next to a klicky, which is rather unrealistic.

And for themes, although I was very excited about both top agents and future planet coming out, they're not cool really when I saw them, and they lack smaller, affordable sets, so I don't have any.

I agree with you regarding too much realism in the new animals, but also in buildings etc. For me, the classic klicky is pure design genius - it's up there with the Egg chair, the Swan chair and anything by Eames, and I'm not exagerating when I say that. They're cult things, from a design point of view. Too much realism is taking away from the cool design. It panders to modern, vulgar tastes. It's a bit like putting a cup holder on a Swan chair, I think.  ::) But if it's what people want ...

I also agree re the top agents and future planets. They're not very cool. Maybe with the top agents they could've made up some cooler characters - I don't know, a femme fatale or something - but this mad scientist lark: bleh. Then again, many people liked it on this forum. As they used to say in the old days: there's no accounting for tastes  :P :P :P :)

the newest pony ranch and farms - those themes in the 90's and 80's rocked, but the current animal design and colors they use are just ugly to me

The current pony farm building is quite beautifull though.

I think the new animals still retain the playmobil cuteness. But yes, I wouldn't want them to be overly realistic like schleich or something, it would be weird with PM.

That's a problem they had with the 2nd sheep - they were CUTE, but not very playmolike.. These new ones seem to be more playmoadequate.

Old style sheep still look much funnier to me than the newer ones. I like the old ones more.  :)
