REVIEW OF THE NEW FAIRY-TALE CARRIAGE (4258)
Let me start be saying that the NEW Fairy-Tale Carriage is BEAUTIFUL !!!
It is also a bit of a challenge to assemble ... 8}
I had always loved the accessories, but never thought very much about the original "blue" Fairy-Tale castle itself until I saw Mi-Chi's fantastic Loire Castle built from Playmobil's SystemX!

However, this is NOT a review of the NEW pink castle nor of the original blue castle !!!
This is a review of the NEW Fairy-Tale Carriage ... :)
The art work on the box shows what the fully assembled carriage will look like when you have finished putting it together. DON'T BE MISLED BY THE PRETTY PICTURES !!! ... 8}
FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ... :eh?:
There are too many parts that can be assembled incorrectly. Unless, you are lucky enough to
have the gold side panels slip into place on the first try, they can be somewhat confusing.
(Hint: The top "peg" isn't a peg at all but a "hook" that slips around the side wall of the carriage.)
The first photo shows the parts bags ...
And the second photo shows the gold side panels correctly assembled ... :)
(Actually it shows the entire carriage assembled correctly.) ... :lol:
BTW, if you have noticed that there are bridles on the two horses in the photos that are NOT in the original set, you have good eyes and a great memory. These blue bridles were "borrowed" from the Roman Quadriga. (There are NO bridles with the Fairy-Tale Carriage.)

Now, an escort of the royal guard Special (4611) and a crowd of beclogged peasants with muskets and pitchforks etc, and you have the start of a French Revolution theme. ;D

I chose to use an outrider and a footman as this might have been typical of this period, but you can certainly put the "rider" in the "box seat."
BTW, this carriage lends itself to conversion. It could be converted by a skilled customizer into the State Coach of England. (The third picture.)

Those are the first of the new style horses to have paint detailing - in this case the saddle blankets.

BTW, the other parts that can easily be assembled incorrectly are the gold forward and rear grab rails.
The rear grab rail comes with the finials permanently fixed on each end. The forward grab rail has separate finials that are inserted into the curved white carriage brackets.

Wow, I knew the figures looked nice in the catalog but your photography makes them look even more interesting! I didn't think Playmobil would ever reuse the fairy's crown(3836) but it looks nicer in white on this bride.

I was just looking at the photos and daydreaming... But then I noticed it.
The little princess, should she not have a sort of... small... kind of crown or tiara? It can be seen on this photo:

But on your pictures I can see no tiara, Richard. Not even on the box art. ???
Maybe the Romans wanted to borrow it, in return of the bridles? ;D

I also like your story about the princess trading her tiara for horses bridles ... :)
This set did come with a tiara for the princess. However, I thought that it did not enhance her appearance at all. So, I chose not to use it. Other collectors may like it. But, I thought that it detracted from the princess's appearance.

For a time I thought the tiara was such a thing that would never sit tight, and allways fall off. Just like most of the shoulderpieces and some other hats. Every now and then I get bored of them and cease to use them. I thought this had happend to you too ;D

Thanks again for pointing out the "missing" tiara. Maybe if we all write about the things that we don't like, along with the things that we do like, Playmobil might make some changes in their future sets ... :yup:
