The advantage of the cork is that it reduces the noise of the train running.
Well yes, that's what they say it does. Point is: those engines are making so much noise on their own, I really do wonder if THAT does make a difference...  8}.

Faller play train engines are driven by battery motors. Signals could be clipped between sleepers to make an engine stop, turn or go on. These layout will be operated the old way, engines are not going to be equipped with RC technology.

Sowohl Weichenantriebe als auch...

...Wender und ...

...die richtigen Stopper können über Draht- bzw. Fadenzüge bewegt werden.

Both sets of points and STOP/TURN/GO signals can be operated by threads. As original colours don't match my expectations they recievced a new coat of paint.

All devices can be operated by wee wooden bowls and nearly invisible threads now. Layout allows trains to run and do some basic shunting moves without setting points. And as I acutally don't have a third running engine, I decided to postpone remote controlled sets of points.

Long live basic technology!  I think quite a bit of the UK system still depends on it btw.

Fun will be even greater the day I'll be able to handle this "which pearl makes which device act"-thing 8-).

Oh dear, loads of progress to be reported...

While one side's to present a station the other will feature some nature. A pond-hole's easily sawed out, some green fitted around and both bird and man are happy.

Weiter geht's - update:

Dividing the layout in two renders a tunnel necessary. A castle gate as portal at one side, a house to be passed through at the other will do that job.

Great use of the castle gate. The house option is nice too, part of a factory perhaps?
